According to research by Philips, in over 60% of UK households it is women who still do the lion's share of the ironing. On average, women dedicate over an hour a week to ironing compared to 25 minutes for men (40% of men admitted to not ironing at all). With this in mind, Philips has developed a new iron, specifically for men.

Philips say this about their new product "Housed in a robust black outer casing, the new Philips Man Iron exudes masculinity. Unlike any other iron, the appliance boasts a sleek design - resembling that of a premium sports car rather than a conventional iron. The Man Iron is charged to the max with performance-enhancing features to ensure that ironing is quick and simple. With 2,400 watts of power and a scratchproof soleplate, the Philips Man Iron is expertly crafted using the toughest, most durable materials to produce a practically unbreakable tool that can meet the toughest ironing challenges, delivering effortless results in minimum time with minimum fuss."

Philips wants to find 30 Mumsnetters who currently have an ironing-averse man in their life - this could be a DH, DP or DS about to start work or go to uni, to take part in a product test on Mumsnet.

Of course, we know that in many MN households, tasks such as ironing are shared or that one party is happy to undertake the task (or even pay for it to be done by someone else Grin). But if you get lumbered with the ironing pile and could do with a new iron to 'encourage' other household members to do their share then this is the test for you!

If you are selected to take part, you will be sent the Philips Man Iron - which is retailing at £60 - which will be yours to keep. All we ask if that your DH/DP/DS etc tries the iron and we ask that you/they add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet about how they got on with it.

Each tester will be sent a link to a video featuring Andrew Martin, author of How to Get Things Really Flat: A Man's Guide to Ironing, Dusting and Other Household Arts, who will give tips on ironing for men (even if you're an expert you may pick up some tips!).

In addition, everyone who takes part and adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will get £100.

To apply to take part please add your details here. We're sorry but this test is only available to UK residents.

Thanks and good luck

Oooh thank you MNHQ :)

Have just told dp and explained that he has to test it for the trial. The look on his face was priceless! Bizarrely he just said ok though Hmm

It's my birthday thursday and I'm thinking he might be plotting revenge with a lovely set of pans or something....

Buriedundernappies · 16/08/2011 17:27

2gorgeousboys · 16/08/2011 20:37

Just seen my email for this - hurray! Hopefully the iron will arrive by Monday and I could give it to DH for his birthday Grin

SparklyCloud · 17/08/2011 23:02

cannot wait to get ds using this Grin
Our cheapo iron has bits of black stuck to it, have tried to remove but its still there.
Will be great to try a proper make iron instead!

TheLimeFairy · 22/08/2011 09:18

The iron has arrived and looks great. I will be leaving the ironing for DH today evil Grin!

TittyBojangles · 22/08/2011 10:03

Just got my iron! Woo hoo!! Grin

insanityscatching · 22/08/2011 10:35

My iron has just arrived too. Loving the packaging and especially appreciate the box of goodies for me. Have texted ds and sorted out a pile of stuff for him to iron Grin thought he could start with the simple stuff and I'd show him how to press shirts once he'd got the hang of itWink

onadifferentplanettoday · 22/08/2011 10:54

Hope mine comes today ,my ironing basket is overflowing as havn't done any ironing all week so the ds' can make sure they do a thorough test! Am intrigued by the 'box of goodies' comment!

CoffeeGoneColdAgain · 22/08/2011 11:07

What a lovely package! Thanks Philips for the box of treats, I hope I will get to use them in peace this evening when DP comes home from work to the ironing pile! Thanks Mumsnet! :o

CoffeeGoneColdAgain · 22/08/2011 11:08

onadif, shall I spoil the surprise?

Buriedundernappies · 22/08/2011 11:53

Just recieved mine, loving the box of goodies!! Will be using those tonight while DP has a nice pile of clothes to look forward to when DS is in bed tonight Grin

onadifferentplanettoday · 22/08/2011 12:04

Mine is here now complete with goodies, Ds' will be set to work after lunch!

ChickChicken · 22/08/2011 12:09

Got my iron this morning, complete with goodies for me :) Thank you.
Dh is going to try this out after work, the karate uniforms will be the big test for us, horrible horrible things to iron.

FannyFifer · 22/08/2011 13:56

Liking the iron and the case it's in, very handy. Looks like a good solid iron & the cord looks a lot more substantial than on other irons I have had.

Thanks also for the wee goody bag, very nice, although thought one of the items was wine, slightly disappointed it wasn't.Grin

maddiemostmerry · 22/08/2011 14:52

Just got in from work and discovered the iron has arrived plus a box of goodies. That's lovely, thank you Philips!
I am giving my three testers their own ironing to do. Yay!

nickschick · 22/08/2011 20:16

Mine is here too ........I started by showing ds3 how it works (he's 10 and open minded to ironing) he had a little go and ironed his pillow case (hope this doesnt become a must for him unless he intends to do it every time) he asked could he have the black box for pokemon cards........Ds2 saw the box assumed it was hair straighteners and diverted his eyes (he has 2 ironed t shirts left so by Thursday hes gonna need to look at it) ds1 eyed it warily and assumed its v technical and hes going to learn with anybody elses clothing than his own ,,,,,,,,dh believes he has flu coming on !! Grin .....I will update shortly !!!.

VV nice goodies Smile and very lovely delivery driver Grin.

2gorgeousboys · 22/08/2011 20:39

Ours arrived today too. Very impressed with the goodies for me. It's DH's 40th birthday today so wrapped it up and presented it to him Grin. He was very excited with the tool box type case and not so impressed with the contents. Am letting them off ironing tonight as we're celebrating but when I'm back to work tomorrow I shall be leaving them a pile to do.

BuckBuckMcFate · 22/08/2011 23:45

Mine came this morning too. I'd been out for a stroll with the dc and saw the ups van at the top of the road and shouted "I bet that's the iron!" and legged it up the street carrying nearly 2 stone of baby. Driver seemed a bit bemused about why the arrival of a new iron had caused such mass excitement.

We were all impressed with the goodies and the box, DS2 already claiming the box and DD bagsied the confetti.

DS1 is away at the moment so he'll have to wait to try it out. DP lifted it, said "good weight, long wire, big water jug" ironed his shirt for tomorrow "lots of steam, good pointy end for getting in under the collar". I hope the feedback is in multiple choice as I think that's as good as it'll get. Smile

I'm very impressed with it, though did cheat and just iron the baby clothes as they're so small and it feels like I've done loads.

jasper · 23/08/2011 22:25

Thank you , Philips for the lovely Iron.

I look forward to reviewing it.

And thanks too for the box of gifts which I gave to my wee girl. She is absolutely thrilled.

In the meantime my normally uncommunicative DH sent me a text from work saying
"Now that's what I call an iron"

nickschick · 24/08/2011 15:30

RESULT with ds2 - he loves the iron and ironed several things voluntarily yesterday - I did catch ds1 looking at it suspiciously I suspect that come the weekend hes going to need a polo shirt ironed Grin and then his ironing education can begin- ds3 says his jeans are the flattest and smoothest ever-me >>>>Hmm and dh still has a very bad case of ironing phobia manflu.

insanityscatching · 24/08/2011 15:46

Ds has tried it too, he was most impressed with the box, less so with the iron but he has given it a go and has said he found it very easy to use and the steam facility to "my" iron Hmm is far superior. I have had a go too and agree it's better as well although it's possibly a bit heavy for my liking but I suppose that wouldn't be an issue with the men.

nevergoogle · 24/08/2011 18:00

STOP!!! how the hell am i supposed to plug it in? it has a funny plug on mine. it only arrived today via derby for some reason...and it's not wine it's bubble bath.
Am i being dim with the plug? I don't have a socket it fits in.

AnnMumsnet · 24/08/2011 18:13

nevergoogle · 24/08/2011 18:19
