My egg also arrived smashed in a jiffy bag, bit I did try to decorate a piece myself to try out the icing.

How easy was the decorating kit to use?

  • I didn't use the stand as there wasn't a big enough piece of egg to stand in it. I didn't warm the icing after reading other reviews of it being too runny, but found the icing easy to squeeze out at room temperature.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
My son didn't get involved as it was too broken, but I think he's too young at 2 to use the kit.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes, we shared it and he loved it.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
No. The icing wasn't white enough to see the designs well, and as others have said sweet to decorate would improve it.

Q1) the kit was a bit of a pain to use. The icing pen was tricky to use for my young daughter, and as others have said the consistency of the icing meant it all started looking like Edvard Munch's the scream as wverything ran! My daughter demanded the egg was iced with iggle piggle, so I went freestyle with other icing pens!

Q2) she did enjoy the activity. We both got a bit sticky.

Q3) I wouldn't recommend the kit as I would want other things in the kit to make it more fun - ie dolly mixture or other things to stick onto the egg as well as the icing

Q4) my daughter ate the chocolate happily. I am rationing it!

Iggle piggle. Highly relevant to Easter I am sure you'll agree

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?

The decorating kit was easy to use, however felt that the icing was way too thin. We lay it flat after reading that several people had found it too thin but it still run. The icing wasn't think enough to really stand out against the egg. Both my dd(4) and ds (7) found it easy to get icing out of the tube.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

They both enjoyed it initially. My ds had far more patience but my dd rapidly lost interest when the icing ran and ruined her design. I think it would be better to have more than one colour icing. They both really enjoyed using the remainder of icing in pen to stick chocolate buttons on to cupcakes we had made earlier in the day so possibly cadburys could look into doing this size egg with just icing and a large size one with buttons and other confectionary to stick to egg

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

Both my children loved the egg as it was cadburys chocolate but neither them liked it any more or less with the addition of the icing

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

I would probably recommend this as my two generally have lots of eggs and I liked the fact that this was a bit different. I think that with an improvement to the icing this would be a fantastic products especially if a few buttons to stick onto the egg or even some suggestions of designs on the back of the Easter egg packaging. Think the packaging was appealing to children.I normally buy eggs with a mug or a cuddly toy for my nieces and nephews so this would fit my normal 'criteria' of Easter eggs.Plus if all else fails you have a Cadburys egg to eat 😀

See attached photos, unfortunately we dropped the egg before I could take a photo of the design my son did, which was quite good and he was thrilled with !!

Sorry no pic as the egg was broken into pieces, but still tasted nice :) We decorated a few of the pieces.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
The icing was a bit fiddly, even after warning it in warm water. The stand was a useful idea to keep the egg upright.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes, she did, as it was a novelty and she loves anything Easter related.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes, she has eaten Cadburys chocolate before and enjoys the taste of it.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Yes, at the right price, it is a fun, short activity to do to celebrate Easter.

We didn't bother putting the icing in water, I don't think it is necessary.
My DCs are 8 and 10 and the oldest said it wasn't as easy as she expected and the youngest said not that easy. They both enjoyed it very much by doing a side each. My eldest would not recommend it because she wanted more colours and decorations. If the price was right I think its good for 5 minutes but the icing definitely needs to be thicker!

  1. Very. We were lucky enough to have the egg in one piece. Easy to set up the stand and due to the feedback I'd read, we didn't heat the icing tube. It worked fine although a little runny.

  1. Yes, I did think maybe just one colour would be less exciting but actually the 8 year old was quite keen to decorate properly! (See photo). I did let them have sprinkles to add just in case.

  1. Yes - it smelt really nice once out of the packaging and was enjoyed

  1. Yes I think so, if we were talking about things like that.

Our egg arrived in pieces :( but theres no complaints about the taste of the chocolate ... its lovely! my little one loved it :) I did try the icing out on another plain bar of chocolate ... I agree that the icing was a little hard to use for the younger ones as it kept having to go back in hot water ... but nothing an older child can't handle :)

Thank you for letting us try it though :)

Unfortunately our egg arrived smashed so we didn't get the full effect of the decorating but definitely enjoyed the eating.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
The instructions were clear and quick to follow, so yes in theory it was easy. However, the icing was either overly thin and kept running, or pretty solid where even I struggled to squeeze some out.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
We managed to prop up a broken section in the stand and yes she did enjoy decorating it (4 yr old). She even thought the icing looked sparkly, which was a bonus. But to be honest it didn't keep her attention for long before she wanted to eat the smaller bits. Youngest (2 yr old) was more interested in eating the chocolate and sucking on the icing tube...

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Of course! Once we'd started eating it, it was gone in a matter of minutes... nothing to do with me...

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Yes it's a good idea but it would need to be very reasonably priced and the concept and packaging would need to be given a bit more thought. I'd recommend having some examples of patterns on the box to inspire children, or even templates to use that could be cut out of the box? Also I'd perhaps give some thought to the design on the box itself as it looked like another easter egg rather than a chocolatey-crafty activity.

Thanks very much for the opportunity Cadbury's and Mumsnet!

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Our egg arrived intact but unfortunately ended up broken by the time we started icing it (long story). I put the icing in hot water for 1 minute and personally didn't find it too runny. My DD(3) had no problems squeezing out the icing, but after making a few blobs she only wanted to eat it.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
My DD did enjoy it, but as a three year old it was far too difficult for her to make anything other than blobs, and the desire to eat the egg very quickly took over from the desire to decorate.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Of course! My DD said that her favourite bit was the icing, which is fairly standard, but the chocolate was eagerly eaten too. I wasn't sure that the icing really added anything to the taste of the egg as it is basically just sugar and water (but I am obviously not the target audience).

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Only if it was as inexpensive as a similar sized Cadbury's egg, as the time spent on the decorating activity was probably less than a minute and so I'm not sure it has much added value. As mentioned above, something like chocolate buttons to stick on would make it so much better.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Don't know as egg arrived in lots of smashed pieces

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
I think he would have enjoyed the decorating as he does like to ice biscuits with me

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes, we have great fun trying to piece the egg together, giving up and then just scoffing it! Grin

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Honestly? No I don't think it is a particularly new concept and can be done with ordinary icing/sweeties

Our egg arrived broken too, but here's our feedback:

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
it looked like the stand would be easy enough to use, but we didn't use it because the egg was broken. I'm not sure how useful it would be to have the egg standing upright when the icing is pretty runny.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
They loved the idea of it. I've promised to buy some coloured writing icing tubes so that they can decorate their Easter eggs this year and maybe stick on some smarties or chocolate buttons or something. They can't wait.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
They loved it! No problem at all eating smashed ester egg.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
I'm not sure - I think I'd suggest getting different coloured icing tubes and some sweets/sprinkles and using those instead.

The egg arrived whole!
Found it very easy to use and the stand worked fine.
Icing very runny to start with but seemed to thicken up slightly as it cooled down.
Such a good idea but not reached its full potential. I think a couple of colours and some extra sweets to stick on would make it a great product.
We all liked the taste of the egg, although the oldest child wasn't keen on the icing.
As the product is I don't think I'd recommend it, no idea what the rrp is but doubt you could you charge a lot just for 1 icing tube. With lots of exciting colours or sweets I think I would recommend .
Also it was a very quick activity, we took longer to eat the egg than decorate it!
Thank you though, chocolate I'd always good.

Ours also arrived in pieces so we didn't have the opportunity to use the stand - I did set the stand up though and it was easy and sturdy enough.

How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Very easy, the icing tube was a good size and my little one was able to squeeze it with minimal help needed from me.

  • Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
She really enjoyed it but it was over very quickly!

  • Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Oh yes, she thought it was fantastic - I got lots of "mmmm yummy" "nice mummy" "lish-us mummy".

  • Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
With a few small tweaks I would, it's a great concept but it needs a few more things to make it really worthwhile, other colours of icing, sweets, that sort of thing.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to try it, we had a great time.

Our egg arrived undamaged, so off to a good start.

The kit was easy to use, stand was easy to set up, instructions easy to read. Enough icing to have fun with, but maybe a bit fiddly to get icing out.

DD loved the activity and was repeatedly asking when she could decorate her egg. She is 4 but was able to take control and decorate how she wanted to.

DD loved the taste of the egg (most 4 y.o love chocolate). She did look forward to it more because she had helped 'make' it.

Yes I would recommend to a friend, this would be great for Easter Sunday and different from the usual egg hunts.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Really simple. I didn't warm the icing, just massaged it in my hands for a few seconds and it worked fine. The holder was helpful too. As other posters have said the icing was a bit runny which made creating something that looked good tricky.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
DD was so excited to try this and loved 'blobbing' and 'wiggling' icing. She was pleased with what she had made and couldn't wait to eat it! I think maybe an older child would have been disappointed with the results (my bits look awful too!) but DD was thrilled with the results. We did one half and put it in the fridge and then did the other side - there was plenty of icing, it made the activity last longer and she was just as keen doing the second part.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg? Yes she loves cadburys and icing so a good (super sweet!) combination for her. DH seemed to like it too!

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend? Maybe. I like the fact that it gives something extra to do rather than open an egg and stuff your face. DD definitely enjoyed it but she wanted to stick things onto it - maybe some sweets or some sugar paper pictures with flowers/eggs/bunnies/chicks on would have been nice. They might also make it look a bit more professional when finished!

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Very easy, the instructions were very clear and having the stant helpped my son as he was able to use 2 hands for the icing. Our main problem (as stated by others) was that the icing was too runny, it almost caused a bit of an upset as designs "melted". Thankfully I am used to quick thinking and we turned the runs into a race to see which bit would get to the bottom first.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
My sons is autistic and sometimes food and anything messy can be a problem. He loved decorating the egg, we didn't even have too big a problem when some of the icing got on his hand, he just licked it off after a bit of encouragement. He even tried squirting some directly into his mouth (after a bit of bribery).
This activity worked out better than I thought it would. My son spent more time with the drippy icing than I think he would have if he was just drawing with the single colour; but he has differnet needs and interests to most children.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
My son loves Cadbury chocolate even though he rarely eats a whole pack or bar. He loved eating his own creation, managing to tell me if he was eating a winning or runner up drip.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
The idea of the product and including the stand is a good one, it is let down by the icing. Thisker icing and possibly more than one colour included would be a great improvement to the product. Depending on the price (if the icing problem was fixed) I would recomend it. Being a more creative mum I would buy any egg then put it on a cup and buy a pack of multi coloured icing to use. I like the fack that there is no modified starch in the icing, as this can be a problem for us and some of our friends whoes children have food allergies.

I have something to add to my review, we left our egg in the fridge over night for the icing to set, but when I went to the fridge this morning to take a picture of their masterpiece, I found the now blank egg sitting in a puddle of icing.

All the icing had run off the egg overnight, therefore I wouldn't recommend this product to people. The idea is a good one, but the icing didn't work how it should. As the children enjoyed the activity, I would probably buy a blank egg and better quality icing and do it by ourselves.
