Is this the feedback thread?

We had our first try this morning. DD1 (nearly 3) was hugely excited about it, ate a spoonful then said she didn't like it and demanded shreddies instead. She is a bit picky in the mornings atm, although will eat a bowl of normal porridge with honey quite happily.

I gave her bowlful to DD2 (12mo) who eats everything- except chocolate porridge, it turns out.

So not a raging success. I tried some too and it wasn't really my cup of tea either, too sweet and sticky, and as others have said, not much chocolate flavour. I'll try again tomorrow and see if it goes down any better

ilovecats · 11/02/2012 21:36

We received ours yesterday and all tried it this morning. DH and DD are big porridge fans at the moment, so they were itching to get their hands on it. Sadly, they were a bit disappointed though.

DD had one spoonful and wanted something else. She said it doesn't taste like chocolate at all. I gave a bit to one of the twins who eats everything, but she also took it back out of her mouth and wiped it on her bib (she's 14 months).

DH ate his but said its very sickly sweet and hardly tastes of chocolate, and I'm afraid I have to agree. He also had some toast afterwards but he does eat a lot. DH and I thought it was very clever how you used the sachet to measure the correct amount of milk in theory but it actually was quite hard not to spill it everywhere.

Thank you for letting us try this, and even though its not for us, I will be trying the other flavours- especially Blueberry.

acsec · 11/02/2012 21:42

Collected mine from PO today - DSS is looking forward to trying it for breakfast tomorrow (as is DP!!)

HavePatience · 11/02/2012 21:49

DS, who eats regular porridge with honey and loves it, loved this as well. Tbh I was hoping he wouldn't, given the amount of sugar.
But, he still gobbles up normal porridge with a bit of honey just the same, so all is ok. I don't think I'd buy it unless Quaker could convince me otherwise about the unknown ingredients and sugar level.

popelloucla · 11/02/2012 21:58

Tried ours this morning.
DD2 eats porridge regularly and gave it two thumbs up, DD1 thinks porridge is disgusting, but gave it one thumb up.
I tried a bit and thought it was fine. It isn't very chocolatey, but that's not a bad thing.

HavePatience · 11/02/2012 22:05

No, not chocolatey, but sweet. Artificially sweet. I think this is why ds liked it. He doesn't normally get stuff like that. He was eating it quite enthusiastically and watching me as if I might take it away! I think he sensed my scepticism of it.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/02/2012 22:07

Just picked mine up from the post office today, shall try it in the morning!

nenevomito · 11/02/2012 22:21

You too Ferret? The DCs are away but I am going to valiently have some on their behalf tomorrow.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/02/2012 23:02

Take one for the team baby. Grin

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 12/02/2012 03:03

Well my porrige refuser dd almost 4 are about 3/4 of it. This is tge first winter she has declined porridge whenever offered and initially didn't want to eat it. I had got her to help make it in the dish and I then put it in the microwave. I added a bit more milk when it came out to help cool and it was a little too thick. She didn't want to try it but did and said she didn't like it, left her a bit and she then ate quite abit. So good news on that front.

I was surprised by tge ingredients list and also wonder what these natural flavourings are.

Me? I love porridge, I due use oats so simple, I have the plain one and add maple syrup, or rather I addporridege to my syrup Grin however I don't think I could eat a bowl of this. If I want choc breakfast I will continue to have a bowl of (hidden) coco pops.

TheSkiingGardener · 12/02/2012 07:43

Well it tastes ok, but it doesn't taste of chocolate. It tastes as if someone has told it about chocolate, and it's doing it's best.

DS rejected it, but he was yelling "weetabix" at the time so it may not be personal. I'll try it on him again tomorrow.

LynetteScavo · 12/02/2012 07:47

Where is the feedback thread? Is this it? I've lost the piece of paper that came in the box. [bush}

LynetteScavo · 12/02/2012 07:48

Or even Blush

Hopstheduck · 12/02/2012 08:56

I think they said they would email a link once it was up and running x

eyestightshut · 12/02/2012 09:00

I am adding our feedback here, as we're off tomorrow!
We got ours yesterday, and we had it for breakfast today.
DS who is 5, DD who is 2 were our taste testers, and I had some too, to provide independent adjudication.
DS liked the bear on the box. Both children commented on how nice it smelt as it was cooking. However it was all downhill from there!
DS had one spoonful and refused to eat any more as "It was too slimey" To be fair, he's not a big fan of sauces and soft textured stuff.
DD had about 3 spoonfuls but refused to eat any more. Initially she reported that it tasted nice, but gave up after a few spoonfuls.
As a result I had to eat it - and have to say I agree with them!. For me, the downsides were:
Texture was very unpleasant - I appreciate the fact that the oats have to be very finely milled to ensure they cook quickly, but it was very gloopy.
The taste was awful. It didn't have enough of a chocolate flavour, and had a very synthetic sweetness to it.
Thank you to Mumsnet and Quaker for allowing us to participate but I'm afraid it's a thumbs down from us!

GossipMonger · 12/02/2012 09:46

Well the child I signed up for to eat the porridge point blank refused to try it! He said he doesnt eat porridge.

So ds2 aged 7 tried it and he eats loads of porridge. He put more sugar on it and said it was ok.

Dh said it had a nice consistency but little flavour and he would rather eat normal porridge with honey.

I did not like the look of it at all and have only sniffed it.

Thumbs down for us.

Grockle · 12/02/2012 09:54

We tried it this morning. Usually I make chocolate porridge from oats and a square or two of chocolate. I asked DS how the packet compared to the one he usually has and he said:

This one (the packet):
Is more chocolatey (I disagree)
Is Sweeter (definitely but I don't think that is a good thing)
And is better Angry than the one I make!

So big hit with 6 yr old, mother less impressed. Would be very good for camping.

GossipMonger · 12/02/2012 10:23

DS1 said it looked like a melted poo...........

membershipcard · 12/02/2012 11:24

Picked mine up from PO yesterday. Everyone has had some this morning. General opinions

  • barely chocolatey, but that is a positive.
  • not too sweet despite amount of sugar listed. We usually add maple syrup or honey to normal porridge.
  • bit too sloppy, will add slightly less milk tomorrow
  • liked the easy tear packet which becomes the measuring jug. Less washing up.

So overall SmileSmile

ChunkyPickle · 12/02/2012 11:27

Hmm - we'll try again tomorrow, but I think he'll be sticking with the golden syrup one..

He took a spoonful, waited a mo with a funny look on his face... tried a second spoonful (with a different spoon, in case that made a difference), then handed the ball to me saying 'ALL DONE'

I tried it. I don't think it tasted very chocolaty at all - in fact it reminded me of a weak chocolate protein shake.

MegBusset · 12/02/2012 12:30

I had it this morning (kids haven't tried it yet, wanted to check how sweet it was before giving it to them!). I rather enjoyed it in a comfort-food kind of way, liked the texture and glad it wasn't too sugary. But apart from the colour it wasn't very chocolatey and left a strange aftertaste. Would definitely like to know what the flavourings are.

lubeybooby · 12/02/2012 13:46

Ok, I know it isn't official feedback time yet but I thought I'd get my first impressions down while I'm actually sat eating it

I think it's very nice, despite not being very chocolatey at all. It's more porridge with a distant hint of chocolate, rather than 'chocolate porridge' Great consistency though. My DD isn't here to test at the moment but I'm not sure she will be convinced due to lack of chocolateyness.

I loved how easy it was to make with the sachet to measure the milk. I had been thinking 'ffs do I find a jug or guess at the amount' so was ridiculously delighted with that.

A word of warning to anyone else making it - if you have a 900w + microwave make sure you adjust the timings or it will boil over the bowl... I did mine for 1 min 40 seconds and caught it just in time, and it was a very deep bowl!

acsec · 12/02/2012 15:14

So tried the porridge this morning, here's the feedback:

DS aged 7: "8/10, it's nice but not very chocolatey"

DP: "Not overly chocolatey, it's porridge with something but couldn't tell you it was chocolate if I didn't know."

Me: "It's more vanilla than chocolate."

We all quite liked it but prefer real porridge with a bit of jam or some blueberries!

choccyp1g · 12/02/2012 17:11

We tried it this morning:

DS was excited by the thrilling method of measuring the milk. It looks YUCK when it comes out of the microwave, then you stir it a bit, and it looked a bit netter, but is still much too runny for our liking.
Anyway, he ate about a third of it, announced he wasn't very hungry, and asked for toast.
Normally I make porage with water, and he then puts sugar on it. I think this is not chocolatey enough, or not sweet enough or too runny or something.
And it is really wasteful to use a pre measured pack, much more sensible to use your own measure according to how much you want to eat.

vincenta · 12/02/2012 19:22

We tried it yesterday.Hmmm...
My little one is 33 month old.Porridges aren't his cup of tee he rather prefere pasta, potatoe and meat dishes.
Only porridge which he likes is quaker oat so simple(apple& blueberry/apple,sultana, raisin, cranberry)
I cook almost all of our meals from scratch, even desserts(cakes, biscuits, waffles) but my homemade porridge,my son simply don't like.
That's why when we in porrdige mood we take quaker oats, they are so simply to cook and tastes great.
That's why I thought that chocolate flavoure oats will be my sons favourite.
he eated all bowl of porridge told that they are yummy, yummy.
To be honest for my likeing they aren't sweet nor chocolate enough.
