This thread is for the 100 unfortunate MNers who have recently experienced head lice and trialled Lyclear Treatment Shampoo.

Here's what Lyclear have to say about their product, "Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is and is as easy to use as washing hair. (1) The unique double action formula suffocates and dehydrates head lice and their eggs and is free from insecticides. The shampoo acts in a purely physical manner, ensuring the head lice do not become resistant to the treatment."

Lyclear Treatment Shampoo is suitable for adults and children over 2 years of age. Note: You should only use Lyclear Treatment Shampoo if you have live head lice. Do not use if allergic to any of the ingredients.*

So if you're a tester we'd like you to add feedback to this thread at least twice: Once when you first use the shampoo and once again after the second application (7 days after the first).

Lyclear says after checking the hair for lice with the fine toothed comb enclosed you should evenly apply the shampoo to dry hair, massaging from root to tip, paying particular attention to the neck and behind the ears. Leave on for 10 minutes then wash and rinse the hair thoroughly. Remove dead head lice and eggs with the fine toothed comb, thoroughly cleaning after use. Repeat the treatment after 7 days.

I'd recommend using a different comb, I ended up using the nitty gritty comb as I found the teeth too far apart on the one that came with the shampoo and definitely make sure you use a towel over shoulders as it does tend to run everywhere!

I would buy it if wet-combing wasn't working, but the price would put me off rushing out to get some straight away.

Yes, again, if wet-combing had failed first.

Make sure the hair and scalp are properly covered, leave on for the full amount of time, and make sure that the second application is completed.

(RRP £14.99) Please explain I would resent the price as my dd has long, thick ringlets so we only got 2 applications out of a bottle, therefore it would be an expensive treatment. 5. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment? Follow the instructions to the letter. Use more product than perhaps you think you need!!

1, Effective and easy to use
2, I did not find any live nits after the first treatment and treated again a week later and would expect not to find any now.
3, I found it more effective than the other treatments that I have used.
4, I may use it although I found the price quite off putting I would not be able to afford it every time my children get nits.
5, Again I found the product worked well but I would be nervous about recommending something so expensive.
6, Follow the instructions to the letter, use the comb carefully and repeat a week later!

After the second treatment, we found several live baby lice but no adults. I don’t think it’s really possible for a treatment to ‘kill’ the eggs. My DD’s hair is littered with empty egg ‘cases’, which I’m fighting a losing battle to remove. Like the live egg cases, the only way to remove them is to slide each one individually off the hair shaft. Very time-consuming: it would take weeks to remove all of them. After the second treatment, there were still plenty of ‘live’ (dark coloured) egg cases left in her hair as well.

It’s difficult to say whether it was more effective than previous treatments. It’s certainly easier to use and wash out, but there are still eggs (which if left will hatch into live lice and the cycle will continue).

I think it’s expensive. It works well for killing the live nits but doesn’t ‘kill’ the eggs. I’m not convinced it works any better than repeated conditioning and combing.

Yes for killing live lice. No for getting rid of/killing eggs. Sadly this job has to be done manually.

Repeat a third time (we just did that and haven’t found any live lice, although the eggs remain and will do so until I find the time to slide every last one off individually).

I wasn't sure if I should have done the 2nd treatment early. Neither DS or I have had any further signs of nits since the 2nd application

Yes, hardly anything left after the first treatment, just a couple of eggs on DS, DH had nothing.

Yes, as there were no live lice after treatment whereas with others there have still been runners.

Yes I think so. It goes a long way and was much gentler on hair and scalp than other treatments we have used. There were no complaints of stinging and it didn't make the hair dry and frizzy. In fact, DS looks better than normal after treatment, very soft and shiny!

If anyone asked, yes. It doesn't stink, doesn't wreck your hair and works very well, what's not to recommend?

It goes a long way so you don't have to squirt it all over the place, there should be enough to do a whole family on average.

My only comment to add would be to echo a PP in that 2 separate bottles with First Application and Second Application would definitely make it easier to judge how much to use. I too was over enthusiastic in my first application and then had to eek out the second.

It has certainly felt more effective up to this point-Just to note that I used my own Nitty Gritty comb for both applications as I felt the one supplied didn't have as close together teeth

Yes I think I would in spite of the price. I felt it was easy to use with an inoffensive smell compared to other lice treatments and most importantly, my children didn't moan

Convenient!! Not having to leave it on overnight is very handy, although it was very drying on my hair. Very easy to use.

All of them. We're nit free for the first time in ages!

I combed every night between treatments and only found eggs & a couple of dead lice. I've found nothing so far since, so fingers crossed we're clear. I deliberately didn't give feed back for a while after the second treatment to allow any eggs time to hatch, but I've found nothing,

Definitely - we've used other products before that haven't worked, but this has. Other products just haven't been as effective - they've killed some, but not all and combing which is time consuming (and hurts my back!) is the only way to keep on top of them.

4. If your child or someone in your family caught head lice again would you buy Lyclear Treatment Shampoo? Yep - it's more expensive than other treatents, but worth it. I wouldn't even mind if it was tricky to use or really greasy so long as it worked, but it wasn't either.

5. Would you recommend Lyclear Treatment Shampoo to other people?
Yep - it works where others haven't.

I didn't find the comb that came with the treatment much use - A nitty gritty was very helpful instead.

Second feedback:

   Non-greasy - No. Thought it was quite oily
   Hassle free - No head lice treatment is hassle free in my opinion!.

2. It was ok to use and worked, although my son didn't have a bad case of lice. Couldn't find any after the first treatment so I'm confident it sorted it after the second.

3. I found it to be about the same as others.

4. I would if I really had to but I think its very expensive.

5. Yes I would recommend it, although I haven't had a lot of experience with head lice and various treatments.

Kind of effective - I'd quibble with it being 100% effective as that wasn't my experience, but all the other phrases would fit.

Most, not all, but that was with DD who has very long thick curly hair which is a pita to treat. Boys were completely clear.

Yes, I think so as it did the job and was faiely easy to use. The comb should be better though,especially for that price!

It was more effective the first treatment bit as above, failed to kill lice the 2nd time.

Possibly! After 1s treatment I would have said yes 100% would use again but after failed 2nd use, I'm now not so sure.

Yes, I think I would.

Use a better comb! The nitty gritty is better at removing lice than the one supplied.

a. Effective Yes it did clear the lice but ater 2 applications as there were a few left over after the first
b. Convenient Yes, I liked the speed of the treatment process and not having to wait for hours
c. Easy-to-use Yes, it was easy to use but messy
d. Hassle-free Again, the mess was irritating, but worth it
e. Non-greasy I did feel it was greasy and didn't like the feel of it, but my DD didn't mind.

2. If you have treated head lice before, did you find Lyclear Treatment Shampoo more effective than previous treatments? Please explain I have used wet combing before and it was definitely quicker and easier than this, especially with a 2 year old.

(RRP £14.99) Please explain I would consider it, but it is expensive and I think it wouldn't be enough to cover my other older DD's very long hair. It would then be too expensive and isn't available on prescription in our area.

5. What are your top tips for getting the most out of the treatment? Make sure you really soak the hair and get straight to the roots in the key areas. Repeat the treatment as instructions.

It is all of these things - definitely the best treatment I have used so far. It was not completely non-greasy though - both my daughters' hair looked greasy and lank after treating - mine was OK as I used the shower, but it was not so easy to get out in a bath situation - I would use fresh water in jugs or something in future.

Yes - more effective - the thicker lather I think seemed good at making sure no lice escaped the treatment ingredients. It also is better-smelling, and seemed to leave my daughters itch-free pretty much straight away.

(RRP £14.99) Please explain I would by it as experience suggests to me that there is no point trying anything cheaper, and the current conditioner-only-nitty-gritty-comb trend hasn't worked as well for us.

?? Not sure - use in the bath - ten minutes' play time then rinsing, is the easiest thing to do - the first time I tried it before getting it in the bath, and that was messier.
