This thread is for the 100 MNers who are currently testing the new range of rice pots from Ambrosia with their family.

The MNers were sent a selection of new Ambrosia Rice Pots, including Ambrosia Light Rice, Rice + Jam and Sharing Pots, as well as delicious Chocolate, Apple and Devon Custard flavours.

Thoroughly enjoyed this product testing which I think answers the first question.

Would you buy any of the pots again?
Definitely the rice with Devon Custard and the rice with raspberry jam.

Do you think you would recommend the range to friends and family?
Yes if it came up in conversation.

Did you/children enjoy the taste of the rice pots?
My daughter tried the light pot as she isn't a fan of things mixed and she enjoyed it. The others were tried by me and I loved the new flavourings of the ones we received.

Did you/children have a particular favourite flavour? Most popular/least popular?
I loved both the rice with Devon custard as the custard made it really creamy. I also loved the rice with raspberry jam, there was just enough jam to mix in and it tasted lovely. I couldn't comment on the rice with chocolate as we didn't receive this one, we received two apple ones instead. I don't think there were any that were really unpopular, we would eat them all.

Which size pot did you prefer?
I liked the 190g pots as these are a good size for the price and would be really filling as a snack. The 500g sharing pot is a nice big size, to last a couple of days or to feed a couple of kids. Unfortunately we weren't able to put this to the test as the lid had come off ours in the box and covered everything in rice (cleaned off ok).

When would you be most likely to eat the rice pots?
The 190g would be great to eat between meals as just big enough to fill a hole and the 120g would be eaten after meals as a pudding for the kids.

Would you include in lunchbox or picnic?
Not for a lunchbox but that is more down to my kids making a mess than the pots but I would take in a picnic as can be eaten hot or cold.

Value for money?
I do think they are value for money and will definitely be buying them. Also some stores put offers on them so I buy loads in batches.

Have you bought or will you buy?
I will be buying the devon custard one again as it tasted lovely. Also the jam one was nice and I'd like to see what it tastes like with the strawberry jam.

Can I also add that the box it was delivered in was brilliant and sturdy and along with the rice tubs, once cleaned out I can use/recycle them to make things with the kids.

Yes. They were all lovely. Except the chocolate one we received. It was just chocolatey milky water in the tub, no rice. Shame.

The Devon custard and the jam pot would definately be bought again.

The apple could be a bit more appley, and the raspberry jam would be nicer seedless. But apart from that they were lovely. Surprisingly the light one didnt taste "light" so that was good.

Yes. She was disappointed about the chocolate one but loved the others.

Raspberry Jam was most popular. There wasnt a least popular. They were all nice.

The 190g pots.

Lunchtime or as a snack. Maybe as dessert aswell. My daughter loves them.

Yes the 120g pots would be ideal for lunchboxes.

Would you say that the range is good value for money?

Yes I think those prices are really good. Especially the 500g pot. We usually buy them in bulk when they are on offer. My local supermarket only sells individuals. If they sold a multipack I would buy that.

We buy rice pots a lot and will definately buy the raspberry jam and devon custard again.

She liked raspberry and chocolate ones best (she liked the bottom bit of chocolate) the light one the least. Must admit that the other 2 dc didn't like them so they passed them on to dd and me (hurree)

Which size pot did you prefer?
The smaller ones are good for lunchboxes (even though only 1 out of 3 dc liked them). Big pot good for family use (although likely to be just dd and me ha-ha)

When would you be most likely to eat the rice pots?
Lunchbox and as dessert with family

yes, I think they are comparable to other similar lunchbox pots
Have you bought or will you buy?
Have bought plainones in the past but as a treat would try some flavours as well.

Imporessive box in which they were deilivered.
Chocolate pot lid could be more chocolately (more brown so it's easier to see what flavour it is), same with the apple one. Jam was a bit difficult to scrap out of at the end (wrong shape for a little teaspoon). The light one was a bit too yellow in colour considering it was just plain rice. DD also commented she liked the funny shape of the pot of the light one.

I didn't really like the chocolate one. It was trying too hard. But we really enjoyed the rest. My favourite was the apple, kids was the jam one. Dp loved the custard one.

Jam was probably the winner out of them. Chocolate was she least favourite.

I enjoyed the rice pots especially the chocolate one. DS says "They were really gross because rice pudding is not a good way of making people enjoy food".

I liked the chocolate one best. I thought the one with jam in a separate part was much too sweet.

The quite small ones.

I wouldn't as they wouldn't eeat them but DS says "they would be ideal for lunchboxes"

I think the prices are quite expensive but would imagine there would be offers at supermarkets.

I would buy the jam and apple ones, and possibly the large sharing pot, as it was more convenient than a tin. (If it was comparable in price)

The children loved them. I liked the light rice, sharing pot and jam ones. I thought the chocolate was very thin and cocoa-ey, not sweet enough, but my 8yr old liked it. The light rice was really good for a 'light' dessert and didn't taste artificial like some lighter ranges. The custard was very bland, but the jam was lovely.

10yr old's verdict: "really sweet and creamy. Lumpy but like cake." (apple)
"this is the best - really fruity and lots of jam" (jam)
8yr old's verdict: "nice and chocolately and lumpy" (chocolate)
"OK. I think it's meant to be banana." (custard)
2yr old's verdict: "nice nice nice" (light rice, sharing pot)

Jam was the favourite overall, followed by apple. They loved the 'plain' one too though. (They often have this anyway) Custard was least popular. (Unfinished!)

For school lunches/teatime desserts at home

Yes to lunchbox, not for a picnic. (Too messy)

I think the sharing pot is a bit expensive but the rest are ok. I would probably just get them when on special offer/multibuy. 45p is about right for a packed lunch.

I would if on special offer. I would look out for the jam/apple/chocolate ones as a treat for lunchboxes.

Marking for later in the week, with a thank you for the box (although a bit batter) is going to be utilised for my sewing stuff!

Yes we did. Very different to home-made but enjoyable.

Would buy the rice + raspberry jam, the light and the sharing pot of the plain rice.

Yes, we all enjoyed them although I found the raspberry jam too sweet.

The most popular was the rice with raspberry jam. The least the apple which wasn't tangy or apple-tasting enough (reminded us of babies apple puree). The rice with chocolate was also not quite chocolately enough. The kids wanted it to taste more like 'real chocolate'.

The 2 smallest pots as perfect size for lunchboxes and smaller appetites.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the rice pots?
In lunchboxes for the kids, for snacks and for pudding after a main meal.

Definitely. Will make a change from yoghurt.

Yes, I think the prices are reasonable and comparable with other long-life desserts.

Marking my place...they tried to deliver ours today and can't get the box redelivered until Saturday so feedback will be thereafter!

I tried the light and found it a bit bland and mushy. DH tried the custard and the raspberry jam. He said they were like muller rice but mushy! He thought the custard was a little bland, but pleasant and the jam a little on the sweet side and needing more of a kick. DS2 ate the chocolate and apple and wolfed them down. I had a taste of the apple when DS2 had it and thought the apple flavour seemed rather synthetic. It made him giggle when he got to it, though - he's autistic and rather fussy about his food, but clearly enjoyed it

The smaller pots were just the right size for me and DS2. DH happily wolfed down the bigger pots

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the rice pots? They're handy for an easy to store instant pud. I'm more likely to eat one as a snack when I feel like playing Russian roulette because I'm lactose intolerant!

I'd be more likely to buy multipacks or take advantage of special offers. I'd sooner buy a tin of rice pud for half the price of the share pack. Or make my own

I've bought multipacks occasionally in the past and probably will do again.

1. Yes I did enjoy the pots, especially the jam one.
2. I would buy them again but couldnt see any in my local Tesco.
3. I would recommend of it came up but wouldn't be raving about them.
4. We all enjoyed the taste of the rice pots. We're used to muller rice so this was a nice change. I didn't rate the apple one as it didn't taste much of apple. DD1 ate the chocolate one and said it was good. I liked the sharing pot and the jam one best. DD2 (13months) loved tasting ours.
5. The small ones were a better size for the DDs but I liked the bigger pots.
6. We would usually eat these as a pudding. I would consider the smaller ones for lunch boxes but DD1 (3.10) found the lids a bit difficult to get off by herself.
7. I think these prices are a little steep unless there was a multi buy offer on. I might consider them as an occasional change for lunch boxes.
8. I haven't bought any more yet but I will be looking out for them.

We did enjoy the range and the variation in pot sizes. Very impressed with the range and especially loved the split pot with jam!

We all enjoyed the range with the exception of the Apple which tasted burnt and would definately buy the others again. All of us agree the jam one was best.

Already have spoken to some friends and family and raved about how good the range is.

I enjoyed them all tremendously, other than the apple which tasted burnt to me and I couldnt eat more than two spoonfuls. I was really surprised at the light pot as it tasted very creamy and not at all reduced calorie. My children really enjoyed them all though.

The clear favourite for me was the raspberry jam, was moreish. My other half preferred the custard and the kids preferred the light pot. Everyone enjoyed them all with the exception of the apple for me.

The smaller pots were ideal for the kids as a snack or after dinner. I would have preferred the jam one to be slightly larger but on the whole found the pots to be ideal in size.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the rice pots?
As a snack mid afternoon or after dinner for the little ones and to be honest any time of the day for myself.

I tend to but items like these on multibuy offers and think these prices are fairly reasonable for the quality of the product. However I could make a huge batch of my own rice pudding for not far off the price of the sharing pot!

I havent bought any following the test as we have been eating rice for days now but I will definately purchase some in the future.

Oh and I love the box it came in.....much better than the appletiser box from a few years ago and it has already been out to good use and decorated as my sons "secret pirate treasure box"

No, thye were not enjoyed by my family so i would not buy them again.

Mine haven't arrived yet! but I see some people only got their's yesterday so perhaps today!

My girls both loved the split jam pot. Me and DH tried devon custard and enjoyed it. We all, surprisingly, really disliked the chocolate pot which is a surprise as we are a choclate-loving household! I love chocolate but i felt that chocolate and rice pudding was just 'wrong'!

Would you include a rice pot in your child?s lunchbox or on a picnic? I dont think so, there are less messy lunchbox options that you can eat without a spoon!

Prices for the individual pots maybe a little high unless there was a multi-buy offer on.

We've not bought any products yet. Will we? Maybe. Might pop a couple of the split pots in the trolley of the weekly shop as an alternative to yoghurt for one meal.

As an aside, the box that the products came in is lovely. It is currently under our bed, where it fits very nicely, hiding some Christmas bits and bobs for FC!

Yes, DH, DD and I all enjoyed the rice pot range. Good range of sizes. The little pots suited DD - she liked the chocolate rice pudding and the one with jam best. The larger pots are too big for her so it was good to have the smaller ones she could try.

Would you buy any of the pots again? If so, which ones?
DD really liked the small chocolate rice pudding as a treat. We would get the small rice pudding for her as well. I loved the Devon custard rice pudding and will definitely buy that again. The only one I wouldn't get is the sharing pot because the lid came off and wouldn't go back on so it could have been wasted (except I ate the rest!). DH really liked the apple one but preferred plain rice pudding.

Yes I would defionitely recommend them.

I have previously bought Muller rice and I did think these Ambrosia pots were creamier. I preferred the apple Ambrosia rice pot and also the plain one. I wasn't as keen on the Light Rice Pudding though. It wasn't very creamy. DD liked the chocolate rice pudding very much. She said it was lovely, and the one with jam was "delicious". She asked me to buy more of both. The chocolate mixed very well and was very creamy. I also liked the fact there are few ingredients. This would definitely tempt me to buiy them again as a pudding.

Which size pot did you prefer?
The little pots for DD were ideal size. The apple and Devon custard for between meals were great. I didn't like the sharing pot size. I prefer my own pot!

Small pots after main meal. The mid range as a snack.

Not for school lunch as DD made such a mess with yogurts I stopped sending them. Definitely would for a picnic though.

Very good value for money. I was very impressed with the range and will definitely buy them again as they proved very popular in our house.

Than you for the lovely box too! It has become a home for Squinkies! But I may claim it!

Did you enjoy the taste of the rice pots? Did your children enjoy the taste of the rice pots? Yes, we were all (myself and DDs ,aged 8 and 10)agreed they were delicious. DS (5) refused to try them as he doesn't like rice pudding.

Did you or your family / children have a particular favourite flavour? Which was the most popular? Which was least popular? The children preferred the chocolate and the custard flavours. For me though, the chocolate would have been much better if it was darker and not so sweet, also the apple could have been a bit tangier. Rice and jam was good but nothing new since we usually serve rice pud with jam. The low fat was probably the least favourite, no surprise there.
Which size pot did you prefer? As a dessert the 120g were too small to satisfy, so the 120g and 145g wolud be my choice. However, for a lunchbox I'd choose the 120g.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the rice pots? Most likely as a snack btween meals or as a dessert.

They are too expensive for what they are. I'd be much more likely to open a tin of rice pudding, add some jam or choc spread and serve in a ramekin. Might buy them for camping or caravan holidays though.

The jam one was enjoyed by the children, but it was too sweet for me and DH. The custard one again was too sweet. The chocolate one, which I reserved for myself being a big chocolate lover, was particularly disappointing; it tasted very bland and just sweet.

Jam for the children was the biggest hit. Chocolate was unpleasant.

The smallest ones, because I think it would only be the children who would eat them in future.

Probably as a treat at home for the children.

No, I'll stick with yogurt as it's less sweet.
