This is the feedback thread for the MNers taking part in the product test for the new Sony Xperia X handset - RRP: £459.99 SIM free from the Sony Xperia store Also via:

Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data

Sony say “The Xperia X is our latest hero handset, delivering superior features with a fresh new look, improved camera technology, a better user experience and two-day battery life. Thanks to the Xperia X’s smart capture and object tracking technology, it’s the perfect phone to capture those unmissable, unpredictable moments.”

If you’re not a tester, there’s a chance to win a £100 John Lewis voucher by posting on this thread either your best “X Moment” photo or sharing a description of your best X-Moment and whether you managed to capture it.

Sony say “an X-Moment is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” (if you tweet your photo using the #WhatsYourX hashtag - the best ones will be retweeted by the @SonyXperiaGB handle!)

Testers – please share on this thread – after the hangout briefing – your responses to the following questions.

First impressions
• Tell us about your first impressions, how have you found the set up process?
• How did you find the user interface?
• What have you done with the device so far?
• Have you taken any photos or videos?

• Have you just made calls and sent texts?
• What are you most looking forward to trying out?

Photography Challenge

Sony want to challenge people to make the most of the Xperia X’s innovative smart capture and object tracking camera technology to photograph life’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, or X Moments.

For Sony, an X Moment is ‘a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job”.

Please share the X Moment photos you have taken with the Xperia on this thread and explain what happened/ the background to the photo!

Final Review
Once you’ve had a couple of week’s testing the Xperia X and playing around with the features, they’d love to see a more in depth evaluation of the handset.

~ Did your first impressions change over time?
~ Did you like the look and feel of the device?
~ Was the user interface natural and simple to use?
~ How does the Xperia X compare with previous phones you’ve had?
~ Did you find the device easy to make calls and send messages?
~ What were some of your favourite features of the phone?
~ How did you find the Xperia X’s camera?
~ Were photos taken on the Xperia X less blurry than those taken on other devices?
~ Would you recommend the device to your friends and family?

Thanks!

My X moment - taken by someone else, was certainly when a wolf gave me a face wash. I know the wolf and he knows me; he crept up behind me when I was having my photo taken.

Non tester - my x moment was the first picture I have of my DF holding my DD1 in his arms, looking at her with such love in his eyes. It's so precious as he died when she was only 6 months old, completely unexpectedly and suddenly, and it now seems like we don't have enough photos or recorded memories of the two of them together. All the more poignant as we don't have any of him with DD2 as she was born a year after he died.

Non tester. My X moment. My baby boy playing with our dog for the first time. He never used to pay attention to the dog.

Non tester. My best ever X moment has to be watching the family on a white water rafting trip in the USA on the Yellowstone river.

My x moment would be when my daughter was born and the moment I first saw her.

Mindfulofmuddle · 25/07/2016 17:03

Non Tester. My X Moment was my first born's face when he took his first proper feed. After an EMCS, and a difficult week spent in hospital with him in an incubator under UV lights - he was so sleepy and wouldn't feed. Pumping every couple of hours day and night, and attempting to cup feed him and encourage him to bfeed as well and then that moment came. It was the middle of the night, and everyone was sleeping and he was unsettled. So I took him out of the incubator, and just tried to bfeed him again - he latched on for the first time and I sat with him crying with relief, joy and terrible sleep deprivation! When he was finished, he rested his little cheek against my chest and looked so peaceful and contented - I will have that image of looking down at him in my mind, always.

Non-tester. My X moment was my DD(6) screaming her little lungs out to urge Mo Farah round the track on Saturday at the London Anniversary Games. Come on Mo!

Intotheclouds · 25/07/2016 17:27

Non tester.
This is my X moment. The moment my oldest son met his new born baby brother! I would to know what was going through his head whilst staring at his little brother Smile

A couple of days ago my split second was watching my 2 sons (5 & 9) lying together watching a film. I felt blessed that we were all healthy and content and it sounds corny but I felt one of the happiest ever!

Givemecoffeeplease · 25/07/2016 19:00

My X Moment - my youngest DS has just learned to crawl and the excitement on his face when he reaches a beloved toy is fabulous to see. He is so pleased with himself and the delight is evident. Gorgeous!

Iamaslummymummy · 25/07/2016 19:06

My x moment was watching my autistic son at his leavers service from primary school getting up at the lecturn and speaking in front of everyone

kavera · 25/07/2016 19:44

Well my x moment and the one I regret a lot, was and still is that I didn't take my first child (and only for now) straight away after he was born. To my defence I've lost a lot of blood and been very tired after long and intensive labour... But if I could return the time, would take him no matter what, my operation could have waited... Will improve with second child Halo

gazzalw · 25/07/2016 20:58

Didn't quite catch it but DW (who never runs) playing rounders with the DCs and their cousins. Boy did she move at the speed of light!

OohMrDarcy · 25/07/2016 21:33

A couple of my many, many X moment photos - taken today. I took the DC to Legoland today - on my own, and for the first time. I didn't have time to be faffing around with photos as I was the only adult there so it was a relief and nice surprise to see how quick and easy the photo quick capture was - The castle photo here was taken whilst the screen was still locked - I just looked up, thought the scene was lovely and snapped it!

My X Moment was when we went to Iceland, my husband wanted to see the northern lights before he turned 30. We arrive the day before and that evening went in search of the northern lights but nothing ... Until 11.59pm and the sky came alive! Just in time to see in his 30th! We snapped a picture but it was nothing compared to the spectacular sky dancing above us! A memory of a lifetime!

My X Moment was when my partner tried to jump into an inflatable ring on a lazy river but somehow flipped himself over and backwards and right round. It doesn't sound funny when I write it but it was HILARIOUS at the time!

Was at West Midlands Safari Park two weekends ago. There were some lovely picture moments of the animals with beautiful backdrops but sadly, my phone's camera is not up to scratch. I tried using OH's S5 but struggled to get the focus right from a distance. The X Moment would have been when the camel leaned his head into our car and came face to face with me, oh how I wish I had quick access to a good camera then, would have made a brilliant pic!

I love having my phone to capture fun moments with my kids, here's an X moment from a trip to the park at the weekend!

Non tester...

My Dad is an avid butterfly photographer, his mission in life is to get good photographs of all European butterflies. I accompanied him on a trip to Croatia recently, where he managed to get a brilliant shot of a butterfly he'd been hunting for 20 years, he was so excited. I took a photo not of the butterfly, but of my father as he took his photo with the little butterfly in the background. The excitement, a lifetime's passion, and skill, is captured in this photo, and is my x-moment.

Did your first impressions change over time? Yes and no. I still really like the phone but the battery life compared to my old phone annoys me plus I Really liked the water proof feature.
Did you like the look and feel of the device? Yes very much.
Was the user face natural and simple to use?
Yes really like it.
How does it compare to previous phone? While the camera is better, the finger print scanner is awesome and the extras are better then the z3 I had I still really liked my old phones water proofness and battery life.
Did you find it easy to make calls and messages? Yes very much so. It's a great phone.
What were some of your favourite features? Fingerprint scanner, camera and how good the speakers are for a phone. My music sounds great through my earphones when I'm jogging.
How did you find the camera? Really clear, captures the details really well, love the selfie camera to much, really really like it.
They were definitely less blurry than on another device.
Would you recommend it to family and friends? Yes I would and I already have. Everyone who I've shown the camera to has loved it and people have commented on Facebook how good my photo's look.

BeeMyBaby · 30/07/2016 19:00

X-moment, my DS's smile, surprisingly difficult to capture though as he is always moving and can only crawl but not sit so every photo is blurry Sad
