UK Mumsnetters needed to test TomTom’s top Sat Nav - the GO 5000 worth £259.99 NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 15/09/2014 13:38

We have been asked by the team at TomTom to find 100 UK MNers to try TomTom GO 5000.

We're looking for Mumsnetters who are regular drivers.

TomTom says: "We all know that traffic jams can take seconds to build up and then last for hours. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting in a jam or in slow moving traffic and not knowing how long you will be there. Especially, when your time is tight and you have children to pick up or drop off.

TomTom satnavs know the precise traffic situation on most UK roads at all times, in real time. The satnav you’ll be given to test is a “live device,” this means it is constantly searching every possible route option to find you the fastest route available. So, if the traffic situation suddenly gets bad on your “normal” route, it will automatically search other options to find a new, faster route and give you a new arrive time."

If selected, you'll be sent the TomTom GO 5000 to try for a few weeks and so long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the product.

If selected, you will be sent the TomTom GO 5000 at the end of September, and asked to try it for two weeks. You will then need to try it and add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the testing period, we’d also like you to post a review on the Mumsnet review pages and fill in a short survey. In order to keep the product, you would need to add your feedback by the 26th of October, so please only apply if you are able to do this.

Please also note that TomTom may use your anonymous feedback comments on their website and social media channels, as well as elsewhere.

If you'd like to take part, please add your details here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/RKBRB3K

We will be in touch with selected MNers ASAP.

Thanks and good luck!

Yep. The 'small' eid was 2months ago (after fasting) and big eid on sunday. Today is Hajj- holy pilgrimage. If you have sky go on to the international section and its on live. You wont believe the amount of people there.

Has anyone had any more contact since the initial email? I'm wondering if I've missed something.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 04/10/2014 11:54

No nothing, I'm really hoping it arrives Monday morning as we're off for a weeks holiday in uk with lots of driving involved!

ChippingInLatteLover · 04/10/2014 11:57

No, nothing since the 'You're In' email. But that was only Wednesday, give them a break Grin

georgie22 · 04/10/2014 12:07

I know - I'm impatient!! Thought the initial email made it sound like we would hear something v soon!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 04/10/2014 12:19

I had a parcel today and got all excited - but it was a sample of shampoo. What a let down Grin

CMP69 · 04/10/2014 12:47

Our postie rang the bell this morning too. Mug for DM birthday from DS Sad I want a new toy!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/10/2014 14:34

Really hoped it would be here today. Can't wait to get started!

ChippingInLatteLover · 04/10/2014 16:21

They said they would be in touch via email again before they were delivered.

nicename · 04/10/2014 16:29

Who chose a voice? They all sounded rather irritating. Can you imagine?

Yoda 'at the traffic light next... Turn by the right, you will hmmmm?'

Darth Vader 'at the next snnnnnnok junction sluuuuuurch take the second snnnnnnnnnkkkkk turn

Brian Blessed 'TURN NOW NOOOOWWWWWWW!!!'

Bert n Ernie (to the tune of 'if yor happy and you know it' 'if the light is all in red, make a stop! If it winks and blinks a lot, make a stop! If its shiny new and green, take a left and go to Sheen, hehehehehehe'.

ilovemonstersinc · 04/10/2014 16:30

Ive asked mnhq...

Spirael · 06/10/2014 10:45

Ugh, thanks to crazy traffic I spent an hour making a 5 mile journey back home after dropping DH at work this morning, with DD2 wailing in the back the whole time. Can't wait to get the TomTom and see how it's going to save my sanity!

Hopefully it'll arrive before I have to do another journey like that one. Better yet, hopefully it'll arrive before next weekend when I have to venture into the heart of a big city I am completely unfamiliar with driving in. Confused

IAmAPaleontologist · 06/10/2014 11:02

How does it actually work? How does it know where there is traffic? If I'm about to turn right out of work car park into standing traffic will it automatically yell at me to turn the other way and take me on some as yet unknown adventure through to another route?

SophieBarringtonWard · 06/10/2014 13:14

Looking forward to TomTom coming home to me!

ChippingInLatteLover · 06/10/2014 13:27

ilove don't you think that's a tad rude - a bit like asking where your birthday present is? Confused

nicename I'm not sure. What MN said and what the PDF sheet said were a bit different, so I guess we'll just wait and see. You can set it to 'normal boring voice' anyway and you can pay to download other voices if you want to. I chose Bugs Bunny, but I think I was the only one :) I'd like to see the result of the poll Grin

ChippingInLatteLover · 06/10/2014 13:28

IAMA - I love it when they start hyperventilating when you aren't following their directions Grin We had a built in one on our last holiday rental - I thought it was going to explode Grin

MimsyBorogroves · 06/10/2014 16:02

SO looking forward to getting mine. My old Garmin never got stressed when I didn't follow "her" instructions. She just crashed and the screen said "carry on" which always seemed fairly sarcastic to me.

Cow.

NoMoreDelays · 06/10/2014 17:09

How does it work? Does it plug into the cigarette lighter? And where in the car does it go?
Do we leave in out when parked or is it a security risk?

nicename · 06/10/2014 17:42

I do hope it comes this week. We have to criss cross london a couple of times at the weekend right through the parks marathon route. Its going to be hellish!

I think I'd like the Galaxy Bunny voice for mine. Very soothing (and reminds me of chocolate).

nicename · 06/10/2014 17:48

Does it really get all stressy if you don't follow duirections? Prepare for ours to explode then if DH is driving. He is notorious for not following explicit directions.

Me 'keep driving straight on this road. We NEED to keep on this road. No turnoffs for at least an hour. Ok? Straight road. No turn offf. None. Not until I say. I will warn you.'

I usually give it half a mile before we have turned off some dodgy road with no hope of getting back on track, as he says 'well, where ae we now? What road was that?'. And will he slow down? Nooooo.

Either that or he asks where we are - I cosult map or street sign and tell him. He then argues that I am wrong.

This gadget might save his life you know...

ilovemonstersinc · 06/10/2014 19:00

Chipping not at all. I want to know so I can make sure someone is home or is that not ok?

Blondieminx · 06/10/2014 20:27

I've voted for Bert & Ernie. Child of the 80's through and through! I don't want a shouty bloke a la John Cleese in full tree/car thrashing mode or Brian Blessed thundering at me! I'd love to see the survey results too!

MimsyBorogroves · 07/10/2014 09:30

Oooh, I just got a text to say a package will be delivered tomorrow!

SophieBarringtonWard · 07/10/2014 09:32

Me too Mimsy

WeAreEternal · 07/10/2014 09:34

I've just had a text message from WIdgetUK saying,
"Your order will be delivered 8 Oct by Interlink.
Not going to be in? Click XXX to leave safe, with neighbour, change day."

I'm not expecting any other parcels (except some love2shop vouchers from another MN product test) so this could be it.

Has anyone else had this text message?
