Zurich ‘Value Your World’ feedback thread - £300 voucher to be won for feedback

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

1)What do you think of the design of the tool?
Great for mobile phones, easy to follow.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes and no. I liked at the end you could look at more information as to how Zurich got the figures. How much it costs to raise a child was a fantastic input. However i couldnt add how much my husband earns. Or that we may not have a mortgage to pay but that is because we rent. Also only two options for education whereas we intend to home school.

  2. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes, it would appear we do have a protection gap. Thinking about the future and how much it costs each year to bring up a child was very helpful.

  3. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
I looked up quotes and when my normal life insurance is in its renewal stage i certainly think i will be upping it.

  4. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Mortgage section to include rent option, would be helpful, as renting affects your families life to.
Income section to include other halfs income perhaps.
Education to include home education option perhaps or state/home ed' button.

I really enjoyed having a tool available to help me assess my life insurance that i currently have. Was really quite helpful. It is difficult to know what is correct for your family and this has definitely helped.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It was a nice design, easy on the eye and professional, not too in your face. I was using the tool on mobile and it adapted well to my screen size.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
It was easy to use, though I did manage to confuse it by going back and correcting my answers. (University! who pays?)

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It was helpful, It did demonstrate a protection gap, however I wasn't absolutely sure I believed it, for example it appeared to be calculating the full cost of repaying the mortgage in the cover needed for this, but if the worst happened, we have already agreed that all we would need is the money to pay off the capital immediately. We have also gone through the full cost of the children's education and factored this into the cover, and still came out about £250,000 lower than the amount this calculator thought we should be saving towards the worst.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
It was a good tool, but cover choices like these are also taken from the perspective of monthly insurance cost.

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 22/09/2016 21:28
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Clear design and easy to use.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes it was easy to input the information and at each step the amount of money to conver was clearly displayed.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Gave me some food for thought, although I have had discussions about life insurance previously when taking out a mortgage. I can't really afford to put aside money for life insurance at the moment, I don't even have a pension, but this app does emphasise that it is something I will need to consider in future.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Not right now as I'm not earning enough due to having small children and working only a few hours a week.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

It is a bit alarming which I find off putting as does anything referencing death or critical illness - that's me being irrational though! I also think it should link to advice of some sort for those of us, like me, who don't feel that life insurance is affordable at this stage of our lives (i.e. when you have young children and either not working/working reduced hours or with high childcare costs to cover).

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Great and easy to use
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes it's easy to use with straight forward questions
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Don't have any kind of protection at moment, unsure if I really would need one
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Nothing really
scarrick87 · 23/09/2016 04:36

Very simple to use
Very easy to understand
It was helpful in a way you dont think about some things but dont know how much it is putting for each thing
It didnt really inspire me to take action as I already have life insurance up to £100,000 although according to this you would need a lot more but to be honest you dont want to be leaving money for their entire life
I dont know what improvements could be made apart from asking ages of partners etc, illnesses

GardenWorm · 23/09/2016 06:25
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Basic. It doesn't look particularly special - used on phone - I'd expect more from a wealthy financial company
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes but you can't leave an answer blank you have to input 0, this is fine but it's not mentioned on the question
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It didn't tell me anything new
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It's already on my to do list but I would not do it through this tool, I would probably use a financial advisor
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Family policy???
Crocklebog · 23/09/2016 07:37
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was easy to use but the white background with white circles made them difficult to see.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

The tool was very easy to use and self explanatory.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was interesting to see how much they estimate the costs of education to be but I would have to look at the figures more closely for an accurate estimate.
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

The tool did not tell me anything that I didn't already know and it would not inspire me to take any further insurance out.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

It does not take into account a joint policy.

BigGrannyPants · 23/09/2016 10:06
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was really useful, helped me understand the true cost of helping the kids through University and what I want to leave behind

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes it was easy to understand although I'm not sure I am fully to grips with the pension aspect and probably need abbot of advice about the level of cover I need. Also for the critical illness cover it did not ask about any pre existing conditions so no idea if these would be covered.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was helpful and showed there is a massive gap!

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes, I have had the same life insurance cover for a number of years and looking at this, I don't think it's adequate.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? There should be more explanation to the cover amounts and what this actually boils down to. It should also ask about pre existing conditions and offer advice about what is and what is not covered

user1470426914 · 23/09/2016 11:03
  1. I thought the design was very good, simple and intuitive.
2.the tool was very simple and straightforward to use. It displayed very well on my iPad and I had no problems at all with it.
  1. Very helpful, I had a gap of around 300 k
  2. Yes it did, although it is a very sad thought not being there to see your children grow up
  3. None, I think it's very good
queenoftheschoolrun · 23/09/2016 11:09
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Great design, easy to use, lots of white space.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, my only query was with the critical illness question and this was answered when I clicked on the information button.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was helpful in that the cover we already have in place is probably adequate (I was worried that it wasn't) so no protection gap. It didn't ask about DH's income though so I need to have a think about that.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes and no. I think the policy we've already got may be sufficient but I do need to look into if anything happens to DH.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Needs to consider both incomes. Also I have health conditions which may or may not considerably affect the premium and this wasn't addressed at this stage.

Cambam2010 · 23/09/2016 11:58

1) What do you think of the design of the tool?
It opened up easily and was very simple to use. The layout was clear and easy to read.
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes - it was very clear.
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
I have a huge protection gap as I do not have life insurance at the moment
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It was interesting to see what value would potentially be needed to put my son through education but the tool was a little too simple for our circumstances. My son and his dad are separated so there are two of us to fund his future but I wouldn't want to work out a quote using his dad as my partner as he is not.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
The tool needs to take into account blended families and other irregular set ups.

Lulabellx1 · 23/09/2016 12:42
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Easy to use and very quick.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes. The design mad it easy to use and I liked the explanations.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes, I was happy with my quote. It was higher than I thought it would be.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It made me think a lot more about it. I wouldn't make any changes right now as I cant afford anything more.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I think it's pretty spot on.

Quills · 23/09/2016 12:47
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I really liked it. I liked the colour scheme and it was clearly laid out.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

It was very simple. Though it took a while to load in, once it was ready it was an easy process and made every calculation clear. I especially liked the running total.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

I was surprised by the figure, but it made sense. We do have a gap, and that's something DH and I will sit down and discuss in the near future now I've seen the figures laid out so clearly.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes. I followed through and got a quote (though it was quite high!) using the figures I had already input, and will be considering making an adjustment to my current policy/taking out another one.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

I would have liked to be able to add figures for childcare and DH's income.

adagio · 23/09/2016 13:55

1)What do you think of the design of the tool?
Great, really simple and easy to use, nice layout and good tone of voice

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
yes, and the help/info was informative

  2. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
yes it was helpful, and yes I have a gap - but its an expensive gap too fill! (CIC)

  3. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
yes, I need to have a proper conversation with DH about CIC now we have kids (we were never that bothered before as it was only us, and we were young)

  4. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
On the last screen it give you a quote and a couple of options for alternatives at different prices, but it wasn't obvious what those alternative were (as I said I wanted CIC on the quote and level term I imagine they were quote without CIC or for decreasing term, but it didn't say that)

wobbleinprogress · 23/09/2016 14:54
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was easy to you
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? It was fairly easy but I am confident with the whole insurance concept and the types of insurance available. I am not sure it would be as easy for someone not as familar with the jargon
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? No protection gap but I work in the field ! Helpful to see this approach being developed. It is really important to engage with people for basic life cover to get the message across that it is affordable and really important if you have children.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I think the more accessible and basic the better. I would prefer to see an independent tool looking at lots of providers so you can compare quotes. Message to other users - even if the tool has indicated a need for insurance remember TO SHOP AROUND - Zurich might not be the cheapest !
MissusDave · 23/09/2016 14:58
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was easy to follow
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, because it is step by step you can see how it arrives at the figure at the end
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was fairly helpful but we are fairly up to speed on these things.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No we already have adequate cover
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? You can only say if you have a child and the age in years - pedantic maybe but if you are pregnant what do you put, child aged 1? It would be good if this was clear, but I think this is a general insurance thing!
easterlywinds · 23/09/2016 16:05
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? I found it very easy to follow.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, I did.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was helpful to see my protection gap and made me think about the future a bit.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It did inspire me to get a quote but unfortunately its too expensive.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Nothing.
Gazelda · 23/09/2016 16:30

Loved the simple, clear design. Easy to use and quick.
Yes, easy to understand, with info buttons for extra explanation.
Yes, very useful but bloody scary when I saw the protection gap I have!
I'll absolutely be reviewing my cover, and took advantage of the option to get a quote.
It was great, can't think of any improvements. Keep it simple.

sharond101 · 23/09/2016 18:05
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple and straightforward
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? straightforward
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I was a bit alarmed at the cost but it made me think.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No too expensive
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? none
HermioneWeasley · 23/09/2016 20:09

1)What do you think of the design of the tool?
It was fine. As others have said, it might have been better defaulting to zero. Would also be good to tell people before they start of the info they might want to check out and have to hand

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, it's perfectly straightforward

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

No gap, I guess good to know that my arrangements are in line with what they think I should have

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No, I have enough cover

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Perhaps I missed it, but I didn't see the assumptions behind their recommendations - for example I don't they they asked partner's income, which I would think is relevant

Scrantonicity · 24/09/2016 00:47

1)What do you think of the design of the tool?
Easy to use, very clear. Nice and concise

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, absolutely.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Definitely. And yes, a big gap that we need to sort out

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes, was going to anyway but the size of the gap has spurred me on

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

It wasn't terribly clear about the critical illness cover and why you couldn't have a whole life policy with that included

duggerlugs · 24/09/2016 03:21
  1. Tool is simple to use. Found it very basic and a little dull in colouring though. Icons are good to represent each section. Just felt a bit basic.
  2. Yes the tool is simple to use however the help function could be improved to explain the different options more simply.
  3. The tool was a timely reminder for me to look at this part of my life after redundancy. My old employer included insurance in my working package. It also focused me on my child's future more.
  4. It's inspired me however is limited on providing a balanced representation on cost. A price comparison link would be good.
  5. Including pre existing conditions. Partner salary or other monies from places if other policies etc exist. Some worked examples of different situations to illustrate.
Purplehonesty · 24/09/2016 08:42
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was really good. Easy to understand and well laid out

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes it was really easy to use.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was helpful and thought provoking and really reassuring to know I had enough cover in place

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No I have sufficient cover with private and employer policies.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

When you have to enter a number like children or ages it would be good if it automatically brought up the number keypad like my banking tools do. Otherwise you have to change from alphabet to numbers lots of times! Just a wee thing but annoying all the same.

WowOoo · 24/09/2016 11:59
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Simple, clear and fast. Nice choice of colours that are easy to read.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Absolutely - simple language and the questions were not too complicated which can throw me a bit.

Without naming names - it's better than some other insurance companies websites as I've been looking around recently.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It didn't really tell me anything that I wasn't aware of already. But it did serve as a reminder that I need to cut back on spending even more and save more. Our protection gap is not enough to cover my loved ones for very long.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

As above - I need a new, better paid job in order to do this.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Can't think of anything that would help improve it as far as I'm concerned. I think the tech people have done a good job.
