Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

The bedroom carpets woud benefit from a steam clean, as would the inside of the oven!

spiritofthetime · 04/01/2015 20:14

Non-tester: I'd like to use the steam stick to tackle the mould on out window frames. I'm asthmatic and allergic to mould and, having spent Christmas laid up in nebulisers my NY resolution is to keep my house spotless to help reduce my triggers. Smile

Bobbylolly570 · 04/01/2015 20:17

The Kitchen floor - doesn't matter how hard I scrub the floor just never looks clean

Jillri · 04/01/2015 20:37

Non tester. Would use it on my bathroom floor, have 2 little boys in throws of toilet training, let's say their aim is not always what it should be!

KillerOfThreads · 04/01/2015 20:43

Non tester...
I'd love a steam cleaner. I've had one on my Christmas list for the last two years in the hope family would club together and get me one...maybe 3rd time lucky!

I'd love to attack my kitchen (especially the splash board at the back of the hob and the sides of the cupboards) and my windows. But I'd love nothing more than to attack my bathroom with a steam cleaner. The person who picked it clearly didn't clean! The tiles have a stupid nobbly design so have to scrub them religiously with bleach and a toothbrush to stop mould growing in them. And the bath - weeps - the handles are hollow at the back if that makes any sense. The first time I cleaned them I was nearly sick, the endless black crap - I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and still do to this day as I've never been able to get rid of all of it :( I hate it.
I have high hopes a SC will be the answer to my prayers!

funkyfreks · 04/01/2015 21:04

Non Tester - I'd like to give this a go in my down-stairs toilet area.

AvengingGerbil · 04/01/2015 21:37

Non tester.

If I had one, I would use it to attack the fleas my beloved cats insist on sharing with my carpets and soft furnishings. I hate using chemicals.

Annbunce · 04/01/2015 21:41

After all the Christmas cooking - my oven !!!!!

clairewilko29 · 04/01/2015 22:04

my kitchen floor, its horrible cream lino with bits, looks filthy constantly

ksouthcott · 04/01/2015 22:14

Non-tester: I'd love to deep clean my bathroom!

katiecoodle1 · 04/01/2015 22:55

My beds - the mattresses could do with steaming, and pillows too.

ddpunk182 · 04/01/2015 23:18

Would love to give my bathroom tiles a good steaming! The ventilation is rubbish in there and i worry about the build up of bacteria constantly!

jtl1131 · 05/01/2015 00:15

non tester - this would be perfect for the living room, i have 2 toddlers and 3 older children and would love to give the carpet a good clean and know that its safe for my babies

libra101 · 05/01/2015 04:38

I would love to use in my bathroom. The tiles both on the walls and flooring could do with a real steam clean. The Karcher is powerful enough to even tackle mould and mildew which collects in this steamy atmosphere. Much more powerful than the chemicals available to do these jobs.

Flossiecrossie · 05/01/2015 07:21

My husband's bathroom. I don't know why, but he can't see when it really needs cleaning :(

Ryancrawshaw · 05/01/2015 07:40

my shower, no amount of scrubbing gets it looking clean and new

robyn297 · 05/01/2015 08:43

I would love to give my bathroom a good steam clean. We have lived in this house for just over a month and despite cleaning the bathroom several times, it still doesnt feel clean enough for my liking.

AngelieMumsnet · 05/01/2015 09:20

Thanks for all your feedback so far! Now that you've been testing your SC1 Steam Stick for a little while, we have a final few questions for you:

  • Would you recommend a Kärcher Steam Stick to a friend or family?
  • What are your thoughts of the Steam Stick after continued use?
  • Has your cleaning routine changed since using the Steam Stick?
jennywren7 · 05/01/2015 09:24

My bathroom, with a husband and 3 sons, it gets quite a few splashes!

keedie · 05/01/2015 09:48

non tester - I would use it in the kitchen. especially the oven. can never get it clean properly.

thesoupdragon44 · 05/01/2015 10:11

I have looked at steam cleaners before and think my kitchen floor would be the place to try out the steam stick.

sarah3875 · 05/01/2015 10:24

Non Tester- It would be the living room for me. It's the room that gets used the most and the kids eat at our little table in there so I always feel it needs a deep clean!

dstill1964 · 05/01/2015 10:27

Non Tester; Would love this to get in the nooks and crannies of my bathroom. Its really important that the bathroom be really hygienic to keep my family safe and well and limit infection. This is especially important during the winter months when the Flu and Norovirus bugs abound.

danikagrace · 05/01/2015 10:47

Our entrance area!

DoItTooJulia · 05/01/2015 11:09

Tester:

I would recommend it to a friend, in fact my sister borrowed it and I had a job getting it back! She steamed some vintage clothing. Seemed to do the trick of getting the Bo smells out of a dry clean only coat, so result there!

Re continued use, I have found that I really like it! The testers who told me I could lock it on have helped me to love it! I have cleaned all of the nooks and crannys of the highchair....I thught I kept it spick and span, but evidently not! The shit that came out of it was disgusting!

I hve also steamed the washing machine dispenser drawer and its cavity! The black gunk shifted and it looks like new!

Has my cleaning routine changed? Yes! I dismantle things (high chair, washing machine) just to steam them and get them properly clean. Will be attempting the floor this afternoon, so will feedback again.

Thanks Karcher and MN, great little gadget that will be used and used again!
