tethers that's one of the reasons I did it in the pan - hate cooking in the microwave.

glitch · 13/02/2012 19:10

Well we have had a go with our chocolate porridge here.

Myself and my 6 year old liked the packaging with the bears face peeking over the bowl. I like the fact you use the bag to measure the milk. It does make rather a watery porridge though but that might just be me. Not a massive portion either, could do with 2 bags of porridge to one and a bit bags of milk.

Hmmm, the taste test. Well my DS (6) licked the spoon, declared it horrible and swapped it for Bran Flakes (!!!) instead. I had more of a go, but it wasn't for me. A bit slimy and just an odd sweetness, not really a chocolate flavour. I got through half of it before admitting defeat.
My 15 year old DSS liked it but prefers the golden syrup flavour.
So not a great result in the glitch house. We won't be racing out and buying it again but thank you for sending it to us. We enjoyed having a go.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 13/02/2012 19:16

I havent received our porridge. We were chosen... gutted.

QED · 13/02/2012 19:48

I didn't realise about using the packet for measuring milk Blush

snala · 13/02/2012 19:56

Ours hasn't arrived yet either.

CantDoThisAnymore · 13/02/2012 20:11

We both tried it again this morning:
DS(6) liked consistency, at about 1/3 then said he was full and could he have a bagel instead

ME: didn't like smell - its a bit like playdough, texture is a bit sloppy and falour is lacking - it's just sweet and playdoughy...

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 13/02/2012 20:29

Well DH made it yesterday for ds's. He used a jug to measure out the milk. They all thought that it looked great but nobody liked the flavour at all. "Too sweet" and, "it's not really like chocolate" were the initial complaints.

Thinking they were being over fussy I made myself a bowl this morning. I used the sachet to measure the milk. After following the instructions carefully I ended up with an extremely runny bowl of brown lumpy stuff. I ended up having to use a fair bit of Ready Brek our usual "porridge" to thicken it up. So after my initial misgivings I went into the taste test with an open mind, unfortunately I was disappointed again. The flavour was indeed sweet, and not really chocolatey. It tasted more like maple syrup than chocolate. The best bits were the colour (looked like it would be nice and chocolatey) and the fact that it wasn't completely smooth like Ready Brek.

I do like the packaging, tasteful but still eyecatching. Can I ask why the chocolate version weighs more than any of the other flavours?

I'm surprised to be saying this as usually anything chocolatey goes down very well in this house but sorry, we won't be buying this again. Thanks for the chance to try it out though MN and Quakers!

GossipMonger · 13/02/2012 20:32

I gave the other sachets to a friend who has 2 children.

After DS described it to them as a 'melted pooHmm' they refused to try it so my friend took it to work with her.

She hated it. Said it was like baby mushy food and had a flavour similar to baby chocolate pudding. She is right! I knew it reminded me of something.

Still have 6 sachets to get rid of!

So that is 8 votes of NO!

kasbah72 · 13/02/2012 20:34

Ours hasn't arrived yet either :-(

Tortoise · 13/02/2012 21:07

DDs refuse to try it again.
Not very good results for Quaker by the looks of responses on this thread.

MrJelly · 13/02/2012 21:13

We got ours on Friday and there is none left Grin

Had it on Saturday morning for breakfast and both DC (5 and 3) loved it - Dh also had some but wasn't that keen on it.

The DC asked for it again for breakfast yesterday and this morning and they both cleared their bowls each time so clearly a hit here.

BornToFolk · 13/02/2012 21:13

Ours hasn't arrived yet either. Mind you, I'm not really looking forward to it now after some of the responses here...Hmm

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 13/02/2012 22:27

DD and I tried this yesterday. Have to say I didn't realise that you use the sachet to measure the milk, just put the usual amount of milk for porridge in and topped up a bit when heating. DD tried a small mouthful, then a slightly larger one and said it was horrible, then asked for toast. When asked what was horrible she said it didn't taste of chocolate and it felt slimy.
I tried it and have to say I didn't think it tasted of chocolate just really sweet. I wouldn't buy it I'm afraid but did notice a blueberry one in the range which I might be tempted by as long as it isn't too sweet.

FourThousandHoles · 13/02/2012 23:00

Mine hasn't arrived yet. Are they still sending them out or has someone snaffled it?

mrsbossyboots · 14/02/2012 07:22

Where are we supposed to leave feedback for this? We got ours on Saturday and I think we were supposed to leave feedback w/c 20th but where?

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 14/02/2012 08:25

Thought we'd turned a corner as dd asked for choco porridge this morning however she's hardly eaten any think it was tge making of it she liked.

TheOtherHelenMumsnet · 14/02/2012 09:03

FourThousand - they were still sending them out late last week so those of you who haven't had yours yet should get them in the next couple of days

mrsbossy - the feedback thread will be going up today hopefully - I'll email and post here when it's up

Ours have arrived

I loved it Blush but I'm still working on the dcs to try it
My 7 year old seems keen but not my 5 yr old but she is very fussy - she usually eats cheerios with no milk

GetDownNesbitt · 14/02/2012 09:42

Collected ours from post office yesterday.

Packaging great and whole idea very, very exciting for 5 year old porridge eater. 3 year old non porridge eater vaguely interested.

This morning, 3 year old refused to even try it. 5 year old had a couple of mouthfuls and then said 'I'm really not keen on this' and had weetabix instead.

Dh finished the bowls and described it as porridge mixed with drinking chocolate. Not that enthusiastically, either.

Will have another go tomorrow!

Correctmeifiamwrong · 14/02/2012 09:51

I am sitting with my bowl and spoon in hand, waiting for the postie.

4madboys · 14/02/2012 09:52

two of my boys tried it this morning, ds2 (9) and ds3 (7)

ds2 said it was 'alright' he wasnt particularly enthusiastic, said it wasnt very chocolately and he preferred normal porride ie just plain bog standard tesco value oats! he gave it 6 out of 10.

ds3 pretty much the same. he gave it 7 out of 10.

WhereAreTheCakes · 14/02/2012 10:00

Received ours a few days ago - got 5dc and told the older four to give it a go and let me know what they think. So far no takers. One of them said it was an 'unnatural combination'.

Me and youngest DC who has just turned 2 always have porridge made with just milk. I read the ingredients and compared with other cereals and my usual porridge oats. It didn't compare favourably with normal porridge - seemed to me that the main ingredient to make it chocolately was sugar.

Nutrition wise it was on par with Cheerios.

Decided it would not be a good thing to give to toddler who is very happy on the no sugar added oats. Will check again with the older, teenage DC if they could be enticed into trying.

walkingonthemoon · 14/02/2012 10:03

Leaving feedback on here as if I don't do it now - I will forget!

Bit underwhelmed here too TBH. My 3 year old porridge lover wanted 'normal' porridge with blueberries and despite my best efforts to pursuade - would not even try the choc porridge.

DH and DD (7) gave it a go though - DH said 'nothing special' and DD didn't like it at all and had a hot cross bun instead.

I ate a sachet because didn't want to waste it but TBH, won't be in a hurry to eat again. Not chocolately enough, tasted of weak uncooked cocoa powder (which is essentially what it is?).

Positives: like the idea of the sachet being milk measurer- great when you are taking a sachet to work or camping - although I found the porridge far too sloppy - was like lumpy milk. Would be keen to try the other flavours through.

It is one of those products that you like the idea of and would like to love it - but you have it and it is disappointing. Sorry! Just being honest!

Snapespeare · 14/02/2012 10:33

still waiting for ours - I am envious of your chocolate porridge! :(

shaka12003 · 14/02/2012 10:39
