NOW CLOSED: Lyclear head lice Treatment Shampoo: Feedback thread: now with final questions added

KatieBMumsnet · 30/08/2013 16:07

This thread is for the 100 unfortunate MNers who have recently experienced head lice and trialled Lyclear Treatment Shampoo.

Here's what Lyclear have to say about their product, "Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is and is as easy to use as washing hair. (1) The unique double action formula suffocates and dehydrates head lice and their eggs and is free from insecticides. The shampoo acts in a purely physical manner, ensuring the head lice do not become resistant to the treatment."

Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age. Note: You should only use Lyclear Treatment Shampoo if you have live head lice. Do not use if allergic to any of the ingredients.*

So if you're a tester we'd like you to add feedback to this thread at least twice: Once when you first use the shampoo and once again after the second application (7 days after the first).

Lyclear says after checking the hair for lice with the fine toothed comb enclosed you should evenly apply the shampoo to dry hair, massaging from root to tip, paying particular attention to the neck and behind the ears. Leave on for 10 minutes then wash and rinse the hair thoroughly. Remove dead head lice and eggs with the fine toothed comb, thoroughly cleaning after use. Repeat the treatment after 7 days.

Please note your comments may be used by Lyclear in marketing material, on their website and possibly elsewhere.

So for your first feedback post please share:

Firstly about head lice:

  1. Who in your family is being treated for head lice? Please include gender and age
  2. Is this the first time they've had head lice? If no, how many times have they had head lice?
  3. What treatments have you tried in the past?

Secondly about Lyclear Treatment Shampoo:
  1. How easy did you find using the fine toothed comb?
  2. How did Lyclear Treatment Shampoo compare to other treatments you've used in the past? Please note Lyclear is clinically proven to kill 100% of head lice after the second treatment is complete. For each of the following statements please say if Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was better, about the same or worse than other treatments you may have used:

a. Effective at removing most head lice and eggs
b. Ease of use
c. Convenience
d. Greasiness of treatment
e. Ease of washing out treatment
  1. Please provide more details if you felt Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was worse than previous treatments for any of the above:
  2. Did you like the fragrance or smell of Lyclear Treatment Shampoo?
  3. Any other comments on initial use?
  4. Did your child like the shampoo? Please say what they thought

All selected testers who add at least two lots of feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win £250 worth of Love2Shop vouchers.

Thanks and good luck (with everything)

Quick update, DD2 was lice free when combed with conditioner last night. DD1 had 3 but they were very much dead!
So I'm very happy with that. Just hope they stay clear for a while!

First treatment on D's 10 who has had head lice since time began SadAngry

went onto the hair fine, loved the nozzle which meant it got to the roots. used the comb to make sure it was coating all the hair and caught 4 live lice.

didn't find it any more greasy than anything else we have used in the past but it def smelled much nicer Smile

It did drip a bit during the 10 main wait but a towel solved that.

Really impressed with how easily it washed out!

combed through hair after and found another 2 adults and countless baby lice - all dead thank goodness.

After reading some of the other feedback I did go through his hair again with the nitty gritty comb but didn't find any thing else.

I'm happy so far Grin

None of the above, it didn't get rid of all the head lice, combing before and after the application took twice as long as wet combing, and although it didn't look greasy on the head, I was really greasy to use.

  1. Did you find that Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was effective at killing all head lice and their eggs after the second treatment? We used the nitty gritty after second application and that got them all out.
  2. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain

About the same, works OK but doesn't get all, no miracle cure.
  1. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) Please explain

No, way to expensive, bottle of tea tree conditioner is much cheaper.
  1. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain

No
  1. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment?

Pop it in the bin, buy a nitty gritty and bulk buy conditioner

A shame, as I really hoped it would be the miracle we crave.

  4. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain I would recommend but advise very expensive

yes we did
  1. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain

I found that any lice that were removed after the treatment had been used were dead, as opposed to still having some live ones after using a different treatment previously

  1. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) Please explain

I would if I had sufficient funds, unfortunately £14.99 is a little bit pricey, even when compared to other products. I prefer using this but don't always have the spare cash and would then choose a cheaper treatment

  1. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain

yes as it is easy o use, really easy to wash out and is effective

  1. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Again no, it did kill a lot of lice and eggs. But I still had to Go through there hair with a nitty gritty comb. To remove everything.

right second treatment feedback -

found 4 adult lice but only a couple if baby lice this time after treating which makes me think ds is collecting them at school Angry

again easy treatment and I will def use again if we have an infestation. will also carry on with the combing and conditioning as well and use the lyclear as a last resort as the other method is a lot cheaper! Mainly because there are 6 in our household and it all gets rather expensive.

I will recommend to other people tho.

I would be more interested if there were different sized bottles eg 2 people treatments or 4 especially if the bigger bottles worked out cheaper per treatment Smile

thank you for letting me trial the product - ds has def had some relief from his ''little problem'' Grin

I found more nits and eggs second time round so not effective. My kids and me don't really like any of the nit shampoo's, even with a towel on there shoulders it drips every wear. Also its greasy.

  1. Did you find that Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was effective at killing all head lice and their eggs after the second treatment? No, mullered them with conditioner and nitty grit.
  2. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain

  1. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) Please explain

  1. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain

OK, second feedback:

  1. Overall how did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? Which of the following words would you use?

Please copy any relevant answers that apply in your post and add any additional comments
a. Effective - not 100%
b. Convenient - as convenient as any other treatment I've used
c. Easy-to-use - as above
d. Hassle-free - as above
e. Non-greasy - this is a greasy product which requires several shampoos to fully remove

  1. Did you find that Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was effective at killing all head lice and their eggs after the second treatment? not 100%. There were loads of lice still there after the first treatment and there are already a few crawling around several days after the second treatment
  2. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain no, because it has not rid my daughter of headlice.
  3. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) Please explain no, because it is not as effective as treatments I've used previously. If it was effective and less greasy I would happily pay the RRP
  4. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain no for reasons above
  5. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment?

apply outside as it is v greasy. Also the comb provided is not effective is use a different one that really does get out all the lice and eggs.

Sorry for the stunning delay! I broke my leg and as my other half is recovering from Meningitis and we've 7 children, the world went insane and I completely forgot!!!
Thankfully I had written everything in my diary, so I've notes to go on!

  1. Overall how did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? Which of the following words would you use?

a. Effective - yes, very
b. Convenient - yes
c. Easy-to-use - yes, very
d. Hassle-free - yes
e. Non-greasy - medium

  1. Did you find that Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was effective at killing all head lice and their eggs after the second treatment? It certainly appears so as we are completely lice free at the moment as far as I'm aware. My 15 year old was a particular concern as he has loads of very long hair and obviously isn't ken on Mum combing through so much, but he has no lice now.
  2. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? We've 7 children aged from 19-3, we've had headlice here many many times. I did find the Lyclear was more effective, it really does seem to have caught all of the lice, which is not something I've particularly found in the past.
  3. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) I think I would after trying repeated combing. I've spent hundreds on shampoos over the years and if I wanted to simply be rid of lice, with the quickest and least time-consuming method, I'd buy Lyclear.
  4. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? I would. I think I'd always recommend repeated combing, but I'm happy enough with Lyclear that I'd recommend it to someone who was stressed or short on time.
  5. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment? Use alongside combing through with the comb definitely. Set aside a time and day that suits, and repeat the treatment strictly a week later, alongside a re-combing. Check again a week afterwards.

Once again sorry for the delay and thank you for letting me take part in the trial!

  1. Did you find that Lyclear Treatment Shampoo was effective at killing all head lice and their eggs after the second treatment?

Unfortunately not - the DC have itchy heads again :(
  1. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain

I found it less effective tbh, I think the week between the two treatments was too long as it allowed the cycle to develop of eggs hatching etc.
  1. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? (RRP £14.99) Please explain

£14.99 is shockingly expensive! I wouldn't buy it again as it didn't work for us. If I was going to spend £14.99 I would buy something like Hedrin Once to totally blitz the DC's hair. It seems like nit combs and conditioner work as well, if not better than Lyclear and are much cheaper.
  1. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people? Please explain

No sorry. Good marketing campaign but the product does not live up to the hype.
  1. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment?

If I used Lyclear again I would use a nitty gritty comb rather than the one supplied, and I would also use the nit comb + conditioner every other day between the two Lyclear treatments.

MNHQ - just wondering if the manufacturers of Lyclear wanted to comment, given that a lot of the 2nd reviews basically state that the product didn't work. Did we all do something wrong? Could the product be improved?
