This thread is for the Mumsnetters who have been trying Little Dish chilled toddler meals and their new range of My First Pizzas.

Here’s what Little Dish say, “When Hillary was expecting her first baby, she realised that you couldn’t buy healthy, home-cooked style meals for toddlers and young children in the shops. She set out to create a range of delicious, nutritious food made from 100% natural ingredients…and so Little Dish was born. Nearly 10 years on, we’re proud to feed around 100k little ones every week. Every Little Dish toddler meal is perfectly nutritionally balanced for a 1 to 3 year old –providing a source of protein and at least 1 portion of veg, low in salt, with no added sugar, additives or preservatives. Our new My First Pizzas are not only delicious (as approved by our Tiny Tasters) – they also provide 1 portion of veg each, contain 35% less salt than the average children’s chilled pizza and of course have no added sugar, additives or preservatives.”

Below are a few questions for you to answer about trying Little Dish meals and pizzas with your DCs – feel free to add any other thoughts you may have though, we’d love to hear them.

DD had the cheese ravioli with veg sauce today. It looked/smelled nice and she ate all bar the last mouthful, but I wouldn't say she was overwhelmed by it. For a 2 year old I think the ravioli could be smaller as I had to cut them all in half. Also - very long cooking time on the packet as it was too hot to eat after just 1 minute in the microwave!

The box arrived in a dreadful state though thankfully nothing inside was damaged.

My box looked like that too!

Tasha6891 · 05/08/2015 18:43

We have also had packaging issues too.
Although little dish has obviously tried to package the product well, the gel pack had exploded In the cool bag and also one of the dishes (the chicken and butternut squash pie) was also open and sauce all over the other dishes) this was really disappointing.

Nevertheless we are looking forward to trying the pizzas and the meals.

We tried the cheese and tomato pizza today. A bite was taken out of each piece and eaten but my lg didn't eat a lot of it but she is being extremely fussy with food of late. Will hope she eats more of the others and report back when she has :-)

LostMyBaubles · 05/08/2015 18:44

Marking place.

ds is going through an extremely fussy phase and he tried and ate half a pizza.

He was happy until he realised how saucy it was.

Will pop back soon

My box was also a bit bashed but contents fine.

My daughter had pizza for lunch which she enjoyed, picking the topping off first and eating that then ploughing through about half of the base. We'd buy that again provided it wasn't too expensive.

Chicken curry this evening. She loved the sauce and chicken. She must be used to softer rice as she spat out some of it. It was fairly al dente!

So far so good. I like the packaging!

kaymondo · 05/08/2015 18:49

Mine arrived today! So far the DC have tried the cheese and tomato and meatball pizzas - I gave them both half of each variety so they both tried both. The cheese and tomato one was definitely a winner, they both finished their half of that one. They were a bit more suspicious of the meatball one and neither ate more than a slice. I thought it looked pretty good although I was surprised there were only 3 meatballs on it.

Interestingly, given someone mentioned lack of cheese on the pizzas up thread, DS1 said that was why he liked it, as he isn't the biggest cheese fan.

I thought they were a nice size and good to have a portion of veg sneaked in, not something I've seen before on kids pizzas.

Looking forward to trying the ready meals now. Will complete all the feedback fully when we've completed our tasting!

ManicPixieDream · 05/08/2015 19:17

DS tried the chicken curry for dinner. He spat the first mouthful back out onto his plate. I had to persuade him to try a few more mouthfuls. He ate a little of it (even chicken which he usually refuses to eat at all). I wouldn't say it was a hit exactly (except with the dog). Hoping we have more luck with the pizzas tomorrow.

esiotrot2015 · 05/08/2015 19:21

Okay we had unexpected guests for Tea and the pizzas got devoured

The thing is any pizza would be eaten by most kids so it's hard to say if they are anything special

The price is very important

Magtils · 05/08/2015 19:30

Mine arrived today. Had cottage pie for dinner which went down very well with my daughter. Will write comprehensive feedback once my daughter has tried some more of the products, but so far so good!

senorita26 · 05/08/2015 19:35

Package arrived today, great selection. Portion sizes are really good. Not sure about the pizza sizes, they appear very small! Can't wait to start testing them all out on my little one.

Fluffyemenent · 05/08/2015 19:39

Meatballs and pasta went down a storm with my 2 year old. My 5 year old was slightly fussier about the pizza (she could see some vegetables!) so I ate the remains which I rather enjoyed!!

Still have the other meals to go but so far I am impressed and would definitely buy these again to have on stand by for difficult evenings. Use by dates were good also.

I would recommend these to friends and family. Just out of interest do Little Fish do many other dairy free ones?

BirgitteNyborg · 05/08/2015 19:41

The meals arrived nice and early today. Shame they didn't include two spoons as that immediately caused an argument Hmm

DS1 aged 4 tried one of the pizzas for tea, ate half of it in record time then declared he wasn't going to eat the rest as it "had tomato on it".

DS2 aged 2 refused point blank to eat any of the herby meatballs and pasta. Tasted quite nice to me though!

Here's hoping we have better luck with the other meals!

duckbilled · 05/08/2015 19:56

My box arrived today and was packaged very well. Loved the little cool bag and the spoon.
Marking my place and will report back later Smile

Pimmsbear · 05/08/2015 20:02

Super disappointed, was so looking forward to dd trying out the lovely food but our parcel was also totally wrecked upon arrival. Just as I was holding it and signing for collection the bottom of the box fell out onto the hall floor along with a load of pasta sauce spoiling the floor!
Every single one of the meals was smashed on and had leaked through the cool bag and through the cardboard box. Not impressed at all.
The pizzas were in tact but none of the good felt particularly cold, which was slightly worrying. Can't give dd the smashed meals as they were all wrecked and opened but will give her one of the pizzas tomorrow. She cried when she saw the state of the meals but was pressed by the free spoon!

Pimmsbear · 05/08/2015 20:04

Apologies for typos, lively baby in my arms while typing!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 05/08/2015 20:10

As well as a standard ice pack my package contained a Kool Kids gel pack. I wasn't sure if it was reusuable or how to dispose of it so I googled. It's a first aid item and only keeps cool for 20 mins Hmm

Eyre89 · 05/08/2015 20:15

My ds didn't like the pesto pizza which he normally loves but is being very fussy with topping at the minute keeps picking everything including cheese off. I tried it and found it very bland could hardly taste pesto at all. He inhaled the curry so taking that as a good sign, although he does love curry normally anyway. Will complete feedback once he has tried everything.

My box was also badly damaged luckily the food was all intact. But also wasn't very cold. Ds also happy with the spoon.

kellye · 05/08/2015 20:16

Lovely surprise to get a last minute email last to say I'd been chosen for this product trial. My little one had the cheese and tomato pizza which she thoroughly enjoyed and she is extremely fussy with pizza so I was amazed.
It was nice and thick and a good texture too. Good size for little ones.
Chicken curry on the menu tomorrow.

EmilyWillson · 05/08/2015 20:29

Little Dish arrived today and am very pleased with the selection! Unfortunately the Cheese ravioli packaging had broke but I managed to salavage half of it by putting it into a container so will still be able to try that one out! So far they look tasty and good quality!

DesertIslander · 05/08/2015 20:33

Mine didn't arrive and I waited in all day :(

InAndOfMyself · 05/08/2015 20:34

Two of our meals were damaged and leaked over everything else but we're looking forward to sampling the remaining three meals and the pizzas.

holidaysareoverated · 05/08/2015 20:46

Very annoyingly mine didn't show up, I took the day off work especially too.

TinyTear · 05/08/2015 20:49

Got mine, we had the cheese & tomato pizza for dinner. The 3.5 yo said she didn't like it after eating less than a quarter. I asked why and she said she didn't like the top...

I tried it and felt like it could have more cheese...

Will try the others during the next week although we are away for the weekend... DD used to adore the fish pie when little(r)

SaltySeaBird · 05/08/2015 21:04

Arrived safely and looking forward to getting DD to try it out. Will post my feedback once we have tried them all though so as to give a complete picture.

MNHQ - is there an email address we can send photos to? I don't mind taking photos of my DD eating the dishes - or even video - but I don't want it posted with this user name which is the one I signed up with. Happy for them to be used by Little Dish in marketing though.
