- What was your overall impression of Kingsmill Fruit & Fibre bread? Was there anything you particularly liked or disliked?
I liked the concept of a healthier alternative to plain toast for breakfast. I also liked the fact that it contained fruit and fibre and thought it would make a good snack for my 2yo DD. However, when it arrived, I have to say that I was a bit disapointed. I imagined it to be a bit more rustic and, like other posters, expected it to contain some sort of spice like cinnamon so that it would smell like a toasted tea cake or the other fruit breads that I have tried before. I usually have brown bread and think it would have been a bit nicer if it was more like the granary or seeded breads that are available, but with fruit in as an extra. It seemed quite processed and not particularly soft or grainy. I also really quite disliked the smell as it smelt like it was full of those fake/flavoured fruit pieces you get in little bags for lunchboxes. Conjures up images of lots of sugar etc.
- How about your DC? Did they enjoy the taste of Kingsmill Fruit & Fibre bread or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about the product?
My DD had a couple of bites one morning for breakfast but left the majority. When I asked her why she didn't like it, she answered "Because it's stinky!" Perhaps the smell put her off too!
- Kingsmill says "By eating a slice of Fruit & Fibre bread, your child will start the day by having 35% of their recommended daily wholegrain" - do you think this message would make you more likely to buy the product or not? Why?
If I hadn't already tried it, it might've done.
- Now that you've tried it, do you think you would consider buying Kingsmill Fruit & Fibre bread? If so, why? If not, why not? How about other products in the Fruit & Fibre range such as muffins and bagels, do you think you might try any of these? If so why, if not, why not?
No. Mainly because it comes across as one of things that is a nice idea, but when you look closer at the ingredients list etc, it's not actually that good for you and it doesn't actually taste very nice.
I would have a look at the other products in the range and would guess that we might like the bagels, but I would want to be looking at the ingredients list compared to other brands.
- Finally, if it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Kingsmill Fruit & Fibre to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
No, purely because I didn't like it myself and nor did my DD. I also think that there are other fruit loaves on the market that are nicer so if I was to recommend anything, it would be one of the others.
Shame it wasn't a hit in our house, but thank you for letting us try it. It is obviously liked by some of the other testers so there must be a market for it! Because two loaves were sent out, I gave one to my neighbour and her children to try. Will report back with her feedback when I have it.
