1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?
Still very pleased with it - there have been no unpleasant surprises. Features I like best: the water and ice, the flip-up shelf on the left, the deep storage in the doors, and the general sense of spacious awesomeness. And we like the can rack, too (DP particularly likes it, for some reason). Oh, and the temperature controls - very reassuring somehow.
2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
Yes, I like them, and we use the one on the upper left shelf frequently in order to store backup large cartons of milk, juice, bottles of wine etc. I love being able to fit things in standing up as we could never do that with our old fridge, and it means you don't get leaks and spills. We're hosting the big family Christmas dinner this year for the first time, which would not have been possible if we didn't have the fridge, and I expect we will use the flip-up shelves a lot.
3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
I use it, but I am annoyed with myself for not having gotten the most out of it so far because I haven't retained the info from the manual about it. All the food in there (deli stuff) seems to be fine, but I need to re-read the manual and start using it properly.
I think the fault here is in how you're communicating the information to users; the manual is dismal to look at and sort of puts me off. The info on the fridge itself isn't sufficient to give me a feeling of fully understanding it (deli/fresh/chilled ... I don't think most people think of their groceries in these terms, and I'm not sure what the difference is).
4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
We just use them for fruit and veg (mostly veg, as we tend to keep fruit out on the counter) and yes, we've noticed an enormous difference in the life of what we buy. It's really good. I keep salad-type things in the left side and carrots, potatoes, broccoli etc on the right. Hadn't thought of storing onions there too, not sure why, but I will start. I'm clearly still not used to having such a lot of room :)
5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
Completely agree that the manual needs a proper overhaul, well-written text and four-colour presentation. It needn't be long or excessively detailed. It just needs to be attractive so that people want to read it. I do think you should invest in getting this right (and pay for a proper copy-edit on the text), because if customers don't feel inclined to read it they will just muddle along not using things properly (as I have done
), and may well end up blaming the appliance for their own failure to get the most out of it. Which will impact on what they say about it to other people.
Also agree that a quick, clear, accessible run-down of all the things about the fridge that might need maintaining or checking should be included. It would be really useful.
And yes, the ice dispenser could be a little less scary. I love it, but it's really damn loud.
6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Broadly speaking, I would, providing they were comfortable spending that amount of money. It has absolutely enhanced our lives.
The only thing that would make me hesitate in speaking up for it is the energy efficiency; I think someone said further back on this thread that it's not the highest rating, and that actually made me feel kind of guilty. I'm completely useless about green issues, but even so, I do always consider the number of A's in the rating to be an important factor in my decision-making when I buy an appliance. It may be just a reflex, but it's there in my head.
