Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

I would love to try this out on all my laminate and vinyl floors-i have 4 dogs at the moment, we foster rescue dogs and my floors are a nightmare to keep clean!

non-tester - I always put off cleaning my oven

I have used steam cleaners before however had always bought cheap - which is a complete loss leader as They have ended up breaking down entirely. With a mucky dog and two cats and being an avid gardener our Kitchen floor ( at 22ft x 15ft) needs a LOT of cleaning!. It engineered wood and the steam cleaning process works very effectively - would love a good quality model!

My utility room where my pets eat. It's muddy, and under the mud is suck on cat food and dog slobber . Yuck

Tester :

I've so far been most pleased with the results in the bathroom - I've never had a steam cleaner before so wasn't really sure what to expect tbh. It's pretty good at lifting the limescale and grub off making it easier to wipe down. Most pleased with the shower screen which looks much cleaner than I can get with conventional cloths and sprays.

I just have to get in the swing if getting it out but once I do I can't stop using it and seem to be constantly refilling it.
A water gauge on the side would have been useful to start with but I'm better at judging it now

I would use it in the
kitchen especially the oven !!

Mitchdafish · 05/01/2015 14:28

Non-tester: MIL swears by hers, she even took it on holiday to do the windows! I really need to give the whole house a good clean including roof windows and the old but servicable bathroom. I'd love the change to give it a try. Plus I need cheering up now that I have gone up a Mumsnet age bracket.

Julie2146 · 05/01/2015 14:32

Non Tester - I would use it on my living room carpet as its in need of a good clean, easily gets dirty with having a dog!

would use it on my oven, kitchen floor, utility room floor (cat and dog fed there), bathroom floor, shower room tiles on wall and in shower, cleaning grease off kitchen wall tiles behind hob, kitchen units which are high up and difficult to clean with my dodgy shoulder, laminate floors in 3 bedrooms.

maria08k · 05/01/2015 14:37

My oven and my kitchen floor

anteena · 05/01/2015 14:47

i would use it in my shower cubicle to get a clear clean glass and as i have the small mosaic tiles this would be perfect to clean the grout

SmileyShazza · 05/01/2015 15:10

I think both our kitchen and bathroom would benefit from a steam stick. We recently moved into our house and its obvious that the previous occupants didn't put cleaning very high on their list of priorities. There is some areas in both the bathroom and kitchen where there is some quite ingrained dirt which I can't seem to shift no matter how hard I scrub or how many products I use on it. I think a steam stick would really help loosen it up and make it easier for me to remove.

jac22 · 05/01/2015 15:22

non-tester: I would like to try it where the cats come in from the cat flap, it's disgusting!

I'd be using it on my kitchen and bathroom floor. Made the mistake of using white grout and it always looks grimy no matter what I do to it.

Non-Tester

Having a curious hyperactive toddler means I literally have to mop twice a day sometimes and the stains missed really seem to stick. My whole house would benefit from a steam stick but most especially my overly-greasy kitchen..oven,floors and counters (due to lack of a window and an under-performing extractor) and my laminate flooring...and oh let's not forget the windows (all this cold weather isn't helping the damp feeling).

rm95 · 05/01/2015 16:28

Most definitely on the bathroom floor and the wall tiles

MiniZilla · 05/01/2015 16:43

Non tester - I would love to do a really deep steam clean on our horrible sticky kitchen floor. Our kitchen seems to be in constant use with 2 DC aged 5 and 2, tea addict me, snack loving Dh and a cat so the floor never gets properly cleaned.

iffeeee · 05/01/2015 16:53

Would love to try this on my living room walls as a tester mentioned they had - to see if it will shift the cryaon doodlings. Would also like to experiment with my soft furnishings and carpet - save me a bit of elbow grease.

I fell and broke my last one. My disability means I am constantly sick without warning. So my side of the bed is really missing it's weekly deep clean. And does whiff a bit.

annieno1 · 05/01/2015 17:13

My kitchen floor would really benefit from this its needs scrub usual me on my hands and knees so i always avoid this cleaning job in my house but with this it would make it a pleasure to clean

TiggersAngel7774 · 05/01/2015 17:14
