UK Mumsnetters needed to test TomTom’s top Sat Nav - the GO 5000 worth £259.99 NOW CLOSED

We have been asked by the team at TomTom to find 100 UK MNers to try TomTom GO 5000.

We're looking for Mumsnetters who are regular drivers.

TomTom says: "We all know that traffic jams can take seconds to build up and then last for hours. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting in a jam or in slow moving traffic and not knowing how long you will be there. Especially, when your time is tight and you have children to pick up or drop off.

TomTom satnavs know the precise traffic situation on most UK roads at all times, in real time. The satnav you’ll be given to test is a “live device,” this means it is constantly searching every possible route option to find you the fastest route available. So, if the traffic situation suddenly gets bad on your “normal” route, it will automatically search other options to find a new, faster route and give you a new arrive time."

If selected, you'll be sent the TomTom GO 5000 to try for a few weeks and so long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the product.

If selected, you will be sent the TomTom GO 5000 at the end of September, and asked to try it for two weeks. You will then need to try it and add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the testing period, we’d also like you to post a review on the Mumsnet review pages and fill in a short survey. In order to keep the product, you would need to add your feedback by the 26th of October, so please only apply if you are able to do this.

Please also note that TomTom may use your anonymous feedback comments on their website and social media channels, as well as elsewhere.

If you'd like to take part, please add your details here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/RKBRB3K

We will be in touch with selected MNers ASAP.

Thanks and good luck!

I know those selected have met with the criteria but I am quietly confident ( or delusional ) that I have been selected today because it's my birthday. What a great day this has turned out to be.

Chocolates, a new coffee mug AND a brand new TomTom GrinGrin

TequilaMockinBird · 01/10/2014 21:46

Grin Happy Birthday Durham, from a fellow NorthEasterner! If I see someone driving round Durham following their new swishy satnav, I'll give you a wave (although I'll be following mine too so may not see you Grin)

IAmAPaleontologist · 01/10/2014 21:56

Happy birthday Smile

we can have a massive North East race! i shall challenge mine to get me from uni to home without the hideous traffic on the coast road (how does that road manage to be nose to tail no matter what time of day it is? )

i could even see which way to uni actually is quickest. Some go along the a19, some the a1 and off at the angel. i go the back roads but that means turning left over the Tyne Bridge which is never a good idea.

Am rather excited.

and also a little disturbed at the extent of my excitement.

TequilaMockinBird · 01/10/2014 22:01

I live just off the coast road, and to get to my office I have to use coast road/central motorway/Tyne bridge so know your pain! I can't wait to be able to beat all the traffic at 8am in the morning Grin

Floralnomad · 01/10/2014 22:01

Thanks MN , I am really looking forward to testing this out , my DH was very impressed when I told him this evening . I shall take it to london and the M25 to test it out in heavy traffic!

IAmAPaleontologist · 01/10/2014 22:06

uni on coach Lane. live West of Durham so my choices are going Stanley way or having to go either into Durham and out again to the a1 or in as far as the a167 to the a1. Except that even if i leave early by the time i get to the a1 it is heaving because it takes me so long to get there. so instead i leave at 6.20 to beat the traffic and end up in the library at 7 Hmm .

Sadly I'm not sure the sat nav will be able to solve that problem.

i drove home at 2pm the other day and it took half an hour to get along coast road from coach Lane to joining the a167. Why? hate that road. But bloody love the bit the bit where the Consett Road runs alongside the a1 and i can drive past the poor suckers sitting there not moving Grin .

TequilaMockinBird · 01/10/2014 22:10
Grin

The coast road is the same in both directions, hate that road!

PolyesterBride · 01/10/2014 22:33

Didn't anyone else vote for marge Simpson?!

missorinoco · 01/10/2014 22:49

Nooooooooooooo. I didn't get one.
I always like the idea of John Cleese shouting "Go right, right I said!" Was he an option?

Enjoy.

titchypumpkin · 01/10/2014 22:51

I voted for Brian Blessed :-) Sooooooo excited!!

ChippingInLatteLover · 01/10/2014 22:51

Thank you :)

Looking forward to giving it a whirl!!

I can't decide which voice to choose though, so I thought I'd see if you all confirmed my suspicions - and you have, Stephen Fry. He's OK, but I'm torn between John Clease & Bugs Bunny Grin

ChippingInLatteLover · 01/10/2014 22:53

Bugs Bunny won Grin

But suspect we'll end up with SF!

Oh & whoever it was that felt they might would need to biff it out the window if it was SF yes, there's a standard voice and you can download others :)

TheHandmadeStaleBread · 01/10/2014 22:54

Ooooooh I'm in! No more shall the legendarily horrific oxford traffic reduce me to silent screaming!

ChippingInLatteLover · 01/10/2014 22:54

ilovemonstersinc so so pleased you got one!! Wine

MimsyBorogroves · 01/10/2014 23:42

I voted for Brian Blessed to make DH happy and for the amusement of DS2, who would love to be guided by Grampy Rabbit.

KraggleLego · 02/10/2014 06:42

Yaaay I got picked, I plan on giving this a real test in the next few weeks. The crappy Garmin we have is going in the bin!.

DurhamDurham · 02/10/2014 07:09

I live outside Durham and work in West of Gateshead near Rowlands Gill. I will do anything to stay off the A1 so try to find all sorts of weird routes to my work appointments. This TomTom will be so useful as apparently it just keeps recalculating your route so the chances of me getting lost should be close to zero!!

I shall give a friendly wave to other cars using their TomTom in the hope that it's my fellow North Eastern Mumsnetters Grin

marymouse · 02/10/2014 08:28

yay I'm in! Grin
voted for Brian blessed!

lougle · 02/10/2014 10:10

MNHQ, do you pick at random or do you get told criteria, such as location, or lifestyle, etc? How much bearing does the 'why do you want to test this' question have on selection?

If it's a case of TSSDNCOP, that's fine. I'm just curious. Smile

CMP69 · 02/10/2014 13:02

Durham, IAmAPalenotologist and Tequila we will have the NE covered between us. I work in North Tyneside and Northumberland. Used to do N Tyneside to Gateshead on the bastard coast road so I know your pain. I'm most looking forward to avoiding Moor Farm roundabout on the A19 at rush hourAngry

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 02/10/2014 13:23

I'm in Darlington so have that area of the NE covered too

TheHandmadeStaleBread · 02/10/2014 13:26

I spent 100 minutes this morning travelling 16.8 miles. I CANNOT WAIT to get my mitts on this to see if it can make things better...

PolyesterBride · 02/10/2014 22:24

I was wondering that too lougle - whether they just pick randomly or need a spread of locations, ages etc.

ilovemonstersinc · 03/10/2014 09:08

Mnhq when will we get them Grin hopefully planning to take kids out on Sunday as it's Eid.

HeySoulSister · 03/10/2014 09:14

Eid? Is that when my neighbour brings yummy food round? That time of year already?

Hope we get ours soon too, I'm venturing up to my dads soon. Scary times
