AngelieMumsnet · 29/09/2014 14:53

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out the Weight Watchers programme.

Weight Watchers say: “With 50 years of success behind us we understand how to make losing weight simple, delicious and fun; but we also understand how challenging it can be when you’re facing it alone. Join us to lose weight, feel fantastic and achieve great things. You can follow our healthy eating plan completely online with support from our unique community, or benefit from attending our lively meetings, for personal coaching and weight loss guidance.”

Testers: we'll be asking you to add feedback once a week - we'd like your first impressions now and every week after that, we'll be posting some new questions for you to answer.

So, in terms of your first impressions...

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?

Everyone who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will receive a £100 Asda voucher, good luck!

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Weight Watchers on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I have spent all day yesterday and today in bed with the flu (well a nasty cold anyway). Should be a good thing as normally when I'll I can't eat anything but this time even though I have a killer throat I am starving and all I want to do is eat!!!!!

Ledkr · 13/10/2014 16:12

I get like that when I'm ill brie even if I'm sick I'm thinking what can I eat!! Obviously the mindset that got me fat in the first place!!
I've not planned dinner tonight which is fatal as I'm at work till late and dh is working too!

iwantgin · 13/10/2014 19:10

Oh, feel better soon Brie .

Back from weigh-in. I have lost a further 2.5 lbs. So that is 9lbs in two weeks!

Good, eh :)

Sixgeese · 13/10/2014 19:16

Well done iwantgin I was wondering how the Monday weighers got on this week.

SandWitch · 13/10/2014 19:22

I have been charged too...

How did you spend your weekly allowance of 49 ProPoints values last week?
Alcohol. I have been trying to be good, but after a tough week at work we went out for a drink and my aim of staying on Diet Coke proved pointless.

Have you started any exercise or new activity?
Not organised activity, but I am trying to walk to work twice a week - it's a 4 mile trip and takes about 80 minutes.

What do enjoy about your meetings?
I've not been to any meetings yet. I thought that I would be able to go straight from work, but things have been so busy, I never seem to make it out of the office on time. I am away for 10 days from the end of this week, and can't go tomorrow as I am giving blood.
When I get back I have every intention of going. I think I need the focus.

What Weight Watchers tools have you found most useful online?
The pro points calculator is good.

Have you been using the Weight Watchers App? If so, do you like it?
I have downloaded it, but if I am really honest, it drives me crazy. It's just not particularly user friendly. A couple of weeks before the trial began I started to use My Fitness Pal and I find this much easier. I think that WW could save themselves a whole lot of grief by joining forces with MFP and embedding a Points goal, rather than calorie count.
I have also downloaded a step counter and like the way that this syncs with MFP.

Have you discovered any new foods / tried any new recipes?
I've tried cottage cheese for the first time - it's not exactly ever going to be one of my favourite foods, but I'm sure it will come in handy for a quick, easy lunch.

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 13/10/2014 19:35

iwantgin that's great well done!

Hope you feel better soon Brie.

I've got my first meeting tomorrow did others go half an hour early to get registered?

iwantgin · 13/10/2014 20:23

Thanks Lottie

Yes, I went a little early my first week - but it didn't take that long to register anyway. just one form to fill out.

Good luck!!

Sixgeese · 13/10/2014 20:32

I just turned up at 9.30 when they opened, I am not sure if anyone would have been there earlier, and as they share the hall entrance with a preschool turning up earlier would have meant getting caught up with their traffic.

In my group there was a table just inside the entrance with a short form to fill in (took 5 minutes max), then I was told to join the queue to get weighed, but I had be weighed by the group leader not her helper, then I had to sit down for the talk. After the talk was the new member chat. The whole thing took almost 2 hours by the time I left.

Good luck Lottie I was nervous too when I went, but it was easier than I expected.

ShyPhilosopher · 13/10/2014 20:49

Got my Silver 7 today, as I've lost another 2lbs. That was despite my daughter's birthday on Tuesday & a sleepover to celebrate on Friday. I even had a slice of birthday cake & still lost weight, I just made sure I tracked everything & kept within my Pro Points balance. Going to be another tough week, as it's my son's birthday at the weekend ... and he wants KFC for his birthday tea! Shock

Lottie - good luck with your first meeting. The doors to my meetings don't open until shortly before the start time, new members just join up whilst the rest of us get weighed.

Teladi · 13/10/2014 21:21

Congrats ladies on another success this week! I was about to say 'when I get to another 7 lbs I will make myself a silver seven' but then I realised when I get to another 7 lbs I will be AT GOAL, and it doesn't seem that unattainable now. My jeans are getting looser and I'm wondering why I didn't do something about this ages ago, I'm sure it must seem ridiculous not to have done something about only 1 stone I have to lose, I was always pretty active but I didn't seem to know where to start with changing what I was eating. Anyway!

I've been a bit crap with tracking this week but I'm hoping I will still have lost as I've tried to make sensible and low PP choices, just not actually put it all into the website. I will definitely try to do better next week. If I could actually manage to work the freaking phone app it would help. Everything I type in that isn't 'banana' or something like that it can't find, then I go on the website and manage to find it, which is fine but not when I'm out and trying to figure out what to eat! Those of you who were saying WW could learn a lot from MFP are not exaggerating. If I end up gaining just because I am an idiot who can't work a phone I will be v. annoyed with myself!

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 14/10/2014 00:11

Thanks for your replies. The website says to go 30 mins before but I think I'll just try and get there a little bit before it starts as I don't want to be hanging around getting worked up. I'm sure it will be fine and if I've told you guys I'm going then I can't wimp out now!

lunar1 · 14/10/2014 06:24
  • How did you spend your weekly allowance of 49 ProPoints values last week?

I only used half my propoints last week, I t was mostly at a birthday buffet and a couple of alcoholic drinks.

  • Have you started any exercise or new activity?

I an going to the gym and swimming but started this just before i joined ww.

  • What do enjoy about your meetings?

first one will be this week

  • What Weight Watchers tools have you found most useful online?

I like some of the recipies.

  • Have you been using the Weight Watchers App? If so, do you like it?

not keen on the app if im honest. i was already using mfp and find it much more user friendly.

  • Have you discovered any new foods / tried any new recipes?

I have enjoyed reading the recipe section and have used the breakfast section lots. I have also used it to alter things i already cook to make them healthier. I an measuring things now, like oil and cheese etc rather than just throwing it in.

dobedobedo · 14/10/2014 06:44

I'm about to weigh in. First I expressed some milk as dh is taking ds2 for a few hours today while I'm on a course. Is that cheating? Grin

ihatethecold · 14/10/2014 07:25

No. I take my earrings out! Grin

Sixgeese · 14/10/2014 10:02

I feel rough this week, had lunch at my parents on Sunday, turns out my Ddad who cooked it had the tail end of a bug which he passed onto me.

But I made myself come to group and have lost 4 pounds

MaryannM · 14/10/2014 11:50

Hello everybody! Its great to see how well people are getting on with this trial. We haven't had broadband for two weeks, so catching up now that we are back online.

WEEK 1:-

I plan to follow the plan mainly online and attend meetings when I can get somebody to keep an eye on the kids as my meeting runs around kide bedtime and my OH is in the middle east on deployment. If there was a local meeting during the daytime that would have been handy for me.

I signed up for the WW plan because since having my baby I have put on weight that I just cannot shift so I signed up for some support and motivation to get me on track to lose weight.

I don't think that there will be a change in foods for me as such but more of a change in routine, effort and portion size. With the kids on my own I'm always rushing around and have found that I've got myself into a bad habit of eating on the go, snacking or not eating all day and then having a huge meal late in the evening.:-(

WEEK 2

I used my ProPoints throughout the week and didn't actually use them all. I surprised myself as I thought that I would go over my points.

I used to row, so have got the rower back in the house and have have been doing 3 sessions a week (so far).

I managed a meeting but somehow didn't find it for me, I would prefer to weigh and go (I know that's not the idea). I will try again tho :-).

Online I particularly find the ProPoints calculator useful.

I have downloaded the App, its OK, I think I was expecting more from it but it does have useful features like the graph tracking progress. I have used online more than the App.

I haven't tried any new recipes yet, but I had saved a few that I plan to try out over the next few weeks.

dobedobedo · 15/10/2014 03:41

I lost 2lbs! That makes it 9lbs in 3 weeks. Smile

Teladi · 15/10/2014 09:20

I weighed in this morning at the crack of dawn and thought I hadn't lost, but I just went to input my weight into the tracker and realised I did lose! I lost 1lb. So that makes 8lb so far in 2 weeks! People are saying I look thinner but I'm not sure if that is actually the case or not!

iwantgin · 15/10/2014 11:17

Some good losses so far then.

;)

bshree08 · 16/10/2014 10:31

second week end I have lost around 13lbs.... Yay!!!!

How did you spend your weekly allowance of 49 ProPoints values last week?
weekend treat in restaurant Wink, although i had control over the portions what I ate.

Have you started any exercise or new activity?
I have been walking and jogging at least 60 minutes daily (pedometer) and my goal is around 10000 steps. But i manage to reach 7800-8350 max Sad. But determined to go around 10,000.

What do enjoy about your meetings?
I have not attended any meetings, I think the online tools, my energy tracker(ww app) and my hubby motivation kicks in a lot.

What Weight Watchers tools have you found most useful online?
My weight tracker, simple start meals and measuring the food you are eating is really helpful to keep your goal on track.

Have you been using the Weight Watchers App? If so, do you like it?
Yes I have been using the wwapp, its nice gives me motivation and it keeps on controlling what I eat.

Have you discovered any new foods / tried any new recipes?
I tried most of simple start recipes with a little bit of my variation Wink, i'm going stick to it

iwantgin · 16/10/2014 11:00

Wow bshree that is fantastic!!!

BellaVida · 16/10/2014 11:40

Week 3 weigh in and I have lost another 3 lbs, so 9 lbs total so far! Very pleased, as I have not felt hungry and have been able to still have my treats.

Just seen I should check if I have been charged....

ihatethecold · 16/10/2014 12:34

Well done you lot.
That's really great.
