I trialed the kitchen spray and bathroom wipes.
1. What was your overall impression of the Dettol Power and Pure products you tried? What did you like the most about the range? Was there anything you didn't like?
First of all I was very excited to receive the freebies to trial esp as times are a bit tough in our household. Also, it did wonders for making me want to clean! Thank you for letting me trial the products.
I am not totally sure how the spray differs from the normal dettol anti-bac surface cleaner or spray apart from I imagine, the price?
Packaging looks good and gives the impression of something sanitary/sterile/to clean, but I agree with some other feedback that I initially took some time
to realise that the spray was for kitchen and wipes for bathroom, and query why the products are not interchangeable except that for marketing purposes to encourage consumers to buy more products.
I think in the invitation to do the trial it mentioned that the products could be used without hand protection/gloves but didn't find where it confirmed this on the product and was very unclear as to what "no harsh chemical residue" meant. And would like to know what chemical residue was left.
I do like the 99.9% bacteria kills tagline and seem to remember Louise Rednapp or someone investigating similar products on the television and finding this particular claim by this provider to be true.
I was also not clear whether there was an ideal way to wipe after the spray had been left for 5 mins... with a dry or damp or wet cloth?
It was also not clear that the wipes were flushable or how best to dispose. I thought it was funny and possibly ironic to state that one should use both sides of the wipe for environmental reasons, when it was not clear on the chemical residue left, and when they are disposable, use once wipes, and also as I was under the impression I didn't need gloves to use them.. but would not want toilet rim/seat grime against my skin as I used the other side of the wipe.
I also would like all cleaning wipes to be explicit that they are not for use on skin/babies as it appears (experience prior to this trial) the older generation just grab the wipes for a child, and don't always read the label of what it is for
!
2. Did you feel Dettol Power and Pure gave a powerful clean or not? How did it compare to other cleaning products you use?
I do think that both the products cleaned well, infact very well
. However the wipes didn't successfully attack the limescale ring around the taps on the bathroom basin. Also I am unclear as to the desperate to replace but inherited with the house kitchen sink and drainer which is a nasty matt brown colour and may be plastic but could be vinyl??? The product says clearly not to use on vinyl. But as I am unsure what type of material it is I gave it a good clean. The product left a spotty white residue, similar to windows after cleaning before polished. Along with my sink, there is an old brass tap so the product could not be used on that, and I didn't attempt it but was disappointed that a multi-purpose cleaner could not be successful on the sink (though realise it is antiquated and needs replacing).
3. What did you think of the smell? Do you think it smells less 'bleachy' than other cleaning products you use or not? Did you notice any difference in terms of there being any chemical residue being left behind compared to others?
I don't have a sense of smell (never have). But my family inform me that they have a more faint smell of anti-bac/clean with my 4 year old saying it smelt of powder. It seemed reasonable and less strong to them than other products and more the smell of anti-bac than bleach. The only difference in chemical residue (hard to tell when you are not clear what chemicals are leaving an invisible residue), was the white spots on the draining area of the sink.
It would be good to know if it really is safe for little ones to eat off dry-wipe clean areas after using the spray without ANY HARMFUL chemicals (not just no harsh chemicals) getting on their food, like the old anti-bac advertisement.
4. Did you use Dettol Power and Pure in any areas of your home that you would not usually use a powerful cleaning product? If so, where?
Sadly I have not yet managed to do the thorough clean I had wanted to this week due to a family situation, which means I do not feel I have fully utilised the products around the house. But I did do the key parts of kitchen and bathroom. I did use the bathroom wipes on the kitchen bin, and I did spray the children's play table, which may be the most powerful spray I have used as i normally just use a dab of washing up liquid on a cloth. Actually, this did lift pen marks and paint that hadn't come off before and looks much, much more clean.
5. Do you think you would use Dettol Power and Pure cleaning products again? If so why? If not, why not?
I am not sure. If my queries were be answered satisfactorily and the price was comparative then maybe but I probably need an advertisement to read to understand that is meant by "active oxygen" and "no harsh chemical residue" really means. I tend to choose the products that are more natural and less powerful and try to put more elbow grease in, and so am not sure I would choose power and pure above the normal surface cleaner or anti-bac spray. I probably wouldn't buy the wipes unless I knew they would be easily bio-degradable and not too harmful to the environment, and then only use them for emergencies (which then runs the risk of them losing their moisture over time) for example just before/as guests come round if short notice/unannounced, rather than the regular pre-meditated clean.
6. Do you think you would recommend Dettol Power and Pure to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
If they saw the product I would happily relay my experience and the positives found. I probably wouldn't be an advocate as such but if a friend saw the products in my house and commented then I would let them know that my experience had been positive and that it had removed some mess and scum much quicker and better than other products.
