Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data

Sony say “The Xperia X is our latest hero handset, delivering superior features with a fresh new look, improved camera technology, a better user experience and two-day battery life. Thanks to the Xperia X’s smart capture and object tracking technology, it’s the perfect phone to capture those unmissable, unpredictable moments.”

If you’re not a tester, there’s a chance to win a £100 John Lewis voucher by posting on this thread either your best “X Moment” photo or sharing a description of your best X-Moment and whether you managed to capture it.

Sony say “an X-Moment is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” (if you tweet your photo using the #WhatsYourX hashtag - the best ones will be retweeted by the @SonyXperiaGB handle!)

Testers – please share on this thread – after the hangout briefing – your responses to the following questions.

First impressions
• Tell us about your first impressions, how have you found the set up process?
• How did you find the user interface?
• What have you done with the device so far?
• Have you taken any photos or videos?

• Have you just made calls and sent texts?
• What are you most looking forward to trying out?

Photography Challenge

Sony want to challenge people to make the most of the Xperia X’s innovative smart capture and object tracking camera technology to photograph life’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, or X Moments.

For Sony, an X Moment is ‘a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job”.

Please share the X Moment photos you have taken with the Xperia on this thread and explain what happened/ the background to the photo!

Final Review
Once you’ve had a couple of week’s testing the Xperia X and playing around with the features, they’d love to see a more in depth evaluation of the handset.

Non tester:

Missing lots of X-moments at the moment at dd2 is 6 months and my camera on my phone is all scratched from years of mishandling by dd1 (and me Hmm). So no first smile recorded Sad. Keep having to nag dh to take photos!!

~ Did your first impressions change over time?
Not really - its a great phone. The battery hasn't turned out as great as I'd like - when using media / games it drains very fast! I think 3hrs of pokemon Go would have drained it completely - after 2, we came home and charged.

~Did you like the look and feel of the device?
Yes I think its a sophisticated, classy looking phone - you can tell its premium range.
~ Was the user interface natural and simple to use?
Yes, I love android, and I loved that there wasn't too much distracting from the simplicity of that.
~ How does the Xperia X compare with previous phones you’ve had?
It is honestly a great phone, the only thing letting it down is the battery for me, that is more like 'old school' android phones before the moto G transformed the battery optimisation.
~ Did you find the device easy to make calls and send messages?
Yes very much so.
~ What were some of your favourite features of the phone?
The camera definitely, including all the fun extras like the AR features, the DC particularly adore me taking pics of them with that enabled!
~ How did you find the Xperia X’s camera?
High quality. Very good, crisp photos. We had a day out at legoland and I didn't miss my DSLR for that trip at all - I've got some photos high enough quality to go up on the wall as a result what more could I ask for?!

~ Were photos taken on the Xperia X less blurry than those taken on other devices?
yes - very much so!
~ Would you recommend the device to your friends and family?
yes - already have done! And made my nephew jelous who'd just got a new iphone!

Non-tester here :) My best “X Moment” was this photo of the sunset from the pier while on holiday in the south of Spain with my family. Only the Sony Xperia X could do this beautiful moment complete justice.

I'm a non-tester. My X moment was when we were on a walking tour of London. All of a sudden, all the cars on this busy main road stopped- and this parade of horses began! It was fantastic and very impressive and I'm so glad that I was able to capture it, because it was over almost as soon as it started.

Was so lucky I got to experience Manhattan-Henge while we were just there by chance. The sunset comes all the way down 34th street which it only does twice a year, and I managed to get a perfect X moment of it!

Non-tester. My X-moment happened yesterday out on a walk with the kids and some friends when a slow-worm crossed the path infront of us. I've never seen one before!

~ Did your first impressions change over time? Yep, mainly because my first impression was of a phone that didn't work!! It was replaced though and im now confident it wont let me down by randomly crashing.

~ Did you like the look and feel of the device? Yep its bigger than my previous phone and feels a good size in my hand
~ Was the user interface natural and simple to use? Yes very easy android and if you weren't familiar it had a good start up guide
~ How does the Xperia X compare with previous phones you’ve had? My previous phone was also an Xperia, a z3 compact which was almost 2 years old. Being completely honest the x feels like a bit of a step back. One of the best Xperia features was the waterproofing which the x doesn't have, I've never pushed the waterproofing with the z3 but it was nice to know it says safe to use in the bathroom. Not having that in the x makes me fearful that it will get damaged. Also the battery doesn't seem great, comparing it to both my previous phone and my Dh's Samsung s7 it seems to drain quickly, which isn't what I expected from a brand new phone
~ Did you find the device easy to make calls and send messages? Yes very easy, I like the SwiftKey, even if it does have some odd replacement words sometimes!

~ What were some of your favourite features of the phone? The sound for music playback is very good and I like the fingerprint unlock. Also quite like the convenience of Android pay
~ How did you find the Xperia X’s camera? Easy to use, I like the feature where you can take photos while on the lock screen quickly
~ Were photos taken on the Xperia X less blurry than those taken on other devices? Yes, I compared it with my z3 just taking some pics of moving traffic past my house and they were clear
~ Would you recommend the device to your friends and family? Sadly, probably not as I think the lack of waterproofing is a big let down
