This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been trying out the new 2in1 recipe mixes from Schwartz.

Here's what they say: "The new 2in1 range offers two easy to use recipe mix sachets in one handy pack: one sachet flavours the main dish whilst the other contains a seasoning for a complementary side dish or topping. With five different varieties to choose from, and an easy recipe on the back of each pack, this is a great way to try out new dishes or transform an existing family favourite from ordinary to special."

Mumsnetters have been trying the following recipe mixes:

Below are some questions for you to answer but please do feel free to add any other comments you may also have. Pasta bake.

0 out of 5.

Oh god, the horror. It was so so awful. So bland. Just vile. No-one liked it, 90% went in the bin! And I try to NEVER waste food.

It was very easy to use.

Followed the recipe exactly.

Not easier. Could have made a homemade version in not much more time and mine would have actually been eaten!

No. It was a disaster.

Hated it big time.

OvO · 10/07/2013 21:12

Southern style chicken bites.

2.5 out of 5.

It was ok. DH, my 8y old DS and I thought they were nice enough. Nothing special but ok. My 5y old scoffed all his! He would be the only one willing to eat them again. No one liked the dip.

Very easy to make, but not enough coating in the pack.

Followed recipe exactly.

No easier than making homemade.

Might buy this again for my 5 year old. He hardly eats at all so if I have to buy this to get some chicken onto him I will.

Overall we didn't like his much.

Last night we did the garlic & thyme roast chicken and crispy roast potatoes. We also had carrots & green beans. The aroma of the chicken & potatoes roasting as i brought the kids home from school. We all enjoyed this and would use this one again. Looking forward to trying the last two packets!

  • Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try?
  • Southern style crunchy chicken bites + BBQ dip
  • Garlic & herb crunchy chicken bites + cheese & chive dip
  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest)
1 / 5
  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?
The southern style was liked better. Garlic and Herb not eaten. I was quite alarmed by the bright orange look of the southern style mix- looking on the back of the pack the colour came from the tumeric! The garlic and herb has a dry bitter texture, this mix may have tasted better pan fried in olive oil. But that said, I did like the fact these mixes were meant for oven baking.
  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?
Very easy
  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?
Followed as per pack
  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?
A quick way to change up chicken if we had liked the product.
  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would buy these but would try others
  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?
  • sorry...hated it!

Southern style crunchy chicken bites & BBQ dip
Rated 4/5
All three of my dcs (1, 7 & 10) enjoyed the chicken. My dd 10 who only ever has ketchup liked the dip as it had a ketchup base. Ds 1 enjoyed dipping his chicken but wasnt keen on eating the dip & ds 7 doesn't do any sauces.
I found it very easy to use.
I followed the recipe & it worked well.
It did make mealtime easier as it was straight forward & easy to follow & required very little thought or effort.
I loved it & would say my dc liked it.

Squiglettsmummy2bx · 11/07/2013 11:36

I followed the recipe & found it quick & easy to follow.
I would buy this again.
We all loved this one.

My dcs quite liked the chicken but none of them liked the dip at all.
Very easy.
I followed the recipe.
I wouldn't buy this one again as no one ate the dip.
Hated the dip but liked the chicken

Garlic & thyme roast chicken and crispy roast potatoes...

  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest)

5

  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?

Not much comment on the chicken but DD (3) said the potatoes were the tastiest thing she'd ever had :)

  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?

Very easy

  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?

Only thing added was a pierced lemon inside the chicken.

  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?

With this one I wouldn't say it made it easier, it didnt make it any harder or more complicated and certainly made it tastier.

  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, as it made our normal Sunday roast a bit more special.

  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?

Loved it.

TerraNotSoFirma · 11/07/2013 14:07

Garlic and herb crunchy chicken bites with cheese and chive dip.

  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest)
2.5 (an average....chicken = 5 dip = 0)
  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?

LOVED the chicken, cleared their plates and ate some of mine.
Did not like the dip at all.

  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?

I generally do packet mix casseroles, usually in the slow cooker. So this was a little more prep than usual for me, with the egg coating and dipping.
(Worth it though)

  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?

Followed the packet instructions.

  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?

Not easier but tastier, but if you usually cook from scratch involving a lot of prep, I can see that these would make mealtimes easier.

  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes as the children rarely clear their plates, I would substitute the dip for something else though.

  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?

Loved the chicken, disliked the dip ( hated would be a bit strong)

  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?

Very easy

  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?

I did the tuna and sweetcorn version (we were a bit fed up of chicken by this point) :)

  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, to see if I preferred it with the chicken and peppers.

  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, even if I'm not too keen on it, the children liked it.

  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?

Liked.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this, have been away on holiday!
I have tried the roast chicken and roast potatoes.
Tbh, I wouldn't buy it, as I didn't think a lovely roast chicken needs it! I would give it 2/5.
The flavour was fine for us and the DCs.
Very easy to use.
I followed the recipe.
It didn't make the meal any easier, because all the usual things still needed to be done. Eg. It didn't save on washing up, or time, it was just a bit different.
Overall, it was ok.

2 in 1 Mediterranean Chicken Pasta + Cheesy Crumb Topping

3 out of 5 rating

The overall flavour was very bland. I would add garlic and onion to the chicken and extra seasoning.

It was very easy to use and I followed the recipe on the packet.

I would say that the 2in1 recipe made mealtime easier, as it only requires a few ingredients, and is easy & quick to prepare.

Yes, I would buy Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future.

I liked the 2in1 recipe mix, but would add some seasoning, garlic and onions for added flavour.

babsmam · 11/07/2013 15:53

Chicken tikka and mint cucumber ratio

4/5 the tikka it's were lovely. The cucumber stuff on its own was not that nice but strangly seemed to o well with the tikka.

Followed the pack, didn't deviate. Left it to marinade all day.

Liked by all. Would buy again.

Hacko1 · 11/07/2013 21:31

Med chicken and pasta, wasn't too keen on this and seemed a lot more fussing than making pasta from fresh, the herb crumbs tasted nice, didn't go down a huge hit, wouldn't buy this one again something I'd prob keep on the cupboard until the packet expired then throw away. Thumbs down!

Lukasmummy · 11/07/2013 22:25

Sorry this is late, but my kids have been sick and we haven't really felt like cooking/eating much apart from cereal, toast and plain pasta or rice.

Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try? - I tried the Garlic & herb crunchy chicken bites + cheese & chive dip. We only tried the chicken part the kids refused to even entertain tasting the dip.

How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest). We had a little accident and burnt it a bit, but despite that this was still a hit with 4 out of the 5 of us in the house. I would probably rate it 3 out of 5 as we ate it, but could definitely be upgraded to a 4 if we paid a little more attention when cooking it next time.

What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product? Myself and my husband really enjoyed this, although I think he would have liked a little more heat. Our 10 year old enjoyed it the most, closely followed by the baby (she's almost 2). Our 4 year old was having one of his moods and refused to try it, but since he is hit and miss over eating plain chicken nuggets it doesn't say anything about the product we tested.

How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use? My husband cooked it but he said it was really simple and easy to follow, but we need to adjust the cooking time a little next time and pay closer attention.

Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients? We followed the recipe on the packet except for leaving out the dip. We didn't actually bother to serve it with anything else, it just became a quick after school snack when we had some chicken mini fillets to use up.

Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not? I think this one is a little bit fiddly for our usual mealtimes. We would usually save something that had multiple steps to prepare it for a weekend or my husbands day off. With his work shifts we often eat late and food has to be as simple and quick as possible.

Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? I really like the concept of these meals, and it's always nice to try new flavours and find something the kids enjoy. Although since we only used half of it I would probably look for seasonings or cook in the bag meals rather than this 2in1 mix in the future unless it was on promotion in my local supermarket.

Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it? I would say that we liked it, I could see it being something we might do for a party as finger food or a snack rather than a main meal.
