Zurich ‘Value Your World’ feedback thread - £300 voucher to be won for feedback

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was clean and uncluttered and easy on the eye. Not sure about the slippers icon for retirement though!!
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? The tool was very easy to use with nice big radio buttons and the next button only lighting up when the tool was ready for you to move to the next question
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I did and I wish we had had a tool like this to use when I selected my level of cover through my flexible benefits programme at work
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It has. I will be doing this though my flexible benefits programme at work though
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I can't think of any, it was very flexible as you could go back and change details, there was plenty of additional info and you could even change all the details to produce a quote as if the life assured were your partner - useful as I have been wondering how much I should cover mine for and how much it would cost Hope this helps! Thank you

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very flash, rather too quick to update figures of cover required when you haven't entered all of the date. But nice to see the graphics change.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Generally ok, but it's difficult to complete some figures when you know that your partner's income/savings would impact on the protection required. I felt that it assumed that I am the main earner and savings are all mine, whereas it would be better to choose to complete the entire tool on a single or joint basis. The quote at the end does allow for this.
The Pension question really needs to clarify that it's the death benefit figure required. The figure that comes more easily to mind is the regular payment from salary which of course doesn't represent the actual cover which in some cases you only know from an annual statement.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It made me check the paperwork for my existing term assurance policy to see exactly what it covers, but although the tool suggested there is a gap I don't feel it is representative of my situation where both my husband and I have reasonable salaries, good savings and two properties.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
The option to complete it on a joint basis to enter both salaries, savings, property assets etc.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Nice and clear, concise and quick. Nice graphics.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes- ran well, questions not too in depth.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was a bit depressing!! But I do have the right level of cover which is a relief.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Nope, I'm covered fine according to them.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I think that this no-nonsense tool should be adopted for insurance websites. It was just a nicer format for inputting information. (On a laptop.)
lostinlego · 26/09/2016 09:55
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Straightforward and simple to use
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, the questions were simple and concise.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? We are buying a new house so looking at insurance, had only been thinking about cover to the value of the mortgage not other things.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Will think about increasing cover.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? More info on what critical illness cover required.
mumsbe · 26/09/2016 14:13
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
The design was simple to use and nicely set out.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
The tool was easy to use and simple to follow

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Not very useful to me as it worked out expensive.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No it was too expensive.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
More explanation abut what people actually need to cover and how they can simply leave money for their family and pay off debts.

MrsJamesFraser · 26/09/2016 14:29
  1. Very easy to navigate and amend as went through. Likes the simple design and colours were good as nice to look at without being distracting.

  2. Realky easy to use. Couldn't have been simpler and felt very logical in order as moves through the questions.

  3. I was very aware I had protection gap but probably underestimated it.

  4. Yes once I return to work filling mat leave my partner and I will be taking cover out.

  5. The suggestion of amounts requires to cover do feel quite advice like. I would presume as is an online calculator this can't constitute financial advice but possibly an explicit statement that in some circumstances advice might be appropriate (if requirements or existing provision are complex etc)

In addition I really liked the section after the quote that gave alternative quotes without and with reduced level of CI. That was really helpful and gave reference points without me having to edit tool.

KnottedAnchorChief · 26/09/2016 16:12
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I thought it was very well designed, in that it was intuitive and easy to engage with. The presentation was clean and simple, with steps that led clearly through stages without demanding too much at any level.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes the tool was easy to use and understand. The language was just right, easy to understand what was being asked and specific to the information required. No jargon or complicated finance-speak, which was good. Also I found the reassurance that I could go back at any time and add or tweak really useful.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was useful, yes. I do have cover but hadn't realised that there was potentially a gap. There are some areas that I had not fully considered and probably underestimated. The quote did seem quite high but it was a good way to flag where in the 'breakdown' I might need to reassess things a little.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
I usually struggle to focus on important things like this because it is off-putting and complex to get to grips with. This has made me want to look more closely at what cover I have.

  2. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Just having a University option was fairly limiting. I suppose the whole point is keeping things simple at this point, but if there had been other options such as supporting children in their first years after state education and/or partial further education costs, I would have chosen that.

forcedgeneric · 26/09/2016 17:21
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Simple and easy - worked well on my mobile
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, largely clear, although not having a background in finance, it would have been helpful to have pension savings explained in more detail (relied on google)
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Yes, very useful, had been thinking that as our family had recently grown we needed to consider this in more detail. We most definitely have a gap!
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
The ability to factor partner's income into the equation, more accurate costs based on region and family circumstances.

avocadosweet · 26/09/2016 18:52
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Fine - I used it in my phone with no problems.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, I liked how it explained the reasoning for things.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I knew it would as I personally have no life insurance although DH does.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes, I knew it was something I need to look at so it was a good prompt.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I can't think of any - it was simple and useful.
HungryHorace · 26/09/2016 21:01
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Really easy and straight forward to use.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, really simple to use as it guided you through it in a simple fashion.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
I was found to have a protection gap though we can't afford to pay more right now.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
I will definitely sort it when we can afford the extra outlay.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

I'd like to see a breakdown of the figure it has calculated as being required with an explanation for this.

sealight123 · 26/09/2016 21:18

1) What do you think of the design of the tool?
It was pretty slick and simple. The design was spot on.

2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
To be honest, I feel daft, but I found it easy to use but I think some of the content needed a dummies guide explanation for people like me lol
Also, I didn't like that you couldn't mark things as not be applicable to yourself. I don't pay a mortgage but pay rent and there wasn't an option for this.

3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
This tool was definitely helpful but it was also scared the life out of me.
I am in my early 20's so haven't really looked into this stuff all that much so it always makes me full of terror and dread looking at this sort of stuff

4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Inspire...fill with terror..same thing :P

5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Just some added options for choices and some more in depth explanations

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/09/2016 21:24
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? I liked the simplicity of the design.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? It was very easy, quick and straightforward.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I did have a gap that I need to clarify and sort out.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes, I'm looking into what I have and will make changes if necessary.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? None, it was simple and user friendly.
regularbutpanickingabit · 27/09/2016 09:20
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Refreshingly simple and easy to use. I liked the layout and the prompts.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, the questions were very straightforward and the process was pretty swift which also helped.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes, although I was horrified by the figures going up on the left I was then very relieved by what they translated to as a monthly sum. We do already have some cover in place but have moved house and had another baby since we set it up and need to update the details.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It's prompted me to email my DH about it and we are going to dig our heads out of the sand and get our current covers reassessed and compare with what Zurich provides. I also need to make sure we are comparing like with like. This has prompted me to make sure we have the right cover in place.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
A similar graphical representation of costs and monthly payments with and without critical illness cover and with or without decreasing term. Be good to see them side by side with a better explanation of what each means and the impact of making one choice over another.

silviuccia · 27/09/2016 14:50
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very well done. Easy and simple, nice!

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, it is clear, it is white and without to many colors that can be upsetting, and the query are easy to understand and to reply

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I think yes, I need to talk about it to my hubby :)

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes, I'm worried about the future of my kids so this tool makes me understand better how I can protect them

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

In the question is not very clear if you need to put the money that you pay for month or for year, like in the query about my existent life insurance.
And in the question of annual income it is not specification if it needs the total of the family or only mine (I don't work so it will be 0 for me), does it make sense?

miaow123 · 27/09/2016 19:12

Yes clear and simple to use.

It was easy to use but you have to make sure you have all the info you need.

It was useful, I found we were over what was quoted here!!

No didn't make me want to change anything.

Nothing really to change as quick and simple to use.

Yes. It was easy to use and there were ? to click on for explanations of terms I wasn't sure about.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Yes and yes.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes. I now have life insurance for the first time!

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None that I can think of.

JoolsSchmools · 28/09/2016 12:01
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Good. Not too flashy or gimmicky
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? very easy. Was easy to go back and amend/tweak
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? very helpful. No gaps

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was easy to use. it didn't take much thought to work it out.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

The tool was very easy to use and self explanatory. I am relatively familiar with financial terms / products.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was interesting to see how much was estimate for education/support of children and that it allowed you to choose state or private education and whether to support your child through Uni. I'm not sure how accurate this is as it would depend on the school and if it was day or boarding, but it was food for thought. I'm not sure we have a protection gap that we weren't aware of but it was a good guide to what we should be thinking of in figures. I liked the fact that you could adjust these at the end and that you could include savings and current pensions.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Possibly. I need to double check current policies.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

I was frustrated that it didn't take into account my OH income when calculating what they would need. May be asking if you are the lead earner in a household might address this. Saying that I'm aware if a partner dies, the person left behind might need the extra money to cover additional childcare costs etc.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was nice, modern and simple looking.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes it was fairly simple.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was helpful. I'm not sure if I have a protection gap but I do think I need to change my cover following this.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? None
ohlittlepea · 28/09/2016 22:27
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very quick to load and simple questions with a easy to use design. I much prefer a tool like this than something over engineered which takes forever to load.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Yes Why/Why not? It's worded simply and straightforward.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? It made me consider that I hadn't changed my life insurance since becoming a parent and that was useful! Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes although I felt this was a bit overinflated.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes I will take out a higher premium.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I would keep it simple if lots of questions are added people will not use it...its a good quick review tool I think.
takesnoprisoners · 29/09/2016 16:00
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It is simple, clean and efficient. Like the fact that it is not graphics heavy.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Very easy to use. Did not need a lot of details before a quote was produced. Some tools are impossible to complete, this was a good one.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Definitely! I need to redo the insurance bit. It was fantastic to see the various covers with prices at the end. Really helped me decide how much I want vs how much I have currently. Also made me rethink my Finance, savings contribution.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes, I am comparing quotes to see the best option for me.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

-Some sort of a help button to help me choose the figures correctly. A litte more description if I hover over a ? or something like that
-A general idea of how long this process will take
-Details like - If you have an existing insurance with someone else, can I also take one out with Zurich? Is that legal? that sort of a thing as a foot note.

Rockingaround · 29/09/2016 22:46
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
    Simple and easy to navigate

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Mostly, however I felt needed to be better prepared

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It was interesting, although a little elaborated as I used my ideal scenarios

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It certainly made me and my husband compare the other info we've been looking at

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
have the opportunity to merge two separate applications

SillyMoomin · 30/09/2016 08:47
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Simple, smart, professional. Streamlined

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes. Simple questions, only one answer (none of this usual 1 for highest 10 for lowest nonsense)

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Tool was helpful; I don't have any gaps, but it's always good to check!

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

I don't have any need according to it for any more protection but I will use it again in a year or so or when circumstances change to check it again!

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None I thought it excellent

starlight36 · 30/09/2016 09:55
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
    Smart, uncluttered screen, visually attractive

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes - the questions were clear and easy to answer. The tool was quick to use but covered all areas that I thought it should do.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
We probably do have a protection gap. I didn't put in all of the savings as some are needed for house maintenance work and we have quite a wide cost range in the quotes we have so far obtained. I will probably re-use the tool once our finances are a little clearer.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
As above, I will re-look at the tool once our finances are more certain. I do think that I will take some action.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
None come to mind. I think as an assessment tool it is perfect and I liked the fact that it didn't start recommending Zurich products as part of the process. It made the tool feel more honest and reliable.
