Zurich ‘Value Your World’ feedback thread - £300 voucher to be won for feedback

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

The tool was helpful and easy to use. Good to see how much it costs.

    Not at the moment.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Really clear and simple to use
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, it was very informative
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Helpful tool, I only have mortgage cover at the moment so it did indicate a gap
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes I will certainly look into it further
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Nothing, I thought it was really useful and well designed
Pumble · 02/10/2016 19:16

I have been trying this constantly on my iPhone and iPad and never get further than the first set of questions before an error message comes up. I will keep trying but obviously for me this is quite a negative!

longcat · 02/10/2016 19:38
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
I liked the clear graphics and easy to use design.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, the questions were clear and the 'info' button beside each question was helpful.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Not really, I already think we are overpaying on our current cover at approx £50 per month, the tool quoted me £247 a month which is ridiculous!

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It just reinforced the need to review our existing cover and try to get a better deal.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
It would be good to get a quote as a couple, taking into account both partner's salaries and circumstances. Also, the section on children going to uni assumes that parents need to cover tuition fees, but these are paid with a student loan, not by the parents?

Sammyislost · 03/10/2016 14:28
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It's good. It was slow on my iPad, but got the job done eventually.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes I followed the steps easily without problem

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It showed me how expensive these things are! I wasn't expecting to need so much cover, it really showed me where my protection gaps were.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes me and my husband are looking at what we can afford now.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Options other than mortgage. Can't really think of any others though.

ReedBunting · 03/10/2016 14:50
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Good - worked well on my mobile (once I could get in - traffic to the site crashed it the first time I tried).
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, surprisingly so. Although it wasn't clear to me that individual things could be tweaked at the end to change the result.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was very insightful, and something I will come back to in the future. Yes I had a protection gap!
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It has inspired me to take stock of things overall, and start to assess things more critically.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Clarity regards being able to fine tune at the end - would be useful to know this at the start. The assumption that parents would choose either private or state education for the whole school career, rather than a mix (eg state primary / private secondary). It would be very hard to work out how to adjust for this at the end, so this would be an improvement that I would like to see. Thank you

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Clear, minimal, easy to navigate and understand

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

It has explanations next to each question to let you know what each one means so it is very easy to understand.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
I have no any insurance at all and this tool made me think that its nice to have some protection. It doesn't look complicated either to get one and understand it.

  2. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes I will try and get my family insured.

  3. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I would like to see more detailed questionnaire because everyone's needs and circumstances are different.

Doubtfuldaphne · 04/10/2016 14:11
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very simple, quick, easy to use, well designed and nice layout

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
It was extremely easy to understand, just put the figures in and the circle on the left shows your progress

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes it was very helpful, it made me realise I needed to do something about getting life insurance.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes is certainly did. I have considered it before but never for very long. After answering those questions it's made me think this is something I really need to do.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
As I rent my home I couldn't put anything in when it asked about how much left I have to pay on my mortgage. I'd add a rent option. Apart from that, it's all great.

pinkcardi · 05/10/2016 09:43
  1. I liked the design, it was reassuringly simple and refreshingly clear
  2. Very easy to use, it was clear how far I was progressing. However the tool broke for me near the end, and so I don't think I got to the end. I wasn't told what cover could cost for my coverage amount
  1. Yes, helpful but I think too simplistic in its questioning. It didn't consider my partner's income or other nuances. I felt it would work if you had simple finances but wasn't specific enough for those with more complex arrangements or multiple assets. It didn't seem to be aimed at me as a user.
  1. No, as I found it too simplistic for my situation
  1. A more complex range of questions covering partner income and other considerations. Perhaps not for every user, but those that select the option for more detail.
CommanderShepard · 05/10/2016 11:50
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very simple - not at all intimidating and well explained

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Very easy to understand and I liked that it was a running tally as I went along

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Not really, to be honest - I knew I was properly insured as I talk to an IFA fairly regularly

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
No. I have enough. It was good to know though that I'm on the right track.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
As others have said it should probably have something about renting. Also maybe a free-text box for things that the tool doesn't cover. The education thing was also a bit blunt - I wouldn't do private before Y7, personally, but I can well see that we might do it after that.

BagelDog · 05/10/2016 11:52

Design - clear and simple to use.

Ease of use - straightforward but needed a bit more info or possibly a link to a further explanation for some bits, like how to work out how much critical illness cover is enough.

Helpful - yes. Do have a gap as I suspect everyone does between what they would ideally like to have covered, with a nice big lump sum to leave, and what I can realistically cover/afford.

Inspire action - not as such, considering my options again I guess. Did inspire a minor panic...

Changes - links to a bit more info/explanation of how to calculate a reasonable level of cover for critical illness.

WottyMcWottFace · 05/10/2016 11:57
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
    Good, simple, easy

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes but I don't feel I am educated enough about insurances to deal with my own even with the tool.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
    not really

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No, already covered

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
More information about what is needed, real examples and facts to help people decide what they need vs what they can afford

onthebubbles · 05/10/2016 11:57
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
easy and clear to manoeuvre through on a laptop 2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, simple and clear language 3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I thought it was overly simplistic as the only tool to consider changing plans, but it could be useful as a starting point for further consideration. Yes I had a gap as I would expect most do based on the questions and assumptions. 4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No 5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool? It works well as a starting point but would need to be more extensive and personalised to take further action.
MadeForThis · 05/10/2016 12:03

1 - design of the tool is simple and very easy to use.
2 - tool was easy to use. Would have preferred drop down menus for numbers i.e. No of children and income. Easy to navigate to next question when box highlights. Didn't properly understand the question would you like to leave any additional money. Feel there could have been better guidance.
3 - tool was useful and shows that I have sufficient cover in place.
4 - not necessary as covered for a higher amount already. But very reassuring to know that.
5 - improvements could be to include partners income and to look at family situation rather than just individual. University also just mentions £9000 fees. Doesn't allow for student loans etc so amount not accurate for everyone. Missing out living expenses.

Number4OnTheWay · 05/10/2016 12:04
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It was very simple and easy to use.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
The questions were straight forward, but it required having lots of information to hand that took time to figure out, so it was very time consuming. Its not a quick 5 minute job you can do while distracted by the kids. This requires sitting down and really thinking and delving into finances and records.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It was interesting and thought provoking. It did say I had a protection gap, but after talking to dh, we found it was only a gap if I were to die, not him! He has extra cover through his work.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No. After much discussion with dh, we decided we would probably be ok as he's more likely to die than I am! Maybe in the future would look at upping cover when we're older (we're both late 20's)

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
    Nothing.

Roseformeplease · 05/10/2016 12:14
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I thought it was brilliant. Really easy to use and very comprehensive.
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes. Very easy. Because you just had to fill in the blanks. It was useful
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

No gap. However, it only worked for me alone. I am married and there ought to be a function for putting in joint income and allowing you to look at that.
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No. It made me feel rather smug that we have got that sorted out already. However, it did make me think quite carefully about the amounts we need to have saved for the future.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

An option to enter figures as a couple. Also, we have separate salaries but also a business we run together. It would be useful for the tool to allow for slightly more complex financial models.

Andbabymakesthree · 05/10/2016 12:18
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was easy to use and navigate. Pleased if didn't need to give all my personal details.
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Yes generally easy to use and info boxes were interesting.
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? We have no insurance so yes we have gaps!
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It's encouraged me to talk to DP.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Ability to put expecting another child.
Currently unwaged. Would like to have been about to know about increasing cover if u got a job.
Would like to have been able to chose rented accommodation.

Chocolatron · 05/10/2016 12:26
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was very easy to use, nice and simple to look at and read. It flowed quite well. I used it on a mobile site.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? In parts it was very easy to understand. My only gripe is that I have no insurance atm and never have, so I don't know about critical illness cover, what figure to put in that box and why I cant have it if I'm getting covered for life? Probably simple answers but I'm afraid I don't know them!
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was helpful. It was quite scary to see such a huge figure though, especially as we have no mortgage and it was still huge (renters). Yes, we have no protection so obviously a big gap.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? I will look into it further. I didn't complete the quote though as I wasn't sure if it would do a credit search and it didn't seem clear if it would or not.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Maybe a box to state how much you would be supporting your child through university. I won't be funding it all but the tool seemed to think I would be
LaPharisienne · 05/10/2016 12:27
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very good
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? No
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Cheaper quote!
SouthWindsWesterly · 05/10/2016 12:39
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple, clear and exceptionally easy
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? It was very clear to understand - I would say however almost simplistic. I worry about finance so when something is this easy it makes me wonder what has been left off the calculations
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? We're lucky in that we don't have a protection gap (DH on the ball there) but I did find myself double checking things to imput
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I would like to see some bullet points of variables that I might need to consider. It's generic savings that were asked for however our money is spread out in ISA, premium bonds, investments funds. Bullet points could jog the memory.
Byrdie · 05/10/2016 12:42
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Nice looking, simple, a hood design
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes - very easy.
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
According to the toold we would have to pay 2k to protect us fully. So not too sure that's really feasible! I think the issue is that although we may earn quite a bit, we spend it all.
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It gives you a good ball park idea of what you need but it did make me think well why bother as we can't afford the money to cover ourselves anyway.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I think maybe some indication on what raises or lowers you premium and a bit more flexibility on things like school fees. It's not a 3-18 cost for all children for most people!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/10/2016 12:48

1) What do you think of the design of the tool?
Fine.

2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Perfectly easy. An explantation of the break down of the total amount would be useful.

3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes but we have a few options in mind. It didn't offer any suggestions.

4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Possibly.

5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Links to comparison websites to compare life insurance quotes. Suggestions on how and where to buy. Suggestions on amounts needed.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 05/10/2016 12:57
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Really simple, clear, well laid out. And not daunting - I didn't start it and think, "Argh, oh no, this is going to take ages, oh FORGET IT."

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, but the figures did seem VERY high. They went zooming up as soon as I added anything. Are kids really that expensive? Where do those estimates come from?

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

I have a protection void. It's awful. I don't know why I'm somehow assuming I'm blessed with immortality.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

If "alter" can mean, "JUST GET SOME NOW" then yes.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

I hate the way that NRT is lumped in with smoking. Where is the research that allows insurance companies to say that nicotine patches affect people's lives in exactly the same way as cigarettes? I'd very much like to see that research, especially as the NHS happily prescribe NRT! Is it as dangerous?

If NRT products are not as dangerous as smoking, then please edit the calculators accordingly. I don't think it's fair that a recovering, ex-smoker should be penalised for using NRT.

TheRealMrsClarkson · 05/10/2016 13:11
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Good UI. Simple
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes and possibly yes.Food for thought
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Not right now.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I dont want to have to add a 0. It shuld let you leave the field blank. The progress bar should be a bit bigger.
