Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

Non-tester: I'd probably use it in my kitchen first. It would be good to give the oven, hobs, and floor a nice deep clean. And then I'd take care of the bathrooms.

Stujobohm · 17/01/2015 06:42

My kitchen floor desperately needs a good clean..... Would love to win ??

katyk81 · 17/01/2015 10:43

Non Tester. I would like to try this on several areas but the one that immediately comes to mind is the oven- this is the job that I hate the most and if I never had to clean it again I would be very happy. It would be great to think there might be something that could make this awful task a little easier.
I would also be interested to see how it performed on the grout in our bathroom which is getting to a stage where it could really benefit from being redone.
Generally it looks like a great solution for a deep clean across the whole house!

BrendaBlackhead · 18/01/2015 15:27

My kitchen floor is in dire need of a good clean. Being grey, it tempts me to shirk on the cleaning as I can't really see the dirt, but I know it's there all the same.

asuwere · 18/01/2015 19:19

Non-tester. Being totally honest, I think my whole house needs a deep clean! Particular area that gets missed is the oven. Would also like to see how it works in the bathroom in all the nooks. Be good to try and get round all the windows, next to the hinges and all the silicon edges as they seem to attract dirt but hard to reach.

colleysmill · 19/01/2015 11:55

I really enjoyed testing this steam cleaner. I've never had a steam cleaner before and wasn't sure really what to expect and I think my expectations were unrealistically high!!

It was brilliant on Windows and the sink and tiles and hopefully with continued use will get the limescale off the taps. I found it wasn't brilliant at carpet stains and like other testers I frequently ran out of water and had to get topped up. It was fiddly at first but I gait better at it. Some kind of indicator for when it was ready would be good.

My only complaint is I thought our house was reasonably clean and this showed me that some parts of the house clearly weren't!

Would I recommend it? Yes I probably would. Day to day my cleaning habits haven't really changed but it's really good for a once a week good deep clean.

I can confirm that I received the steam stick for free to trial and this is my honest opinion on the product

serendipity1980 · 19/01/2015 17:14

Non tester: I was gutted not to be a tester so I would really love to win one to get to work on our shower cubicle. It is quite grim in all the the corners and edges around the door but I find it so hard to clean because I'm a wheelchair user. It would be wonderful to receive a Karcher steam cleaner so I can make this difficult job so much easier and more enjoyable. I'd have a sparkling clean shower that I wouldn't be embarrassed about!

helenthemadex · 19/01/2015 18:44

non tester; I have an old house and in the hallway there are original victorian tiles they are beautiful but have loads of ingrained dirt I would love to try cleaning these up with the karcher steam cleaner

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 20/01/2015 09:52

Non tester: Where do I start? The inside of our oven door looks like it's been dipped in treacle Blush. The grouting in our bathroom made my builder shake his head in sorrow. The tiles on our doorstep are so vile that at dd's last birthday party I asked parents to come to the back door, I was so ashamed. Working parent without much time for deep cleans, this would spur me on.

worrybynature · 20/01/2015 12:42

Non tester. I would love to give it a good go on my oven. Also my bathroom is floor to ceiling tiles that have not been cleaned in over a year, because I can't reach the really high ones. I have a Shark floor steam cleaner which is excellent, but can only do floors. Would love to win a Karcher steam stick to make my tiles clean again!

scabbycat · 20/01/2015 12:48

Non tester.

I would use the steam cleaner on my wooden floors throughout the house and in my kitchen and bathroom. With a little one who is just starting to crawl I'd like an alternative to using harsh chemicals to clean the floor.

I can see so many uses for this steam stick. On first view, looks light and easy to use, especially in the kitchen - cupboards, tiles, hob, oven, extractor, worktop; sink; in the bathroom - glass panel, mirror, tiles. Laminate throughout the flat;
Would be of great use, as I have open plan kitchen-living room and 6,5month old just started to crawl, so hygiene is top priority.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/01/2015 09:30

So when will this thing of wonder be available to buy?

CuddlesandContouring · 21/01/2015 09:39

Non tester: I would love to use this on every inch of my house! Its impossible to narrow it down to just one area. Being a mom I find myself constantly cleaning all areas that my child decides to walk, dribble, colour, crawl, play, eat on etc. There is nothing more important to me then creating a safe and clean environment for my child as so I would love to test this product and reveiw it! :)

LynnGay159 · 21/01/2015 13:47

Non tester..I would love this for my downstairs toilet with 5 boys in the house its very Hit and miss where they aim and it's more often miss the bowl and hit the floor! And my poor oven would love to see out of its window

Selina · 21/01/2015 23:09

Non tester :
I have a very old steamer which leaks and comes out it fits and starts and ends up with wet patches.
I would like to steam my mattresses and pillows and the bathroom, kitchen and wooden floors, esp the area where people come in and out- mopping doesn't cut the mustard ...
my car seats, my shower doors, the tiling in the kitchen and bathroom
can it do the cooker extractor hood ?

Xem0girlx · 21/01/2015 23:38

I would love to try it in my bathrooms, I live in a town house and find getting all the way up to the top floor with a mop and bucket hellish, as such the floor is rarely cleaned unless I can be bothered to get down on my hands and knees and clean it with a bit of elbow grease!

Fizzyplonk · 22/01/2015 18:57

The laminate in our kitchen is getting dirt ingrained in the grain if it. I've tried all sorts and would love to know if a steam cleaner would work

Jux · 23/01/2015 17:23

HELP!!!
(non-tester Sad)

Further to my post upthread, I have today poured a whole large jam jar's worth of super-saturated sugar solution all over my kitchen carpet instead of using it to make large sugar crystals. My carer/helper was here so she scrubbed with lots of hot water and detergent, but it is still sticky as anything. I have tried scrubbing it myself but am weak and in pain and can't do it.

I neeeeeeeeed this cleaner. Now. Very very now!

SweetPeaPods · 25/01/2015 20:55

Non tester- I would really like to give my bathrooms a deep clean, especially the shower in the en suite.

popsicle123 · 26/01/2015 17:14

Non-tester: I have a 4 month old baby who is just starting to get in to everything and I'm also a clean- freak. I'd love to test something that would make things really hygienic for my baby to be around but would also save time doing chores. Where wouldn't I like to try it?! I'd love to try it on my oven doors as they take ages to do with spray... the grouting on my bathroom tiles as I cannot get them white whatever I try... our house is a military pad and the kitchen floor is old and I'd love to give it a deep clean.

MissisG · 26/01/2015 17:49

I would use this first on my conservatory as with 4 cats in and out with muddy paws and the family in and out of the garden it has to be cleaned often (not to mention muddy feet from my chickens when they manage to get in for a warm!) But from reading all the positive reviews it sounds like the possibilities for its use are endless!

Pimientos100 · 26/01/2015 18:38

I would use this on my kitchen floor as its impossible to get clean, I blew my last hoover steam mop up while trying !lol

jennymac31 · 26/01/2015 20:30

I would use the steam cleaner to clean the floors downstairs in our kitchen and living room, especially as we're about to embark on potty training with our 21 month old so I think a steam cleaner would definitely come in handy for all the little (and not so little) accidents that we'll have to face.

Gargroops · 26/01/2015 23:02

Would love to clean the kitchen ,grease in the oven ,lime scale in bathrooms and last but not the least,,the tiles and showers..
