We recently recruited 100 MNers to join the UltraLift Challenge and put UltraLift to the test. In addition, 10 lucky MNers (who also tested UltraLift) were invited to an exclusive Q&A session with Davina McCall, Garnier UltraLift brand Ambassador. Davina answered all sorts of questions submitted by MNers - including: what she thinks of UltraLift, how she manages her beauty routine within her busy schedule and lots more. You can see some pictures and info from the event here

So what is the UltraLift Challenge? The UltraLift Challenge is an activity created by Garnier to allow women across the country to test UltraLift anti-wrinkle cream for free and see the results for themselves against Garnier?s Wrinkle Reader. Last year 18,374 women put UltraLift to the test and 80% saw a visible improvement in the appearance of their wrinkles.

How can you participate? Garnier is offering free trial packs containing 14 UltraLift samples and the unique Wrinkle Reader
- find out more by visiting the UltraLift pages on Mumsnet

This thread is for testers to report back on the results they?ve seen from putting UltraLift anti-wrinkle cream to the test and to encourage all MNers to try UltraLift for FREE and see the results for themselves.

So if you were a tester, once you have used the cream for at least 14 days - please share with us all on this thread how you are finding the cream...

~ Before starting using the UltraLift - did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?
~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?
~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.
~ Would you recommend it to others?
~ Any other comments?

If you attended the Q&A with Davina, please answer the questions above about the product and also let us know about the event with her - and share any additional tips/experiences she shared with you, a summary is on the hub.

Everyone who is a tester and who adds feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £100 John Lewis voucher.
Thanks, MNHQ

~Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

I wasn't on the wrinkle reader, unless I was looking into very bright light and squinting like a mad woman.

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?

I have a few lines here and there but I rarely think about them. Its all part of the aging process isn't it ?

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

It has a pleasent smell, if a bit manufactured, like an air freshener. It sunk it beautifully though.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any
difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

No and no I'm afraid. My skin feels soft about five minutes after application but otherwise no noticeable results in texture or firmness.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.

No, I wouldn't - perhaps in a few years when the full impact of my lifestyle smashes into my face ?

~ Would you recommend it to others?

Maybe to someone with more mature skin but that would be an awkward conversation so again, no.

~ Any other comments?

I like the fact it is non-greasy and not too heavy or glossy like some anti-aging creams

  • yes I used the wrinkle reader & I was less than 1

  • I'm not too worried yet really, just a few little lines from frowning and smiling!

Nothing major yet but lots of sleepiness nights has got me worried about aging & wrinkles....

  • I really didn't like the smell at first , it's quite strong & not what I usually like or use. I was worried I might be allergic to it. But no reaction & the smell soon wore off or I got used to I! It absorbed quickly & easily into my skin. Very nice, lovely & soft.

  • my skins feels softer & brighter. No major wrinkles yet so not much change but I liked the cream and it made my skin feel healthy.

  • if I was buying anti aging cream, yes I would buy it again. Although I would prefer a more lightly scented cream.

  • I have already recommended it to my mum!

  • it was great, I was pleasantly surprised. I used it all over my face and on my hands.

Thanks for selecting me to try this out it was great fum!

Like many others, I don't really have crows feet so i was barely a 1 on the wrinkle reader - but my 'frowning at the kids line' between my eyes and the little furrows around my mouth are more irritating to me.

In my mind I still have the same unlined youthful skin I did in my twenties, but when I look in the mirror I think 'god I look tired' Must be the wrinkles.

I really liked this cream - nice texture, fresh and light, absorbed easily, my skin felt v moisturized, but disappointingly I can't really see any difference in the reduction of wrinkles. Actually, I wasn't really expecting to. It's cream in a pot, not botox.

I might carry on using it - to me a tenner is still quite expensive for a face cream, but it's a big chunky pot and a generous amount, so yes.

I wouldn't recommend it as a wrinkle reducer, but as a pleasant moisturiser, yes I might do. It's kind of a posh supermarket buy really isn't it, so easily available to all.

(I liked all the photos of MNers with Davina - looked like a v jolly day and you all look gawjuss.)

Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?
I was less than a 1 too Smile

And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?
Just getting older and noticing the changes - in my mind I am 35 not 45 and definitely want to delay any wrinkles for as long as possible.

How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
I loved the smell and texture of the cream and it absorbed very well.

Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
I did and have not noticed any difference to my face except it is well moisturised.

Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.
No probably not. I do moisturise every day but usually use a cream with SPF and prefer my usual brand.

Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, definitely worth a try.

Any other comments?
I liked the pot but would prefer if it was glass rather than plastic. I was also very surprised that the cream had no SPF in?

Thanks again Smile

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?
Yes, I found it a bit hard to use - it seemed to depend on the light and whether or not I was smiling, but I think beforehand I was probably about a 1 or 2 (when smiling).

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?
I'm not especially wrinkly for my age (mid 40s) I don't think, I'm more bothered by saggy neck. Also the bagginess under my eyes is worse than the wrinkles!

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
REALLY didn't like the smell, to me it's a kind of 'menopausal woman' smell. However DH liked it Hmm , my DD quite liked it, her comment was that 'it smells like grandma's perfume' (no prompting from me!). I did like the texture and it absorbed well.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
If anything, I would say I was more wrinkly after using it for a couple of weeks, sorry! I went up to a 2. Maybe it was just a stressful couple of weeks!

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.
I'll finish the pot, but wouldn't buy again, mainly because of the smell.

~ Would you recommend it to others?
no

~ Any other comments?
It says it is a Day Cream on the pot, but I couldn't find any SPF info on the packaging. I like my day moisturiser to have an SPF, so would mark it down for that reason as well.

Did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

grade 1-2

And how did you feel about your wrinkles?

Not that bothered - have never used anything other than the occasional moisturiser.

How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

Really don't like the smell - it's far too strong. Otherwise it wasn't too greasy and was easily absorbed

Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

No, unfortunately absolutely no change!

Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.

No, too expensive - an own brand cold cream is just as good and smells better.

Would you recommend it to others?

No.

Any other comments?

The smell was what put me off the most - it really is quite unpleasant and overwhelming

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character? an inevitable part of getting older, but would like to minimise for as long as possible
~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily? smelt clean and fresh, greasy to begin with but after 5 mins just soft not greasy anymore
~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader? have only been trying for a week, not long enough to notice any difference

~ Any other comments? I thought about using it as an all over face moisturiser but didn't because it had no SPF in it. This would have been useful as I don't like to use multiple products at the same time

I was lucky enough to be one of the 10 mumsnetters who met Davina and took home a goody bag of products so I've been using a combination of the normal day cream, the day cream with spf, the night cream and the cream with added serum.

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?
Less than 1 which surprised me as I feel quite haggard at the moment!

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?
Feel like they have appeared since I had children and that I look a lot older. They're not deep or bad but I am conscious of them.

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
It had a very strong smell, unlike any cream I've used in the past, which I initially wasn't keen on as I have sensitive skin and I was worried it would trigger a reaction. But so far so good and I'm beginning to like the smell. (Davina says she loves the way it smells)

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
My skin feels smoother and I think it may look slightly brighter, but that may be because I am actually making a real effort to cleanse, tone and moisturise each day. I've been using the cream with SPF all over my face rather than just round my eyes. In the past I've been quite lazy about skincare.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.
Yes I think I probably will. £9 is a bargain and its rare I find a product that doesn't irritate my skin.

~ Would you recommend it to others?
I already have. Went out with friends and someone said my skin looked nice so I told them all about Ultralift!

~ Any other comments?
Davina was lovely and I really enjoyed the afternoon. Thank you very very much for the opportunity.

Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

  • Yes, I was between 1 & 2.

And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?

  • They've been there for the last 3+ years, actually, they've been there since May 2nd 2009! The day that Nemo (our son with Complex Special Needs) made his debut into our lives! They tend to vary in size depending on how little sleep I have but I've accepted them as part of my face.

How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

  • It smells gorgeous, I love the smell of it and yes, it does absorb well without leaving a sticky residue.

Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

I haven't really noticed a difference with my crow's feet or other wrinkles, perhaps because they're not that big yet? I did find that my skin felt smoother and softer all over, but there's nothing to shout about yet, sorry.

Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18

  • No. I use Boots Perfect and Protect and find that it lasts a much longer time, and I find a noticeable difference with that.

Would you recommend it to others?

  • Yes, it's perfect for a daily moisturiser or base to add before foundation.

Any other comments?

  • I'm disappointed that it's without any sun protection given the importance of protecting the skin

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

I did use the reader, and was about a 3-4 on the chart.

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?

I guess my "laughter lines" are part of my character, but I'd like to stop them getting any worse otherwise I may have to resort to Polyfilla!

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

It smelt of nothing in particular to me which is good and it felt nice on my skin, not at all greasy. After a few minutes, it did make my skin tingle slighty; not in a bad way though! It did take a bit of rubbing to get it to absorb - more so than my normal moisturiser, but only a few seconds more.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

Yes. Sadly, my skin broke out into large painful spots and I gave up after about 4-5 days. However, there did seem to be a difference in my wrinkles; certainly foundation didn't seem to crease as much as before.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.

Due to the reaction, I won't carry on using it; had I not had the reaction and based on the apparent wrinkle reduction with makeup then I would certainly have considered buying it when my pot finished.

~ Would you recommend it to others?

Possibly! It's very hard to recommend a product when you appear to be allergic to it, but if it came up in discussion then I'd say that it did seem to work, but it would be hard to be certain given the reaction I had.

~ Any other comments?

None!

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character? i don't think of them as part of my character, if that is said positively it is usually said of men isn't it? I've had them for a few years but don't really think about them much
~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily? I don't think the smell is terribly strong, I don't particularly like the smell but don't strongly dislike it either. The cream was absorbed easily
~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader? I have noticed the difference with a couple of weeks use and will try it on my décolletage as recommended by a poster upthread

~ Would you recommend it to others? i would like to keep using it, hopefully there will be some offers on! I would recommIend to others
~ Any other comments? I wish manufacturers wouldn't try and fool us with lots of packaging, just to find the inside dimensions of the pot a lot smaller than the outside dimensions

Hello - thanks for the feedback so far!
We have some responses for you from UltraLift:

~ SPF: there is an UltraLift day with SPF 15. All UltraLift products are on our Hub

~ Smell - if you weren't keen on the smell, Garnier say: "We're really sorry to hear that the smell of UltraLift day cream is not for you. We are constantly looking to develop and improve our products so your feedback is incredibly valuable. We'll pass this to our product team and will keep you posted on any new UltraLift developments"

~ Where to use UltraLift "The UltraLift wrinkle reader was specifically developed for with the crow?s feet area. However, UltraLift anti-wrinkle cream can be applied onto the whole face and has been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and leave skin feeling firmer and smoother"

~ Spots - a couple of you reported spots and Garnier say "We are really sorry to hear that you have reacted to the product and seen spots. Please can we recommend that you call our customer support team on 0800 085 4377 or Eire 1800 818 677 or email them at [email protected] who can discuss this with you. Thank you"

  • I used the wrinkle reader and was on level 1/2, it's quite difficult to judge against the pictures on the reader.
  • my wrinkles have been here for a while, but would be great if they went
  • it does have a distinct smell, which I could smell for a little while after applying the cream but then disappears. I like the smell. It feels really creamy but light and easily absorbed. It's not sticky or heavy.
  • my skin does looks smoother and I think some wrinkles have smoothed out a little bit.
  • I probably would buy it again, the pot seems to be going a long way and I like the lightness and texture of the cream.
  • I might recommend it
  • produce a better wrinkle chart if you're going to provide one. I was also confused if it's just for the eye area or all over the face.

TO BE HONEST, i think I was a five 5. But maybe I'm too critical of myself.
~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?
I m 42, I'm happy with the way a look generally - people say i look a lot younger but I have a lot of laughter lines and some cheek creases.
~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
Smells nice absorbs easily.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
Skin tone looks better, and skin feels smoother. But I can't see much difference in the actual wrinkles and, believe me, I was really hoping this cream would work miracles!

possibly, if I saw it on offer, or if I had some Boots points to use.

I don't know - if people commented on how well i was looking, I might mention which cream i am using but....

Why no SPF?? It's the biggest cause of wrinkles and I HATE having to apply extra cream on top of face cream.

Couldn't really tell what I was on the wrinkle reader as I found it too small.

Not many wrinkles as I have good skin

I loved the smell of it - one of the best smelling facial moisturisers I have ever used and it was absorbed easily

Skin felt great but I have used moisturisers twice a day for 25 years so I expected it to fee pretty much the same

I am afraid I am a slave to Number 7 cosmetics but I might buy it for a change as the price is good.

I would certainly recomment this product and am pleased I was selected to take part in the trial.

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

I wasn't on the chart yet. My wrinkles are at the very fine line stage. I don't have crows feet. I am 36 and my skin is still fairly good.

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?

They don't upset me but as I am at the early stage of fine lines I guess now is a good time to try and delay the onset.

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

I really didn't like the smell. It was way to strong and smelt overpowering. I did like the cream though. It was rich but absorbed very well leaving my skin feeling lovely and soft. It didn't feel greasy and I able to apply mineral foundation straight afterwards.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

Unable to use the wrinkle reader. I think it definitely improved the texture on my skin though. It felt 'cared for' if that makes sense. I'd been away and still had the pot in my bag the over day so just used my old cream. I noticed the difference straight away. The ultralift cream is better than what I was using.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on? Yes I used the wrinkle reader. Being only 43 and plumpish, I didn't even score unless I was smiling. But with a big eye-wrinkling smile i'd say I was a 3/4 on the reader.
~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character? I have very dry skin, so I am concerned about wrinkles and always moisturise, previously with a differnent brand.
~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily? It was easily absorbed. I noticed that it felt a little more "stingy" than my usual cream, but only for a minute or two. The fragrance is quite strong. The first few times I used it i kept thinking "oh - someone has strong hairspray on" then realised it was this cream on me!
~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader? i was sceptical about the claim to reduce wrinkles but I have really noticed a difference. The fine lines are gone. OK - the big smiley wrinkle is still there but the loss of the small wrinkles is amazing. I'd say I am only a 2/3 now on the wrinkle reader.
~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18. Yes, that is a reasonable price for a product that works. Even better if they reduce the fragrance a bit.
~ Would you recommend it to others? Yes but to be honest I am not likely to discuss this sort of thing with my friends.
~ Any other comments? Fragrance a bit strong for my liking but otherwise a great product that, amazingly, has reduced my wrinkles!!

Part of my character but wish they weren't there but at nearly 60 I guess I've got away lightly.

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?
Felt soft and silky, absorbed well. I used it all over my face and neck as well as the target area of the eyes.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?
Seemed to make a small difference, skin feels slightly softer.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.
Probably not as I am on a limited budget unless I find it on offer somewhere.

~ Would you recommend it to others?
Yes to those who can afford it.

~ Any other comments?
Enjoyed participating in this trial.

~ Before starting using the UltraLift ? did you use Garnier?s UltraLift Wrinkle reader? What grade were you on?

I used the wrinkle reader but was pleased to see I was less than 1. My main area of concern is not my eyes but an area to the side and below my nose so it was difficult to compare at the chart was based on eyes.

~ And how did you feel about your wrinkles? New, old, deep, shallow, annoying or part of your character?

My wrinkles seem to be new (last couple of years) and are quite shallow at the moment but are getting more noticeable. I feel they are part of me and the aging process but I am not ready for them yet!

~ How did it smell and how did it feel on your skin? Did it absorb easily?

I was happy with the smell, I found it to be neutral. I hate over perfumed products and have wasted money in the past on things with a smell that lingers, but this one does not. It felt smooth on my skin and absorbed easily and didn't leave it greasy.

~ Did you notice a difference on your face? What did you notice? Was any difference noticeable against the UltraLift wrinkle reader?

I did notice that my skin seemed firmer, smoother and more moisturised. I did notice a slight difference with the wrinkles around my nose, they are slighltly less deep.

~ Do you think you will carry on using it? The RRP is £9.18.

I probably will carry on using it, the price is much less than other products I have bought in the past.

~ Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I would

~ Any other comments?

The instructions were not clear whether to use it on wrinkles or the whole face. I went for my whole face.

I like the jar and prefer plastic to glass (less chance of droppiing it and cracking the sink!) but the box it came in didn't really stand out to me.
