Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
Overall impression - very good. Enjoyed eating them, bit different to other crisps, 'felt' healthier. Love the packaging, really really premium and friendly and earthy looking.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Crisps, but not crisps. They taste like the best thing about cereal. Thin, flavoursome and guilt-free!

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
We liked the Sea Salt and the Sweet Chilli the most. A Lamb and Mint one might be nice.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
You could probably eat them for breakfast without feeling too horrible, they just taste 'healthy'.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I definitely would - perfect for kids and adults as an anytime snack.

biggerfeetsmallerboobs · 08/09/2011 15:59

Q1 I like the matt packaging and the soft colours. I thought they were delicious, especially the rosemary flavour. I loved the crunchy texture and the fact they don't taste oily like crisps sometimes do.

Q2 Crunchy texture, nice flavours, very more-ish.

Q3 Rosemary and onion was my favourite, I also liked the cheddar and onion. I'd like to see a salt and vinegar flavour.

Q4 I like the fact that they contain wholegrain and natural flavours, it makes them seem healthier than crisps (I am very susceptible to a bit of 'healthy/good for you' marketing though!)

Q5 I would recommend them.

saladfingers · 08/09/2011 17:21

Q1 yes, very tasty. Crunchy too.

Q2 baked crisp like snack, very crunchy

Q3 Rosemary and onion reminded me of roast chicken sunday lunch!

Q4 Wholegrain baked snack

Q5 for adults possibly but for kids i think walkers french fries/quavers have less fat/salt/sugar and will be cheaper

shanks313 · 08/09/2011 17:32

Still havent received them or any post office card to say they have them

gazzalw · 08/09/2011 17:49

Maybe your Postie ate them.... (only joking!) Wonder how many Mumsnetters were chosen to participate in this tasting!???

Hulababy · 08/09/2011 17:59

Testers were me, DH and 9y DD.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, we all liked them a lot. I am not a crisp eater as such but I liked this, infact I prefered them to normal crisps. They were crispy and tasty. DD really enjoyed them.

They worked well in a crisp sandwich too Grin

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

A bit like crisps but square rigged shaped, a bit more of a healthy version fof crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

Between us we liked all the flavours. My favourite was the onion and rosemary - really tasty. The cheddar ones were not very strong. My least favourite was lightly salted as they were a little too plain.

DD says she'd like to see a raost chicken and stuffing flavour.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Heealthier crisps

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. They were tasty.

TheOnlyWayIsEnfield · 08/09/2011 18:09

Right, here are my thoughts...
The packaging for the crisps make them look healthy and wholesome.
The cheese flavour is distinctive, and a good flavour for a crisp. There should be more cheese-flavoured crisps. Yellow is a good colour for the packaging of this flavour.
I like the sweet chilli and the soured cream and black pepper the best. The least favourite were the onion and rosemary.
The onion and rosemary smell a bit like feet and also have quite a sweet flavour.
The positive things about these crisps are many. It is good that they are lower in fat, and it appeals to me that they are a source of whole grain. The crispy texture is good. The use of sunflower oil in the cooking process is good for those with high cholesterol.
A few of the flavours are a bit sweet, and do fade quickly, often before you have finished chewing the crisp. This is true of most of the flavours, but the cheese, and onion and rosemary flavours are the worst culprits. For this reason, more strong, tangy flavours would be good.
Some ideas for other flavours are:
roast beef and horseradish
spicy tomato
paprika
bacon
salt and vinegar
I like crispy foods. Let me know if you need me to eat anything else on your behalf. Grin

solidgoldbrass · 08/09/2011 18:21

Back again to say we have now eaten all of the crisps and therefore ...
Least like was the sweet chilli, which tasted (to me) the most artificial and reminded me of the tomato ketchup/prawn cocktail crisp flavours I have never liked, though DS ate them happily enough. The sea salt ones are OK but a bit bland. The cheddar and onion are yummy.

On reflection - you don't get quite as many crisps in the bag as you think you are going to get, and whether or not I would buy them would be a bit dependent on price, but they are generally nice snacks. I would like balsamic or cider vinegar flavour.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 08/09/2011 18:39

Oh yeah - paprika flavour would be yummy.

Cherrypi · 08/09/2011 19:05

Q1
Yes I did enjoy them. They were nicer than I expected.
Q2
Crisps but rectangular and more crispy than greasy.
Q3
The rosemary and onion one. Paprika maybe?
Q4
More crispy and less oily
Q5
Yes as they are quite tasty.

suzannened · 08/09/2011 19:15

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
Liked them - had a satisfying crunch & didn't taste as bland as some of the other healthy snacks

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Light & crunchy alternative to crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Favourite flavour was cheddar & caramelised onion
I'd like some more spicy flavours - I'm addicted to wasabi at the moment but I'm not sure if that would work

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Light, non-greasy texture

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, my sister & I often compare snack ideas and always let each other know if we find crisps with low salt/fat

niniane · 08/09/2011 19:43
  1. I liked them, as did DP. I thought they were well flavoured although not overpoweringly so. I would like the option of a larger bag though.
  2. Healthy crispy things that actually taste nice.
  3. Cheddar and caramelised onion. Funnily enough I wouldn't normally eat cheese and onion crisps but I loved these.
  4. Healthier than others but tasty. The two rarely go hand in hand.
  5. Yes. I enjoyed them so would hope others would too.
DeepPurple · 08/09/2011 21:11

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I liked the new design packaging it made them look appealing. I enjoyed all of the flavours especially the cheese ones.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Healthier crisps with a great taste and a good range of flavours.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I enjoyed the cheese ones and the salted ones the most. I think some unusual flavours like pepperoni or something similar would be nice.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Healthier and not as greasy with a great taste.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely recommend them to friends. I even bought some to put in little bowls at a party I had last week.

PegPolkadot · 08/09/2011 21:22
  1. Really liked them. Thought the packaging was nice/tasteful. I like the fact that they are very crispy/crunchy and the flavouring is evenly distributed.
  1. I would describe them as a snack which is a healthier alternative to normal crisps.
  1. I like the rosemary flavour. Husband liked the sweet chilli.
  1. I liked the fact that they were wholegrain. I am not aware of any other wholegrain crisp/ snacks on the Market.
  1. I would recommend these as a snack.
daisyhollydilly · 08/09/2011 21:30
  1. Tried them with whole family. Everyone thought they were ok. Tasted nicer than Walkers Baked Crisps. Some of the flavours weren't strong enough.
  2. They taste a bit like nachos.
  3. Overall my family liked the sour cream and cheddar ones equal best (everyone liked them). Least favourite were the onion and rosemary then the chilli ones.
  4. The fact that they are whole grain, we did a blind testing and then tried to guess what the flavours were - the sea salted came across as bland.
  5. Would have them if looking for a healthier crisp, or to give the girls for an afterschool snack.
lindsell · 08/09/2011 21:44

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Liked the new packaging, I enjoyed eating them as they were nice and crunchy with good flavours. My DH on the otherhand thought they tasted like cardboard.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

crinkled wholewheat crisps with a good crunch and more healthy than some

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

Rosemary & onion was my favourite, the cheese & the sour cream ones were a bit disappointing, the sea salt one rather bland. I'd like a balsamic vinegar type one.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Wholewheat so they seem healthier

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes

llynnnn · 08/09/2011 21:54

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I enjoyed eating Sunbites, they all had a nice subtle flavour and were a refeshing change from other more usual crisps. I loved the packaging and colours (although dh wasn't too impressed, he thinks they look too girly)

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Light, crisp, healthy alternative to normal crisps. Nice flavours, not too strong and overpowering

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
My favourite flavour was the chilli one. I would like to see more meaty flavours, maybe chicken or bacon

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The wholewheat, I like the fact that they are a healthier alternative

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes definitely, they are scrummy and would love to try the salted ones with a sour cream or salsa dip!

Thanks for letting us try them!

Marrow · 08/09/2011 21:55

Q1 Overall impression good. Nice packaging. Soft colours work well and make it seem like more of a premium and healthier brand. Liked eating them but found they had a nasty aftertaste.

Q2 Wholegrain crunchy crisps that have less fat and more fibre than other crisps. Only three Weightwatcher Propoints!

Q3 Liked the cheese and onion. Would love to have a salt and vinegar flavour.

Q4 Wholegrain

Q5 Would recommend as most friends on a diet and they have fewer calories than other crisps!

chrisrobin · 08/09/2011 22:35

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
Very tasty and I enjoyed them. They are a bit different to other products on the market.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
A bit like Square crisps but with more substance and a good selection of flavours.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Sweet Chilli but the Sour cream was very nice too. They cover quite a nice range so there is no flavour in particular I would like to see.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Crunchier and not as greasy.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would recommend them as they were a nice snack and quite healthy for a crisp type snack.

mrsgordonfreeman · 08/09/2011 22:51

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

They were all right. My daughter liked them, but as they come with a surprising amount of added sugar, I found them strangely sweet. Like Skips without the saccharin. I don't understand why, they would have been nicer without. I liked the crunch, the texture and the malt favours.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Wheat based savoury snack.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

The cream cheese one although again I found it too sweet.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

They seem to be aimed specifically at women.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would if they were looking for something a bit different.

pookypup · 09/09/2011 06:28

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I did enjoy them, very much. They were not as greasy tasting as many other crisps, it was nice to have a more complex flavour and to taste the grains used. The ingredients list also impressed me - I am often put off convenience foods by artificial additives and actively look for products with ingredients I recognise and would find at home.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Square, perhaps a slightly healthier choice but definitely tastier than many other crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I did like all of the flavours, even salted which I thought would be boring but was lovely. Rosemary and onion was very good - natural taste and unique. Sweet chilli also went down well.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Seem to be healthier option without compromise on taste.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes-worth trying if you have not thought to. I do not buy crisps very often, but would look for and choose these again when I do. As other posters have said, larger bags for sharing and nibbles would be great as this is how we most often eat crisps.

Doobydoo · 09/09/2011 07:12

Leaving feedback tonight.Just so you know I haven't forgotten!

MetalSian · 09/09/2011 09:41

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I didn't really enjoy eating them. I didn't really like the texture or tastes.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Wholegrain Crisps. But not as nice as normal crisps, putting healthiness before taste.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
The flavour I liked the most was the sour cream, although it was rather sweet.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Seem to be aimed at adults looking for a healthy alternative. But they are so sweet I do wonder how healthy they really are.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
No, I wouldn't spend money on them personally so I wouldn't recommend them to a friend.

pozzled · 09/09/2011 10:45

Finally getting around to adding my feedback:

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I loved them, I thought they were really tasty and had a great crunch. I did think they were a bit unusual though and probably not to everyone's taste.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
A bit like Walker's Square crisps but with wholegrain. Slightly healthier version of crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Sweet chilli was my favourite. The only one I wasn't that keen on was Slightly salted. I think there should be a salt and vinegar flavour.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The use of wholegrains, although I do think that it's a little bit 'gimmicky'. I think the amount of wholegrain in a bag must be fairly small so a bit pointless, you'd be better off making other changes to your diet rather than just changing to these crisps!

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, because I really liked them. I will buy them again, but based purely on the flavour. Healthwise I don't think there's much difference between them and other bags of crisps, especially if you don't have crisps too often. I suppose though that if a friend was looking for healthier versions of crisps I might mention them.
