Sony say “The Xperia X is our latest hero handset, delivering superior features with a fresh new look, improved camera technology, a better user experience and two-day battery life. Thanks to the Xperia X’s smart capture and object tracking technology, it’s the perfect phone to capture those unmissable, unpredictable moments.”

If you’re not a tester, there’s a chance to win a £100 John Lewis voucher by posting on this thread either your best “X Moment” photo or sharing a description of your best X-Moment and whether you managed to capture it.

Sony say “an X-Moment is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” (if you tweet your photo using the #WhatsYourX hashtag - the best ones will be retweeted by the @SonyXperiaGB handle!)

Testers – please share on this thread – after the hangout briefing – your responses to the following questions.

First impressions
• Tell us about your first impressions, how have you found the set up process?
• How did you find the user interface?
• What have you done with the device so far?
• Have you taken any photos or videos?

• Have you just made calls and sent texts?
• What are you most looking forward to trying out?

Photography Challenge

Sony want to challenge people to make the most of the Xperia X’s innovative smart capture and object tracking camera technology to photograph life’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, or X Moments.

For Sony, an X Moment is ‘a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job”.

Please share the X Moment photos you have taken with the Xperia on this thread and explain what happened/ the background to the photo!

Final Review
Once you’ve had a couple of week’s testing the Xperia X and playing around with the features, they’d love to see a more in depth evaluation of the handset.

~ Did your first impressions change over time?
~ Did you like the look and feel of the device?
~ Was the user interface natural and simple to use?
~ How does the Xperia X compare with previous phones you’ve had?
~ Did you find the device easy to make calls and send messages?
~ What were some of your favourite features of the phone?
~ How did you find the Xperia X’s camera?
~ Were photos taken on the Xperia X less blurry than those taken on other devices?
~ Would you recommend the device to your friends and family?

Thanks!

I've been taking loads of pictures of my wee boy, Fergus. I snapped this one of him about to chase his ball in the back garden and just love that he's so focused on the ball - usually he spots me first and starts grinning for the camera, the tart!

And I was really excited about the great self facing camera on this phone - I caught this great one of us both grinning at the end of a super day.

mmm, I am struggling with the predictive text and keyboard a week on. I was hoping it would have got easier/better, but its still doing silly replacements and jumping a lot. And has anyone else suddenly got 4 extra navigation buttons on the bottom of their keyboard?!

OoohNewShoes · 19/07/2016 19:50

I use SwiftKey Fib and haven't noticed that, I don't actually remember installing it though so maybe it comes as default but try switching your keyboard to a different one?

marsybum · 19/07/2016 20:04

Took this at the weekend at our local duckrace- it's incredibly rare to get a genuine smile from ds! I'm hoping to get a better chance to try the camera this weekend

It's so hard to chose a few photos, I'm really loving the camera!

We went camping at the weekend and the Xperia was absolutely brilliant. We'd no electricity on the pitch and the battery lasted until we got back home.

We went to a nature reserve and I got this photo of a Grayling butterfly as it settled on the grass. I was able to get close to it and take a photo very quickly and I was impressed at how clear the photo came out, you can even see the powder on it's wings.

The next photos are DS and DH cycling. It was DS's first time out on his balance bike while we were cycling too and he was so happy and pleased with himself. We were going carefully at first, you can see DH guiding him along beside some nettles but by the end he was flying along beside us without a care in the world. You can't tell from the photos but I was taking them while cycling along behind them using the quick capture button on the side which was brilliant, I just wouldn't have been able to take photos like that on my last phone and they certainly wouldn't have come out so focused when we were all moving.

ooh there isn't any option other than swift key?

OoohNewShoes · 19/07/2016 21:25

One more, this is my absolute favourite Smile

We were out in the garden, DS was playing on his bike and I was playing with the camera. DS went and picked a daisy and brought it to me saying "a flower for you mummy". It was adorable and a real X moment, I'm so happy I caught it on camera.

Fib try downloading the google keyboard from the play store. There's a load of different keyboards you can try until you find one that works but the google one is pretty good.

Fibonaccied · 19/07/2016 21:44

ooh thank you!

Fibonaccied · 19/07/2016 22:51

Ooh you star, basic Google keyboard much better for me!!

Fibonaccied · 19/07/2016 23:28

Wow so many to add, I have been tweeting almost daily and Sony have liked some! I put some colour ones on previous thread, but this one is the big one for me - genuine happiness from a boy who has come a long way these last few months. Being able to get this shot was a definite x moment, he's not had an easy time with school and friendships and things with his ASD but this is genuine happiness

It looked a lot clearer on my tweet and phone that one

Fibonaccied · 19/07/2016 23:38

Wildlife shots I've never been able to do before

Ds1 in a guitar concert, edited by the software on the Xperia

And ds2 with a jellyfish, loved the colours through the glass

I'm loving the camera and the memory on the phone! I'm constantly taking pictures now, dp and the children have commented - but I can get decent shots first time now!

my x-moment will always be watching my son when he competes at the sport he loves, fencing. There are highs and lows and I don't take any of the x-moments for granted :)

X Moment - Non-Tester....in the garden with children when a dragonfly randomly decided to land on my lip and bit me!... and stayed stuck onto my lip!!...Couldn't get it off...for a few seconds (seemed much longer!!)...Perfect X Moment sadly not captured!!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 20/07/2016 14:16

Here's a couple of random x-moments. A faulty display above the second Severn crossing. Needed to get it while DH was driving the car, it was also raining and the windscreen wipers we're going!

The 2nd photo is DD as a very little girl wearing DH's flip flops. Wanted to get a shot before she fell over Blush

Tell us about your first impressions, how have you found the set up process?
•How did you find the user interface?
The user interface is very straight forward, I am used to Android though so I reset the phone and got my retired mum to set the phone up as her own. She is used to an iPhone and hasn't had a new phone for a few years so it was completely new to her but she sailed through the set up process.
•What have you done with the device so far?
Before the google hangout I had pretty much full tested the phone using the camera a lot, social media, calls, texts, games etc.
•Have you taken any photos or videos?
Yes
•Have you just made calls and sent texts?
No have done everything
•What are you most looking forward to trying out?
I wasn't sure on the quick shot camera set up so after the google hangout was looking forward to testing that.

Now the blog post has been completed:
teamstokey.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/sony-xperia-x-mobile-phone-review.html?m=1

I really wanted to like the phone and I did but I really didn't like the camera, it wasn't as good as the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Here's an Xmoment from today - first time our new kitten didn't run and hide when I entered the room! Camera needed to be on the ball in case he did run lol. Taken with my Samsung.

My x moment happened 23 years ago when my son stood for the first time. I had no technology to capture the moment. No camera, iPad or mobile then. But I can still hear his giggle and can picture his huge smile as he pulled himself up using the sides of his cot. I had to wait another 21 years to witness my little girls firsts. X

UpOnDown · 20/07/2016 16:01

Not a tester. My X-moment was my 2 and 5 year old nephew and niece playing at the local splash pad.

Eyre89 · 20/07/2016 16:59

One of my favourite moments I caught with my Sony Xperia aqua m4. Just caught him as the wind hit him.

My #Xmoment was seeing my 3 year old's face light up with sheer joy the first time she met her baby sister. It's a memory I'll treasure forever. I'm so pleased that my #Xperia phone was up to the job to take such a great photo of this fleeting moment

non tester - I had an x moment the other day when my little girl helped me unpack the veg box delivery. There were two massive bunches of carrots - the ones with all their leaves and stalks and her face was just a picture pulling out both these bunches of carrots out of the box in amazement. Sadly I missed this X moment and didn't capture it except in my mind.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/07/2016 06:15

Non tester

My X moment would be getting a pic of my 2 DC hugging each other, smiling & both looking at the camera!
They interact with each other loads and give each other 'cuddles' but to get a decent photo of it is not easy!
Actually any photo of the 2 of them that isn't blurred (because they neverstay sstill! ) and where you can see both of their gorgeous smiley faces would be nice!

Elliepurpleflower · 21/07/2016 15:55

My X moment was my newborn smiling at a day old. It totally was wind but it was the cutest, and I didn't have my phone near me to take a photo.
