Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

Non-Tester: In my kitchen, because it needs a good clean.

Wow this sounds like a great product, could use it in so many places, mostly my kitchen and bathroom - and take it to my dad's to do his whole house!!

Lydia30 · 05/01/2015 23:19

Non Tester - my kitchen floor. I've got 2 large dogs, an elderly cat and 2 messy children. The tiled floor takes a daily battering and I would love to make my life a bit easier. The range cooker could also do with a good clean as could the shower door and tiles

My bathroom needs a really good deep clean and reading some of the tester's replies here I think I need a Karcher steam stick!

beb73 · 05/01/2015 23:50

Non tester - I would love to use it on my kitchen floor. With all the grease and outside weather as well as two cats it could do with a deap clean!

I would use the Steam Stick in every part of my home. It is obviously amazingly versatile and can tackle cleaning anywhere.

It would be a boon on my quarry-tiled kitchen and hall floors - so far hand scrubbing has been the best solution. My kitchen has a lot of little nooks and crannies which attract grease and are difficult to reach. The Steam Stick sounds like the answer to oven cleaning, which is difficult to reach into, the grill compartment, and tiles around the stove top. Everything in the kitchen develops a film of grease, so cleaning with the Steam Stick should be a doddle!

The separate toilet has horizontal pipes behind the pan which gather manky dust and are hard to reach and clean properly. The front porch is open to the elements and garden detritis - the Steam Stick would make short work of all the sticky cobwebs that collect there.

Carpets throughout the house would benefit from a staem clean, along with upholstery and soft furnishings, in every room.

I would also use it for killing weeds along the garden paths and to sterilise the greenhouse, plant pots and seed trays, which would also save me money, and give my vegetables a healthy start!

My bedroom, because I'm always spilling make-up powders on the carpet!

I am a non tester. As a mother of five I could really use one of these to help with the cleaning. I try to cook a 'home cooked' meal every evening for my family, my children also love to 'help' and bake their own creations. Therefore my kitchen takes me forever to clean. It would be great to have one of these to help me clean it.

lornamacfadyen · 06/01/2015 08:58

non tester - I always avoid the shower tiles! I would love to have a steam stick to have a good go on them!

Error123 · 06/01/2015 09:10

Tester again!!

Just to say a longer cord would be good. If I am doing the downstairs I need to unplug it for each room. Also agree about the cloth. It is flappy and could fit better. I have nor problems with it catching on anything mind you and we have a slightly uneven natural wood floor. There are gaps between boards etc and it's never caught.

I'm going to do my windows today.

srobbo71 · 06/01/2015 10:02

I am a non tester but would love to try one out in my kitchen. The oven is in desperate need of a clean after the festivities.

colleysmill · 06/01/2015 10:16

Tester: just found the little round brush at the very bottom of the box! didn't know I had it until I trawled back through the thread - might get better results now!

lisa71ish · 06/01/2015 10:20

i would so love this for our bathroom. Living in a house of men and a young one in particular that never puts the light on when he visits the loo in the night. This would be fab to guarantee a clean floor and not feeling the need to wear my slippers on a visit to the loo

Smorgs · 06/01/2015 11:16

Non tester: I would love to try out the Karcher Steam Stick. With a baby and a toddler I could find anywhere in the house to use it but most in need is my kitchen and bathroom. Im in a rented house so I need to get it really clean before we move to avoid losing any deposit but cleaning is like painting the Forth Bridge with children around. This would make it much easier!

1ivewire · 06/01/2015 11:16

Non-Tester:

I'd really love to deep clean our kitchen. Although it gets hoovered daily and mopped regularly, our german shepherd sleeps in there and accesses the back garden via the kitchen so it can get quite mucky - especially during these wet and wintry days! I'd love to deep clean all the cupboard doors, laminate floor and kitchen surfaces so my kitchen can get it's shine back :-)

HALA · 06/01/2015 11:36

(non- tester) I would love to use this steam cleaner in my kitchen and bathroom to give them a very thorough cleaning, as I have 4 children, and these areas get dirty quickly.

piggypoo · 06/01/2015 12:07

It has to be the stone floor in the kitchen! The grouting between the tiles could really do with a good hard pressure wash on it, to get rid of the pet paw dirt! :)

helcrai · 06/01/2015 12:11

My kitchen floor- it's my least favourite job as its such a hassle getting the mop & bucket out.

I need this to clean my little DS's highchair...the crumbs and muck have a knack of getting right in the crevices and in the straps and its just a nightmare to clean (wipeclean or not!)

bextow · 06/01/2015 12:22

It would have to be the bathroom, I'm potty training at the moment and he often wanders of mid-flow!

MamaMummyMum · 06/01/2015 12:50

non tester : having just moved into a new house I would really love to use the steam stick everywhere (you never know what germs people leave behind) but especially in the bathroom. The shower could use a deep clean!

nanoobaku · 06/01/2015 13:55

Non-tester the kitchen and bathroom need a good deep steam clean. Forgotten what colour the tiles are and as for the shower don't ask

fiona1189 · 06/01/2015 14:23

My kitchen could do with a good deep clean. On top of and inside all my cupboards, behind all my appliances. All the boring horrible cleaning that I absolutely hate doing.

jacqroberts68 · 06/01/2015 15:35

The kitchen for sure, the dogs make such a mess in there.
