Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

Non-tester. I would really love to try one of these in my shower room. There are so many tiles to clean!

would love this for: kitchen - floor, tiles back of hob, high units which are a pain to clean with dodgy shoulder; laminate floors in 3 bedrooms; windows; utility room floor where dog is fed; bathroom tiles, floor, shower screen. I'm finding cleaning products increasingly irritant (prone to eczema, hayfever) so steam might be the way to go.

I would love to steam clean the area around my cats litter boxes and around the toilets. I am the only female in my house (cats included) and therefore am the only person who can accurately aim

Then the usual places like grouting round all the taps and tiles, windows etc.

I'd probably try to do my sofa and car seats too to save regularly paying for a company to clean it

westendlad · 05/01/2015 19:17

my loft is so neglected!

katyduds · 05/01/2015 19:26

I'd like to try it on my Bathroom floor, with nail varnish spills and seemingly endless dirty towels. The Karcher Steam Stick would be like an extra pair of hands!

aligiraffe · 05/01/2015 19:42

I would love to try this on my bathroom. The taps are too close to the tiles to clean everything using a cloth & normal cleaner so this would help no end.

  • Would you recommend a Kärcher Steam Stick to a friend or family?

Yep! Already have done. I love that it seems to do a little bit of everything.

  • What are your thoughts of the Steam Stick after continued use?

It's become part of my routine. I use it more and more and instead of other things. My mop is redundant and my bathroom now pretty much sparkles all the time. I think it feels so well made it will last a very long time.

  • Has your cleaning routine changed since using the Steam Stick?

As above, I've ditched the mop. I don't use chemicals as much and I'm delighted with this. I hate chemicals and feel they are to blame for a lot in our society, health and enviroment. This little beuty makes everything feel clean as well as ecological.

I would love to use this on my extension which I always avoid because it's cold in there. With the Steam Stick I reckon I could do a effective job quite quickly

knitnut24 · 05/01/2015 20:02

Non - tester. I'd use it in the bathroom, it been in the house for over 20 years and could do with a proper clean.

lolapops1 · 05/01/2015 20:14

Non tester - wow this sounds amazing just what I need, why did I not know about this before Christmas?
My shower screen constantly looks manky and no amount of cleaning has changed this.
Floors always look bad even just after cleaning.
This product sounds so easy to use too.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 05/01/2015 20:34

Tester reporting back again.

Would you recommend a Kärcher Steam Stick to a friend or family?

Hmmm. yes and no. Yes because I think it's overall a good cleaner, but no when I think of my mum. She has arthritis and Fibromyalgia and she wouldn't manage the sheer weight of the unit when it's filled with water.

  • What are your thoughts of the Steam Stick after continued use?

Overall, it's good. I'm still annoyed at the stingy offering of cloths though....it's a nuisance having to wash and dry the cloths before I can clean a different room. The floor cloth is irritating as it's flappy and baggy as it only clips on the sides. I'd have liked way more guidance in what I can use this for - I only clean floors, tiles etc with it as I simply don't know what's safe to use and which attachments to use.

  • Has your cleaning routine changed since using the Steam Stick?

I've been using it more as I'm trialling it, but I'm not sure what else I can use it on so tend to just clean as normal. I've cleaned my tiles and shower more than ever though!

mamof3boys · 05/01/2015 20:36

Non-Tester - I would love to try this on my oven, it's desperate for a deep clean

vincenta · 05/01/2015 20:49

Non-Tester.I would love to try Steam stick on carpets and floors in kitchen, bathroom as after use of steam it would be much cleaner and less germs as my son is nearly 4 month old it would be great to have much cleaner carpets before he start to crawl as he is already rolling to tummy and back and trying to move as far as possible more time and he will be crawling.
p.s. oven was so dirty but before labour I got lovely"nesting" and i scrubbed it so clean and shiny as new.

buckley1983 · 05/01/2015 20:52

Non-tester - itching to get my hands on one of these & blitz the bathroom & skirting boards! With a toddler & 2 cats my house is generally covered in pawprints, fingerprints, crayon marks, etc - as quick as I whizz to scour them away, they reappear. We have a dark slate style flooring in kitchen which is very unforgiving & would benefit hugely from some steam action!

matphil · 05/01/2015 20:59

Non-tester.
I'd love to try it in my kitchen first as everything in there is looking dull and could do with a really good deep clean.

GrooveHeart · 05/01/2015 21:06

Our conservatory. We use it to come in and out almost every day and it gets dirty during the winter :)

smella · 05/01/2015 21:42

Non-tester here. I would love to try this on my sadly neglected, filthy hole of an oven, as I'm trying to sell my house...

jcalel80 · 05/01/2015 21:46

i would love this especially for my bathroom im sure my hubby and sons go to the toilet blindfolded so this would be very helpful and keep my bthroom sparkly clean and fresh

FUZZ62 · 05/01/2015 21:47

The bedroom of my two young boys (aged 7 and 5)...am often frightened to go in there however this may give me the confidence!!

tubbyj · 05/01/2015 21:47

the hall carpet...

tanyavt · 05/01/2015 21:55

Non-tester: would love to see if it could clean the grout on my floor tiles in the kitchen... particularly by the back door- it's gone a rather attractive shade of brown :-(

The bathroom. Bathroom floors really make my skin crawl, even when clean.Th wwould def mamake me feel a lot bebetter.

linheiner · 05/01/2015 22:25

Non-tester Wow! Having read all the comments I'd love to clean everything with it! If you can use it to clean the oven I'd definately use it for that first!

fairyprincess79 · 05/01/2015 22:28

We've not long been in this house (2 weeks after our 2nd baby was born to be precise!) and I would love to get my hands on something to give my bathroom a good clean. It doesn't feel like my bathroom yet!

barker99 · 05/01/2015 22:29

Non tester - I'd love to clean our bathroom tiles and the hose for the shower head as the little gaps always look grubby even though I clean them with an old toothbrush
