This thread is for the Mumsnetters who have been trying Little Dish chilled toddler meals and their new range of My First Pizzas.

Here’s what Little Dish say, “When Hillary was expecting her first baby, she realised that you couldn’t buy healthy, home-cooked style meals for toddlers and young children in the shops. She set out to create a range of delicious, nutritious food made from 100% natural ingredients…and so Little Dish was born. Nearly 10 years on, we’re proud to feed around 100k little ones every week. Every Little Dish toddler meal is perfectly nutritionally balanced for a 1 to 3 year old –providing a source of protein and at least 1 portion of veg, low in salt, with no added sugar, additives or preservatives. Our new My First Pizzas are not only delicious (as approved by our Tiny Tasters) – they also provide 1 portion of veg each, contain 35% less salt than the average children’s chilled pizza and of course have no added sugar, additives or preservatives.”

Below are a few questions for you to answer about trying Little Dish meals and pizzas with your DCs – feel free to add any other thoughts you may have though, we’d love to hear them.

Ours arrived at 7am, they look lovely - will start testing them tomorrow.

BuffaloCustardbath · 05/08/2015 21:33

Ours were packaged well and arrived in fine condition. I've put a couple of meals & a pizza in the freezer to see how they deal with defrosting then being cooked.
Today DD has eaten the pesto chicken pizza - she hasn't eaten much the last couple of days as she's been poorly but happily ate most of the pizza enthusiastically. I tried a bit and couldn't taste any pesto, and the toppings seemed sparse. Impressed so far, looking forward to trying the meals now.

Cintacmrs123 · 05/08/2015 21:55

Got mine this morning and it saved the day- got back from holiday so nothing in the cupboard and a hungry teething DC. 10 mins and the pizza was ready she loved it, especially as she can eat it herself (still not mastered cutlery) she would have devoured it all had naughty daddy not stole a slice. A really easy quick meal and would be perfect for our picnics.

ThisToo · 05/08/2015 22:01

Sadly, another delivery here that didn't quite make it in one piece. 2 of the meals had burst and leaked inside the bag Sad Didn't have a chance to try any of them today but looking forward to lunchtime tomorrow.

InAndOfMyself · 05/08/2015 22:07

Another one to add that one of the freezy packs was actually a first aid cold pack which was weird.

Andcake · 05/08/2015 22:15

Ours arrived safely - ds had the cottage pie for tea - first mouthful ' I don't like it' but he then ate it all.
Haven't used the pizza yet ds hasn't eaten pizza yet so looking forward to reaction.
We do buy little dish occasionally - mostly as they often appear in the reduced section of our tesco's for 29p so it would be rude not to!
It would be interesting to know the true price as I've never really found them in store.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 05/08/2015 22:23

I used to buy them three for a fiver in Waitrose.

SweetPeaPods · 05/08/2015 22:43

I'm gutted we weren't selected for this but looking forward to seeing the pizzas in supermarket to try.

Allisgood1 · 05/08/2015 23:34

Ours arrived early this morning without incident. Ds (11m) devoured the pizza for dinner but it was so small it wasn't enough! It definitely isn't big enough to feed my 3 year old either so that was a bit disappointing. Will feedback on the meals tomorrow.

greyleaf · 05/08/2015 23:58

i was shocked to get a knock at my door i didnt know i had been picked! tried the alphabet pasta for lunch unfortunately he hated it still plenty more to try!

lotus30 · 06/08/2015 08:05

Ours arrived on time yesterday, the fish pie had split in the packaging so everything smelt of fish! but the other meals were fine.
My dd tried the meatball pizza last night, pizza isn't normally her favourite but with a bit of encouragement she ate most of it and said it was yummy. Three meatballs seemed a bit stingy though.
Looking forward to trying the other meals.

esiotrot2015 · 06/08/2015 08:57

Gosh it looks like we were lucky to receive ours all in one piece ! I'm slightly horrified by how much damage some of the food on here has sustained !!

pangaea90 · 06/08/2015 09:26

Luckily ours arrived all in one piece. Not sure how long the box had been on the doorstep as didn't hear a knock on the door, but they still felt cold Smile (although I was also a bit Confused at the first aid cool pack thing?!). Loved the cool bag and spoon though.

Another vote for being told the prices here, as it's quite influential for recommending/not recommending.

MichelleMumsnet · 06/08/2015 09:59

fraggle84 the RRP for the pizzas has not yet been finalised and so unfortunately we can't let you know just yet. Please just say if you would recommend if it was at a price you found reasonable.

I love the packaging we tried the chicken and vege pizza yesterday and it went down a treat , lovely portion size as well , for me though it's a bit bland and a bit more seasoning is needed , but that's just what my toddler is used to ..... I also noticed that left in oven for 8 mins makes the colour a bit dark for my liking ...

Moodykat · 06/08/2015 10:17

Unfortunately our pizzas arrived less than edible. I have emailed you, MichelleMumsnet, but had no reply. Our box was broken and all the gel pack things had split - all the pizzas and packaging for meals was sodden. Am gutted as was really looking forward to DC's trying the pizzas! We have had the meals before though and I know they like them so not all bad!

Thankfully our package arrived safely. Meatball pizza went down ok but meatballs picked off and left.
Fish pie not so good, had one small mouthful and refused to eat anymore.
However, 2 year old is going through a very very picky stage Confused

Christelle2207 · 06/08/2015 14:04

Very fussy 2yo ate all of the fish pie for lunch. I thought it was a bit bland tbh, and added some peas which DS always likes.

mammabear31 · 06/08/2015 14:42

Recieved our delivery yesterday, and DS devoured his meatball pizza last night; even the meatballs which suprised me! Going for the ravioli tonight, will report back more when he's had them all.

Also happy to email photos directly to Little Dish, but not to post them on here. :)

katyk81 · 06/08/2015 14:47

Thanks for the meals that arrived amid great excitement in our house yesterday. I think the children were on a mission to try and eat everything in one go!

The Ravioli was open so sadly had to go in the bin but the rest was able to be cleaned up and so far my kids have tried the the cheese and tomato pizza and the meatball pizza for lunch yesterday and the cottage pie and mild chicken curry for dinner last night.

My daughter is three and loved the plain pizza but quickly rejected the meatball one- my 6 year old son loved the meatball one and wolfed down his and his sisters unwanted portion pretty quickly before complaining about the portion size (I was quick to point out that he was double the age it is aimed at!- His comment was he wished there were made for bigger kids).

They both tried the meals in the evening which I served with lots of veg, the cottage pie went down a treat with my daughter who can be quite fussy at that time of day, although my son felt it didn't have enough taste- but again I would put that down to being older. My daughter wasn't keen on the curry, although she does eat curry from time to time but my son quite enjoyed that.

I have a feeling the other two meals will probably be demanded for dinner tonight so will report back on those soon and answer the rest of the questions properly at that point.

Anusia86 · 06/08/2015 17:01

love everything about it, my DD is bit fussy but she already had bolognese with alphabet pasta and today she ate chicken and veg risotto. Portions are generous, but she managed to eat all of it, hurrah. Finally I know that she has something nutritious as well as healthy and balanced and natural. She even ate peppers and everything else that was in the meal. Both were very tasty and mild (I tried them when was checking if not too hot for her) but I think she preferred risotto. I will add more reviews later, after she tries more of them deliciously meals. Thank you for having me in this program.

HitsAndMrs · 06/08/2015 17:03

My DDs ages 2 and 4 really enjoyed the little dishes, but more the 4 year old which was quite impressive as she hardly eats a thing! She really enjoyed the fish pie and the Shepherds pie. They didn't eat much of the pizza but they rarely touch pizzas anyway. The rice dishes didn't go down as well but that is just personal preference. I would definitely recommend the little dishes as I liked that each meal included 2 of your 5 a day and had really good sell by dates on. I'm not sure I would recommend the pizzas as they didn't stand out as any different to whats already on the market. The flavours of the meals were really good and just right for children - not too spicy etc. Overall I was really happy with the Little Dishes and I will buy them again.

Any of the bolognese dishes although he liked them all :)

They looked fantastic and taste just as good!

  • Which was your child’s favourite pizza?

The cheese & tomato one

  • Would you recommend Little Dish pizzas to friends or relatives? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes! they look and taste like proper grown up pizzas, absolutely delish and highly recommended. Thumbs up Little Dish, we love you! :)

  • What other healthy, natural food would you like Little Dish to make?

Yogurts are a big fave of my sons so yogurt or fromage frais or nice rice pudding s would be lovely :)

TheImprobableGirl · 06/08/2015 17:14

We tried the pizzas today. Dd1 (4) is really fussy, but she has dug right in when usually it is a lick of the new food and then a refusal to eat any more!

Dd2 (15mo) is absolutely LOVING them, (see pic) and she is definitely not a pizza fan usually!

A bit doughy-er than the usual pizza I buy but I think the breadline texture is what dd2 enjoys. The smaller amount of cheese is really going down well, although the cheese and tomato pizza was better received than chicken and pesto. I think the flavour of the pesto was a little strong

Arrived yesterday- two pizzas and one lasagne have already been demolished by DS (2.4)Shock

He is normally so fussy and I was worried he would turn his nose up at the pizza- but he loves them!
He's just eaten the pesto and chicken pizzaShockI cannot believe it!
