This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Hi there,

The design is lovely - Simple, uncluttered, not too 'in your face'. Was a very pleasant user experience. Was interesting how the tool worked, specifically in the way in which it broke down the various elements of the cover that might be required. I have life insurance but hadn't seen the figures and total cover broken down in that way.

The tool was easy to use and made sense. The instruction & detail provided for each question was enough for this purpose.

I do think it was useful. I did find I had a protection gap, but is more of a 'nice to have' rather than what I would call an essential requirement, for example kids university. I already have a lump sum factored into my existing policy.

The tool has inspired me to revisit the issue, and re-look at what I currently have versus the extra cost to cover my 'nice to haves'.

I honestly don't feel any improvements are needed in terms of what I believe Zurich are trying to achieve with it. Might be useful to have obvious/easy to access FAQ's section which could go into more detail about the different types of life insurance and what needs to be considered.

Overall I was very impressed and would recommend it to anyone looking into life insurance.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Nice and easy to use - user friendly. Thought well laid out
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes - very easy. Followed a logical order in the tool.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes - we did find that we needed significantly more protection than we have currently.

  2. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
I have now reviewed our life insurance and increased our cover.

  3. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Can't think of anything - its an eye opener really as we thought we were fairly well insured but we were wrong.

rachaelsit · 05/10/2016 15:29

What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very simple and un-daunting. User friendly
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes I found it easy to use and it didn't take long to complete.
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
I have no insurance currently so I'll be exploring cover options as a result of using it because I now feel I have some good basic information to go off.
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes see above
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I think it is perfect.

HopefulHamster · 05/10/2016 15:41
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple and attractive
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? It seemed very straightforward
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I didn't realise how much I needed to cover
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? I definitely want to add more to my cover. Currently it's basically only the mortgage that is protected.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I didn't have figures to hand for death in service, but I'm not sure you could do anything about skipping that/adding in later on the tool itself. It worked great.
Teabird · 05/10/2016 15:44
  1. Simple and Easy.
  2. Very easy if you have all the information to hand.
  3. The quote was quite high. We have existing cover but it was taken out when we were 22.
  4. No.
  5. Nothing, it was easy to use and quick.
Poocatcherchampion · 05/10/2016 15:55
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Nice. Simple easy.
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes. Easy to put info in and answer the questions.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Not very helpful as it doesn't take into account my husbands salary. If I die he wouldn't need my support especially not if I paid off the mortgage with my death in service benefit.
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Nope.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Consideration of husbands salary.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Good – simple and professional.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes – intuitive to use and additional explanations at key points were helpful.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes – I have life insurance, but there were costs included in this tool that I hadn’t considered. I did find that, taking those into account, I had a protection gap.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? I plan to do some further research and some more sums!
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? As other have said, some information around inflated figures would help with visualising the costs involved.
NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/10/2016 16:22
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very easy to use- good design
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, although you didn't ask for joint income which would significantly change the results imo
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? No, as partner has much larger income and larger workplace life insurance
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It would if we had more of a joint income, for sure.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? A few more questions to get really specific. Maybe a rough monthly payment guide at the end before registering.
ShatnersBassoon · 05/10/2016 17:20
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? User-friendly, clear and uncluttered.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, very easy. No tricky questions.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes, I knew I had a protection gap and it confirmed that and displayed the size of it.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes, somewhat.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? None. It was easy to use and useful.
MrsPigling · 05/10/2016 17:36
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It has an appealing layout, the animations and graphics were engaging, but I wasn't keen on the colour scheme

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
It was easy to use. The links all worked, it was easy to find help to explain the terms. I did find the answers misleading though. It would have been helpful to have the option to include joint incomes. I got very different answers by putting in his income rather than mine. All our money is joint, so this is misleading.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
According to the tool, I have an enormous gap, he has more protection than required. In reality, I think we have a small gap.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Not really, we were already going to increase it as we're taking out a new mortgage 6x the current one for an impending house move

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Add the option for joint income / protection. Change the colour scheme. Add a button at the end that lets you start again with new income. Include critical illness cover.

Ramblings · 05/10/2016 18:01
  1. I found the design easy on the eye and clear.
  1. It was very straight forward and intuitive.
  1. The tool was useful, it showed a protection gap between my current cover and the recommended level. I felt it was reasonably accurate overall.
  1. It did make me think I should review my cover.
  1. I felt the toll was aimed at working people and liked the way you could easily amend figures to create a bespoke quote.
OutragedofLondon · 05/10/2016 19:32
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Intuitive and easy to use.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Very easy to use but some of the questions weren't clear - for example pension savings, was this meant to be total savings or annual income?

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Yes very helpful. I have a gap that I had t realised existed.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes - it's one of those things I'd never got round to before, but now I'm all too aware of the need to have insurance.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Perhaps an icon that you can click on for further explanations?

duckyisback · 05/10/2016 20:25
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very simple and easy to use.
  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why?/why not?
It was easy to use and understand. Very simple questions and layout.
  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Not particularly, I currently have no insurance in place so there is a rather large gap Hmm. I found that it was simple questions that probably could have been figured out without the tool if needed.
  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
No. it was interesting to see but unfortunately it's something I could not afford at this time.
  1. What improvements would you like o see in the tool?
None, does it's job and is very simple.
rachaelsit · 05/10/2016 20:46
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? I think it's great because it simple and gives you the option for more information at the end if you require it
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes because of its straight forward and user friendly interface
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes because I do not have cover and now I know where to start
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes I have a quote and will be comparing elsewhere for cover to purchase
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I don't think there could be any
Troika · 05/10/2016 20:52
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Very clear and easy to use
2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes. Questions were worded in a simple way without jargon. It was very user friendly.
3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was helpful to break down the different elements of cover needed. Quite a big gap based on those figures.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes we are doing a big review of our finances etc in the next couple of months anyway as we are moving house and our circumstances are changing.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None that I can think of

Troika · 05/10/2016 20:54

I suppose it may be a bit too simple for those who know a bit more about it but then again it probably isn't really aimed at them...

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/10/2016 22:24
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I liked the layout and the clear non fussiness.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, but then i work in financial services so I should!

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Because of the job I do, I am well aware of life cover etc and I had no protection gap. It was a bit simple though in that it was really only covering life cover, I'd have been interested in what it came up with in terms of things like critical illness cover etc.

  2. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No, because I am already covered and aware of what the requirements are.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

As above, I'd like to see a bit more about other types of cover and an explanation about different types of cover - though maybe if I'd gone into quotes etc that might have been covered.

Rubytuesday2980 · 06/10/2016 02:05
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Clear, simple and quick to use.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, although the questions about children could be refined - what if child is under 1? Education question could be re-worded to say 'are you planning on..' to avoid confusion for those with very young children/babies.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Made me consider the true cost of bringing up our child.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None other than that already listed above.

Fletch049 · 06/10/2016 10:55

It was very easy to use, would totally recommend it for other to use to see what is best for them. I have got life insurance but may think of improving the cover payout

Iamnotanugget · 06/10/2016 13:25
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Good idea but needs to ask some more questions.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Very easy to use, nicely laid out, very 'clean' looking.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I did have a gap. I would like to know where they got their figures from though as the insurance to replace income seemed to just be 4 x salary and I'm not sure how they got to that figure and how long it's supposed to last.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No, I am a sahp, if something happens to dh then the dc will just have to accept they've been dealt a shit hand and get themselves through university. Paying an extra £40 to cover something that is unlikely to happen would have a detrimental affect on the life they are actually living now.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? The ability to put both incomes on there more details about where figures come from.
rebeccajlsk · 06/10/2016 13:49
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
    Simple and easy to use.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, very easy. Very quick too.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It definitely proved helpful to me and made me realise a few things.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It did and I have already taken action.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None I think it is great as it is

teddygirlonce · 06/10/2016 14:10
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Easy to use and straightforward - just what we want.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes it was simple but effective.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes did have a big protection gap even with a teen and a tween. The amount they suggesed I be putting into life insurance every month was beyond my means - depressed.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Well it would if I had the means to pay that level of life insurance cover.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
None that I can think of.

NobodyKnows · 06/10/2016 18:14
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple, sleek and effective
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? The tool was very self explanatory
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? The tool was useful in that it confirmed my guesstimate to be accurate (within a £10K)
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Not really, but I would definitely use it every few years to ensure that the my existing coverage was sufficient to cover any life changes
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I think taking into account partners income would help identify any gaps
Raffles123 · 06/10/2016 19:50

It was really easy to use, felt simple and not at all stressful.

Did have to take a break to find some of the info. There is the temptation to guess some of the info, but it was also easy to take a break from and come back.

It was really useful, really made me think about what protection we would need to survive the day to day.

I'm going to review my current cover.

It would be good to save, send a copy to self and be able to compare different variations of income/ cover etc.

Chocolou · 06/10/2016 22:20
  1. Very simple and self explanatory.
  1. Yes. Very easy and straight forward.
  1. Made me realise I do have a gap. However the amount suggested was way beyond my means at the moment. I'm hoping some cover is better than nothing!
  1. No but I'd be more than happy to revaluate again if my circumstances were to change.
  1. Nothing. Was great and easy as it was.
