Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia rice pot range?
Yes we did, we are quite big fans of tinned rice pudding so being introduced to the sharing pot was something of a revelation to DH.
Would you buy any of the pots again? If so, which ones?
Yes, I'd buy the sharing pot, the jam pot and the Custard pot.
Do you think you would recommend the range to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, if it came up in coversation.
Did you enjoy the taste of the rice pots? Did your children enjoy the taste of the rice pots? Did you or your family / children have a particular favourite flavour? Which was the most popular? Which was least popular?
I loved the custard one, it was yummy, I like to dip in and get a spoonful of creamy rice pudding with a bit of custard on the end. I am not a mixer. I also found the pot quite filling. DD had a little mouthful now and then and she likes custard! DH wouldn't have stood a chance as he knows my fondness for custard.
DD had the rice pudding and jam, DH prepared it by mixing in the jam, which was not the done thing [think along the lines of the cutted up pear incident] and she had a minor meltdown [a 22 month drama queen in the making] and after mummy had enjoyed a couple of spoonfuls she happily shared it while shooting daggers at daddy.
DH enjoyed the chocolate one, I'm not so keen on chocolate things to be honest, and he loves them, it was very tasty.
MiL was baby sitting and opened the sharing pot, she thought it was a brilliant idea for families, as she could dish up a portion for DD and a portion for her, reseal the pot for another day. I have been quite enjoying it cold [fresh out of the pot, but DH would complain if he knew that] it's satisfying that middle of the night need to eat.
The apple pot was alright, but I'm not keen on the texture of the apple, it's a bit too firm for my liking. DH polished it off without a blink.
None of us liked the low fat option, to me it has a weird texture, DH just felt it wasn't sweet enough. DD was in a funny mood [and probably overdosed on rice pudding] and didn't fancy it at all. The only thing I liked was the pot size, just right for lunch munches and midnight snacks without overindulging.
Which size pot did you prefer?
To be honest they all have been really useful sizes for different snacking/dessert needs. I would like to see some smaller sized pots as I really struggled to eat a whole rice pot and custard.
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the rice pots?
As part of our lunch, in the past I've bought them for DH as they are a filling alternative to yoghurt, as they can be heated on really chilly days. Me and DD have been enjoying them as part of our mid-afternoon snack.
Would you include a rice pot in your child?s lunchbox or on a picnic?
perfect for a picnic as they can be enjoyed cold. I would want a smaller pot to go in a lunch box, probably the size of the low fat option.
Would you say that the range is good value for money? (recommended prices are: 500g Sharing Pot, £1.39, 190g Rice Pots in Devon Custard, 65p, 120g Rice Pots in Apple and Chocolate, 45p, 115g Light Rice, 49p, 145g Rice + in Strawberry Jam and Raspberry Jam, 69p)
Yes I think they are good value for money. I do tend to fill the fridge up when they are on offer though.
Have you bought or do you think you will buy any products from the range following the test?
I would buy the ones with custard and jam again. I'd also buy the sharing pot too, in my opinion would be better than a tin of rice.
Additional comments
would really love to see some smaller pots, even go as far as saying some like the leading brand baked beans snap pots. As these are great for my little madam. There are some smaller pot option in the cold cabinets but they are very pricey. They would be perfect for toddlers.
DH would also love to see a jam and custard option, just typical. He is also a fan of golden syrup on his rice pudding too.
