Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

My bathroom!! Due to my mum being incontinent our bathroom has to be scrubbed every single day! This would make my life a LOT easier!!!

LovelyBranches · 03/01/2015 18:59

I'm a non tester and I would love to win because I really need to clean parts of my carpet. I was in full nesting mode, heavily pregnant and happily mopping the kitchen floor when I accidentally tipped the mop bucket over.

The water went everywhere, including over the carpet in the room next door. It soaked through and despite me trying my best to dry it, it went hideously smelly and we've had to replace the underlay (that was fun with my massive bump). We've now got a newborn and a stained carpet so a good clean would be much appreciated.

Non tester here! I inherited a bright green 1970's Poggenpohl kitchen when we bought our house. It's completely retro and I love it (which is lucky as we can't afford to replace it), but the tiles have been sadly neglected. I now have two young children, and I'm too lazy busy to get them properly clean. I reckon one of these steam cleaning thingies would do the trick, and save my blushes when people venture into my kitchen Smile

sweir1 · 03/01/2015 20:26

Has to be the kitchen. It is awful right now!

pennystextiles · 03/01/2015 21:06

The oven would be great to try this out on! Anything that means I can avoid all the chemicals needed would be great.

farmerswifey · 03/01/2015 21:23

Non-Tester.

I am married to a muddy farmer.
We have five equally muddy Sheepdogs.
and an incontinent 14 year old cat
and a jam loving toddler

My floors could really use a deep clean ready for our new baby's arrival.

MsMarple · 03/01/2015 22:45

Non tester: I'd love to try the steam stick on my bathroom floor. The tiles are a rough stone-like finish, which is great for safety as you don't slip, but means that they don't come up clean unless I cover them with soda crystals and go really mad with a scrubbing brush. So, as you can imagine, I am often putting off cleaning the bathroom floor. The Steam Stick looks like it would be a lot quicker, and much more fun! Also I like the idea of it being chemical free as the perfumes in most cleaning products affect my sinuses. Please let me win one!

lentilpot · 04/01/2015 09:30

Non-tester: all the floors in our house could do with a steam clean now DS is about to start crawling!

nogabush · 04/01/2015 10:03

Non-Tester - I'd really love to use this to get at my kitchen floor and tiles. The floor hasn't been re-laid since then house was built and the tiles are starting to get a bit worse for wear. The steam stick would be great for getting into the worn nooks and crannies! Same goes for the tiles on the wall behind the sink.

bellaboo194 · 04/01/2015 11:41

Non tester, my kitchen especially the wall tiles as they're looking a bit greasy.

wef1984 · 04/01/2015 12:26

Non Tester - I'd use it on the tiles behind the cooker, the grease sticks so hard your scrubbing for days to try and get it off.

mwatmough · 04/01/2015 12:33

In the kitchen first then the bathroom

tinam1 · 04/01/2015 12:40

Would have to be the kitchen x

mummyto2boys01 · 04/01/2015 14:02

Non tester.

We're moving into a new home soon, so every room will need a good steam clean before we move in.

kpdchudleigh · 04/01/2015 14:25

I'd love to try the steam stick to tackle the high up and hard to reach parts of my bathroom. The corners, the curved seal around the shower screen and the extractor fan are all tricky spots and I bet steam could make short work of them.

I would love to steam clean the ants on my patio when they appear in the summer. The blighters had the cheek to come into the conservatory as well, this year.

alison991 · 04/01/2015 15:54

I would love to give my bathroom and kitchen a though steam clean

Treaclepot · 04/01/2015 15:57

I would love one of these. My curtains and sofa have been well and trueku ruined by dogs and children. I can't face washing the curtains as they are too big for the washing machine

CheeseEMouse · 04/01/2015 17:41

Non tester - I'd love to clean the carpet of our toddler's bedroom. There is a sticky patch of spilt calpol that just won't shift. It was a new carpet before we had her!

eandh · 04/01/2015 17:48

Whoever mentioned extractor fan in bathroom .. I tried that last week and it's not working now oops!

Powaqa · 04/01/2015 18:23

I have tested it some more - this time in the bathrooms

I have asthmas and am not normally able to clean these (my DH does them) as the chemicals set it off

My grout had become orange in some places and this was perfect in helping to remove it - the little round brush really helped

The small brush with the cloth over it was brilliant on the tiles, they came up gleaming

Thankfully the lock hint earlier really helped as well

My only gripes are:
I do wish the light would change colour when it was ready for use
The tank would hold slightly more water - but then it wouldn't be so easy and light to hold

chrin · 04/01/2015 18:28

O would love to try this out on my hallway carpet as it is the one that is walked on the most so is the one most in need of a deep clean

obi1kinobi · 04/01/2015 18:42

Non-tester: I would have to use one in the kitchen to clean the oven and the tiles around the cooker. Although both get cleaned I can't get everything off.

I would also use it on the floor surfaces throughout the house

Gilla01 · 04/01/2015 18:55

Non tester: The shower cubicle - floor and tiles would be good to use this on. Also the oven - my most hated job!

peanutmum111 · 04/01/2015 18:55

Non-Tester, I know straight away where I would use the stick and that is the toilet and shower. The men in my house and both grandsons, cannot aim correctly and leave the cleaning to me. I need the help please
