This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been trying out the new 2in1 recipe mixes from Schwartz.

Here's what they say: "The new 2in1 range offers two easy to use recipe mix sachets in one handy pack: one sachet flavours the main dish whilst the other contains a seasoning for a complementary side dish or topping. With five different varieties to choose from, and an easy recipe on the back of each pack, this is a great way to try out new dishes or transform an existing family favourite from ordinary to special."

Mumsnetters have been trying the following recipe mixes:

Below are some questions for you to answer but please do feel free to add any other comments you may also have. We'd like you to post at least 3 sets of feedback - answering the same questions for each recipe mix you try. Please also upload any pictures you take of your creations. Third one for me!

  • Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try?

Garlic and Herb Crunchy Chicken Bites + Cheese & Chive Dip

  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest)

3

  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?

I actually quite liked both. They liked the chicken a lot, but not the dip at all.

  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?

Very easy indeed.

  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?

I followed the recipe exactly for the chicken but ran out of the breadcrumb mix. For the dip, I only added half of the recipe mix, as I didn't think the kids would go for it.

  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes it was quite easy. Really quick to prepare, and cook.

  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not. I would make my own.

  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?

For me, it was ok. The kids liked the chicken. Hated the dip!

Last night we had the Chicken Tikka + mint & cucumber raita.

I'd rate it 3 out of 5.

The chicken was nice and moist and I quite liked the taste. I'm not sure about the raita. My 1 year old ate a bit of the chicken with some rice and yogurt. My 3 year old refused it, said it was yuck.

It was easy to prepare and we even remembered to marinate the chicken in the morning ready for tea that evening.

We didn't have any olive oil (we were on holiday) so omitted that (instead fried the chicken in a little butter) and opted not to put onion in the raita as I'm not keen on raw onion.

This recipe mix was great whilst on holiday as we didn't have any of the necessary spices to do a Tikka, so from that point of view it made mealtime easier.

I'm not sure I'd buy this particular mix again. I'd rather just make my own raita by simply mixing mint sauce, cucumber and yogurt, but the tikka spices were good.

Overall, I'd say I liked it.

(Sorry forgot to take a photo of this one).

Third review! Tikka bites

Overall 5/5

We all loved it, including 10 mo DS!

Very easy to make (still maintain packaging a bit dodgy).

Followed recipe but substituted yoghurt for soya yoghurt and didn't put re onion in the dip.

This was a lovely easy mealtime, also gave me confidence to experiment with this sort of food in the future. I never would have made this otherwise. Now I'm thinking I could easily make my own curries from scratch.

Would buy again, of on offer.

Loved it.

2nd review- finally getting around to adding the feedback!

Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try?
Southern style chicken bites + bbq dip

How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest) 4

What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?
My 4 year old really loved it. She commented that the chicken was a bit spicy (usually means she doesn't like something) but she still liked it, and she was a huge fan of the dip- as was my 2 year old. DH and I both liked the flavour too.

How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?
Very easy, DD1 helped me and she enjoyed coating the chicken and mixing up the sauce. Really quick.

Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?
Followed the recipe, but used a bit more tomato ketchup- seemed absolutely fine, just ended up with more dip!

Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?
Well, not easier exactly- if I was doing something similar I would use frozen chicken nuggets. But this was almost as easy, and I much prefer my DDs to eat fresh chicken breasts than frozen, processed chicken. So, almost as easy for a better quality meal.

Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, and this would be our first choice recipe of those that we've tried. I also think schwartz should sell the bbq dip powder separately in little sachets- maybe 10 sachets in a box or something. We'd definitely buy that!

Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?
I loved it

Nigglenaggle · 05/07/2013 20:45

This is my third feedback. No photo I'm afraid, can't upload them :(

  • Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try?
Southern style crunchy chicken bites + BBQ dip
  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest)
Probably around 3-4
  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?
I quite liked it, quite a peppery taste to the breadcrumbs. The sauce was OK and nicer than I thought having read the feedback of others, but didnt stand out from normal bbq sauce. DH said it was horrid and peeled his topping off just eating the meat inside. I was interested to try this with DC as goujons of chicken or fish in breadcrumbs are one of his favourite things, but I find making the breadcrumbs a bit of an annoying faff - would rather not. He ate one and a half sticks and then decided I looked like I was enjoying it more and gave the rest to me ^^ Didnt touch the sauce. He didnt eat his peas either though grumble grumble..
  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?
Well I managed it with a screaming 16mth old clinging to my legs so I would have to say easy :) I used the exact amount of meat advised and there were enough breadcrumbs to go round, just, but can see why others have struggled - guess it depends how many pieces you cut it into.
  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?
I followed the suggestion on the back of the other 'dippers' recipe and substituted white fish for the chicken. I served it with peas.
  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all? If so, why? If not, why not?
Easier not having to make my own breadcrumbs, certainly.
  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Its a maybe for this one. I didnt feel the sauce added to it, I might look for the breadcrumbs on their own. But, although I hate doing it, sure my breadcrumbs dont contain a gram of salt :/ So I might be guilted into making my own.
  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?
I liked this one.
Nigglenaggle · 05/07/2013 20:52

As this is my third and last feedback, would like to say thanks to Schwartz for inviting me. Although we werent that keen on all the recipes, this has been my most fun product test so far - have enjoyed the cooking and also seeing what everyone else thought!

vjhist85 · 05/07/2013 21:58

Just had the Roast Chicken and potatoes. I would rate it 4/5, nice, fuss free roast dinner. The chicken was delicious and succulent, it produced a wonderful sauce from the juices (no need for gravy) and the roast potatoes were lovely and crispy. It was easier than doing a roast chicken from scratch if you wanted it to taste as good. We served it with simple veg (broccoli and carrots) but made no changes to the recipe. This is the first one I've tried that I honestly think I would buy again.

3rd Review

Which 2in1 recipe mix did you try?
Garlic and herb chicken bites and cheese and chive dip

  • How would you rate this recipe mix out of 5 (1 being lowest and 5 highest) 4
  • What did you/your DCs think of the overall flavour of the product?
DH and I liked both parts. The girls weren't keen on the dip but liked the chicken.
  • How easy, or difficult, did you find the 2in1 mix to use?
Very easy and quick
  • Did you follow the recipe on the back of the packet or did you add/take away any other ingredients?
I added some fresh chives to the dip, but otherwise followed the recipe.
  • Would you say the 2in1 recipe mix made your mealtimes easier at all?
I don't think it made the cooking any easier, but I liked the fact that I didn't need to think very much- just made up the packet mixes and added some salad. All the ingredients were things I'd have in the house anyway, so no planning involved.
  • Do you think you will buy, or look to buy, Schwartz 2in1 recipe mixes in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes- they're quite handy because they don't take too long to cook, but taste good. Useful for days when I'm late getting home, or can't be bothered to cook from scratch.
  • Overall, would you say you loved the 2in1 recipe mix, you liked it or you hated it?
I liked it

Very easy to prepare. Kids loved it, garlic crumb top was full of flavour and really made the dish taste great. I followed the instructions and loved how it was all in one dish and able to be served that way. Tops scores and will defo buy again and make.

PicturesofParadise · 06/07/2013 14:48

We tried the garlic and herb chicken bites with the cheese and chive dip and all loved it 5/5 would definately buy again.

The chicken with bbq sauce 3/5 it was nice but probably would'nt buy it again, the chicken was lovely but we are not really bbq sauce fans.

Roast chicken with roast potatoes, 2/5 I didn't like the roast potatoes they took longer to cook and I did not feel they really added to the flavour much at all. The chicken was ok but I would not buy this again.

I still have 2 mixes left which I will get round to using but obviously needed to post some feedback

The mixes have changed my opinion though, they are something that before the testing I wouldn't have even looked at them but will in future just to try and change the boring things that we normally eat!

Thank you for letting us test them.

Garlic & herb crunchy chicken bites + cheese & chive dip

This was one of the simplest ones we used. There was nothing we needed that we didn't already have in, and it was very very quick to put together.

We followed the recipe fully and I found it to be a good, fast meal to cook when I had a house full of kids having a mass playdate.

We really liked this one. We WILL buy it again!

Kids Rating: 4/5
