NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 02/08/2011 09:46

This thread is for the MNers who have been testing a new Samsung G-series American-style fridge freezer.

This is the first stage of feedback, asking you for your initial impressions of the fridge freezer. The second stage of feedback will happen in a couple of months when you've had a while to get to know your new fridge freezer!

Below are some questions to get you started. Please feel free to add your own comments as well.

  1. What were your first impressions of the fridge freezer? What did your DP/DCs think? What did you like best about it? What didn't you like, and why?
  1. What do you think of the stainless steel finish? Do you prefer it to other finishes or is there a different finish you'd prefer?
  1. How are you finding the storage space available in the fridge and freezer? Are there any compartments/shelf arrangements you really like? Or any you'd prefer to be set up differently? Is there enough space to fit everything you want in it?
  1. How does the fridge freezer compare with your old one? Is there anything specific that's better or worse?
  1. What do you think of the LED display panel? Do you find it easy to use or not?
  1. And how about the cold water/ice dispenser - are you using it much? Does your family like having it or not?
  1. Where is the fridge freezer living in your home? Did you find it easy or difficult to find a space for it to fit in to?

Thanks very much for taking part,
MNHQ

That's what I noticed at first too WhipMeIndiana!
There is so much frost on the packets and boxes in the freezer drawer now - not what you would expect in a new freezer and also a lot of ice and frost building up on the drawer runners! Something is not right! Sad
I looked in the manual and it said maybe vent was blocked - I am assuming this is behind fridgypie so have moved it forward from wall a bit. No noticeable difference really so far. Confused
Family are banned from opening freezer - I am the only one allowed now so can make sure it is closed properly, in case that was causing the build up!

If not any improvements over weekend, will have to call Samsung...

WhipMeIndiana · 01/09/2011 20:53

my frost has gone meltier if that makes sense; less frost more clammy.
woonder if it's a settling down thing

pengymum · 02/09/2011 00:50

Well I called Samsung and they asked me to check the temps and set them on -18 and 4 which I have done. Then they said to wait a day or so and see if it gets any better and to call back if it doesn't. It hasn't got better or worse - is about the same really! Hmm
I also happened to be in Currys and spoke to someone there about freezers frosting up and he reckoned that something might be blocking a vent inside so I am going to empty it all out tomorrow and check that all is clear before I call
Samsung again.

It was all perfect before I went away and has only been funny since we got back. Looks like its just us with the frosty freezers Indy!
Sad

LaVitaBellissima · 02/09/2011 19:47

No mine is really frosty too Sad needs a good clean out, I'lll have a look at vents Confused

WhipMeIndiana · 04/09/2011 20:52

mine's settled down again now, was just rootling around in there to decide what I need to buy this week. wonder when we have to do the next feedback and what they'll want to know? Brew

pengymum · 04/09/2011 22:27

Hmm there is something funny going on with Fridgypie - maybe its not getting enough attention?
The frost is coming and going but not disappearing entirely! When I look at regular intervals, it gets less frosty. Then I think it has sorted itself out and next time I open the freezer, it has frosted up again!???

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 05/09/2011 15:14

Hi testers

We've already asked you for your initial impressions of the fridge freezer above. Now we're on to the second stage of feedback, now that you've had your fridge freezers for a while.

Below are some questions to get you started. Please feel free to add your own comments as well.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?
  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks very much for taking part,

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Still loving it! Its not actually as big as my old one, but the space is more sensibly used, so I dont find green cheese and slimey cucumbers lurking at the back anymore - the contents are far easier to see.

Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Water and ice have been great over summer. I also love the deep shelves on the doors.

Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not? Dare I mention the illusive pizza shelf? Grin. I dont know that I have really use the deli drawer to best potential - at the moment its for overflow veg!

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not? I havent changed mine at all, but I think I will do when I entertain.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not? I use the small section to store Cheese. I use the large section to store veg. I think I will use it more as time goes by and when I have chance to entertain.

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg? These are really great - I have duplicate items from todays shop (post holiday) because I didnt think the items in the draw would have been OK after 10 days hols - but they look great! Also havent had issues with half frozen veg!

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what? Id like to be able to open the small pantry drawer independantly, so I could open just one side of the fridge. But its not a major issue. Naturally, a wine rack would be a handy addition... Grin

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not? I do like the pragmatic use of space in the fridge - its been designed around people, not just for its good looks. The interior has oodles of clever storage, and different temp/humidity zones for different foodstuffs.

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

i still really like it. ice lolly shelf is a family favourite. i use the internal fridge door shelves for medicine and make up as they are high enough to keep out of reach of my 3 year old. i use the fruit humidity drawers a lot and find myself not binning. fruit as it stays fresher longer. haven't moved folding shelves about as not had need to yet.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

i think they are a good idea but i haven't needed to use them yet due to vast space available in fridge.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

sometimes but its mostly used for corn tortillas once opened things like that.

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

i use these drawers a lot. i keep my bananas in one drawer and other fruit in the other as the bananas cause the other fruit to go off faster. not binning fruit any more as it stays fresher for longer. i only use them for fruit.

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

i buy lots of cans of coke and 2L bottles of coke if there was a particular place i could put them where they wouldn't roll against other items that would be good for me.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes i would. most friends and family are really impressed and a bit jealous. its a really good product but like all things its hard to understand the retail price being so high. for £1800 most people i know would get a new kitchen. spending £1800 on a fridge feels a lot. most of my acquaintance spend about £250-400 on a fridge. cost being the main thing that decides what they pick.

WhipMeIndiana · 05/09/2011 18:10
  1. what do I think of fridge now I've had it a while?
I love it. I am proud of it, all family and visiting friends are violently jealous of it. It is easy to see the food in there, and easy to rotate food for freshness; it holds huge amounts that make it convenient for our family and all their different food and drinks. it still looks amazing, the freezer is easy to use now I have it organised; useful features - big shelves, 2 of the 3 drawers (one salads/one veg/ and the bottom one doesn't really inspire me as yet, have a few potatoes in it, and the odd wine bottle but haven't used it as much as the other two drawers. I have a feeling ham should go in there, but I'm not sure, need to re-read the instructions.. the lolly pocket is beloved by my 3yr old boy, he knows exactly where to get lollies out...would love a child door lock on that freezer as it is right at his height and hugely entertaining to him with the sparkly disco lights.
  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
I have not moved any shelves around, as the fridge fits all my sized food, from chickens/cans of coke/ big yogurts etc without adjustment. don't feel super confident in doing it, actually, would hate to crack something
  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
is that the bottom drawer? if so, then occasionally, it has a few odds and sods within it's depths. I don't really know which temps. are best for which foodstuffs to be honest, and is the difference actually noticeable with a fractional degree difference? I remain unconvinced. Yet; may change my mind in the future, I need to have a minute to myself to get the instructions out/google some food storage tips.
  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
tomatoes last a whole week longer. that is amazing, and garlic kept fresher for longer...and broccoli didn't go black I don't keep any fruit in the drawers, have strawberries on the top shelf for some reason. and melons just float around the usual shelves, I don't think they fit in the drawers...I don't keep apples/pears in fridge. I keep bags of salad in the left one; and onions garlic and baking potatoes in the right;
  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

where is the mysterious pizza pocket? is it just the flat bottom of the freezer on the left side? hmmmm. It could do with a glamorous little wine rack to hold up to 5 bottles... and a lock on front doors to stop naughty inquisitive little hands accessing .. we discussed having a sparkling water tap earlier on thread, but think that is an impossible dream

WhipMeIndiana · 05/09/2011 18:23

oops forgot to ask if one small improvement could be made with the weightings on the doors - I wish the doors would swing shut more easily, they seem to need more of a push than I instinctively give them each time so the alarm is usually pinging away after retrieving something from inside. On my old samsung side by side American model, the door swung themselves shut. I'm quite used to that action.

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

Still really like it. Am finding the water and ice dispenser indispensable. Grin Really increased our water intake and we never run out of ice anymore. Quite like the blast freeze/fridge option too to get things down to temperature quickly.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

They're a nice extra but, I don't use them very much to be honest

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Have used it, not terribly much can see it being more useful when hosting a party and needing space for a platter. Have not changed the temp at all

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

Yes, they are excellent. Fruit lasting a lot longer. Am very happy with them. Use the left hand one for meat. Also excellent

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

DH suggested a soda stream type device so that there is sparkling water on tap too. Grin I would LOVE that especially as I am pregnant and find myself drinking a lot of sparkling water 'as a treat' oh and a wine rack. We haven't had much need for one as DH is keeping his home brew beer, outside in the old fridge and I'm preggers but would love one for when I'm no longer teetotal.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I definitely would, but do think that the price is prohibitive for most people, especially now. I can't see many people being able to justify that amount of money on one appliance.

pengymum · 05/09/2011 20:44

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

We love it! Like the alarm and child lock but not much use to us as the kids sussed it out before I did. Like the extra deep door shelves - can fit the large milk and juice containers in without a problem. Also like the smaller door shelves as can put dressings etc in there and don't get 'lost'
I think there is slightly less useable space in the fridge, compared to my previous fridge/freezer but I prefer the layout of the Samsung as shelves are more visible and higher up and I don't have to bend down as much. Haven't really changed the temp much as yet as still getting used to it. Kids find the lolly pocket very handy! So do I actually as I can see how much they have managed to polish off! Haven't been able to fit a pizza in there though!

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

Yes they are very handy - when we have had internet shop delivered, have to put the extra bottles/juice cartons in and can fit more in upright. Also if have too many bottles for door, can fit in the main part of fridge. Also if have large casserole that I want to put in, can flip up section without moving entire contents around

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Have used it, for cheese, butter and chicken/turkey slices but just an extra drawer really - not changed the divider or temp as yet as didn't realise we could or should! Need to reread the manual I think!

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

Fruit doesn't last long in this house as gets eaten up! But I like the size of the drawers (had similar in my previous fridge). I put potatoes, onions and garlic etc in one and salad and some fruit in the other. Melons etc are in the main body and bananas are kept outside.

Can you think of any features that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

A soda stream type device for sparkling water on tap would be fab. Would need a more effective child lock though as the kids would be using it all day!
Also the ice maker could be a little smoother in operation. Is ok once you have got the hang of it but is a pain for first time users. My freezer keeps frosting up and I haven't yet found out the reason why even though I have spoken to Samsung Customer Service.

A password controlled child lock on the fridge and freezer drawer would be appreciated in this house - kids have taken to opening the various doors and just admiring the contents! Also I was sure that this was the reason for the frosting! So have since kept a strict eye on things and double checked that the drawer is closed properly but that is not the cause of the problem.

A forward pointing water spout so can fill bottles of water easily would be useful.

A better manual is a must - an appliance of this calibre and price needs a more comprehensive and better presented manual and a more detailed section on how to use the deli drawer would be useful. A more detailed troubleshooting section would be appreciated. Also clear pictures of the vents, sections that need to be cleaned/maintained or kept clear, so that you can identify and check all the various bits. With current technology, pictures of the actual appliance parts are a must. Also a little pocket at the side or back to store the manual would be great - so is always to hand. I have now put mine in a clear plastic folder and stuck it to the back with self adhesive velcro so don't have to hunt around for it when I need to check something.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely would recommend and have done already, friends love it and are very envious but the current price is major stumbling block for most people, particularly in the current economic climate.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I still love the fridge freezer, really like the cool select pantry, veg drawers & water & ice. Still have no idea about the pizza pocket Confused and I don't really understand the sliding shelf, why do you need it to slide out? As I mentioned previously on the thread, I think that the fridge should come with a proper shiny instruction manual, Samsung phones come with great manuals/instructions, when paying £1,800 for an appliance I would expect more.

  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

I have the shelf up at the moment as I've got some wine standing there but I don't like how it looks, would prefer to keep it flat and put the wine in a rack.

  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Yes love this, DP is Italian so we have a lot of salami, pancetta, speck etc in one side and loads of cheeses in the other side. All seems fine but I'm not sure what temp it should be on.

  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

We eat a lot of veg so I have one side for salad veg and one side for veg, it's keeping much better, but again am a bit unsure what setting I should have them on which could of been explained in the manual.

  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

Definitely include a wine rack, and option to not have the can rack as we don't usually buy cans but I now feel I have to otherwise it looks empty and I like a full looking fridge Smile

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, but they need to sort the issues with the freezer icing up

fishie · 05/09/2011 21:37
  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?
I really adore it, the space is so well laid out. We've moved it to the end of the kitchen, half way along it stuck out too much. Love the water and ice. It is a bit dramatic in production but we always let a bit of extra ice out at the end, dog loves it. The horizontal storage focus is brilliant, I used to have to spend ages fitting things in and piling them up, here I can see it all. I buy less food because I am more aware of what is already at hand. I find top of freezer door v useful surface when putting shopping away or gathering for cooking.
  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
I hadnt realised they are flexible. Had such a nightmare getting the lh veg box back in when I took it out that I'm very wary of moving shelves. Also I havent wanted to, it is all able to store things no problem. Agree the lolly shelf is v useful.
  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
I use this a lot. Lh for raw meat, rh for cooked and sometimes overflow wine (I've got a separate little bar fridge). I keep it on the coldest setting.
  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
Amazing, I havent thrown any veg away at all. Before it was all freezing and dreadul wastage. Lettuce is keeping for weeks! Sweetcorn which I would usually expect to eat in a day or so is lasting well. Hard veg in lh, soft in rh. Dont refridgerate soft fruit inthe drawers if at all. I keepy citrus, ginger and garlic in the top compartment of lh door.
  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
I dont like the way the top drawer opens on the freezer when opening door. Nor the difficulty of getting the lh veg drawer back in. The manual is shit, I want a web-based guide to explain what to do with shelves, how to use the settings and store different types of food. Oh I have seen the new Samsung ff ad in a US mag, its got a sort of ipad thingy. Could someone pop round with one of them?
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend. Is much better built than my previous two ff, Indesit and John Lewis. Worth paying more I have discovered, although obvo £1.8k a bit strong. And of course it comes up in conversation, I am so thrilled and delighted to have it. If I were given the money to choose for myself I'd be very likely to spend it on Samsung beastie.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?
The love affair continues! It is great to be able to fit in a week's shop with ease. The cold water and ice is easily the best feature for us and has been great at getting us all, especially DS, to drink more water. The child lock is an absolute must, DS would have flooded the kitchen several times by now without it.
  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
I find this very useful, although have not moved them around since I originally set them up for my needs. I should think that this will change at busy times ike Christmas, when I have more to accomodate.
  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
Yes, use it for cold/fresh meat, fresh pasta and overflow fruit and veg. I do change the temperature but really just guessing at which is the right setting as the instruction manual is a bit useless.
  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
Yes, definitely find that things last longer. Again, I am just guessing at what I am doing with the settings as the manual isn't at all helpful
  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
A decent manual. I suspect that I am not making best use of the features because I don't have enough info.
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, would definitely recommend but I think the cost would be prohibitive for most.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I love the fridge freezer, love the water & ice and the space. Can rack is a bit of a waste would prefer a wine rack. Manual shocking really needs more info.

  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

I have the shelf up for wine wine standing but would prefer a rack!.

  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Yes but it's hit or miss on the temp as no clear instructions on how to use it, that said everything is keeping a lot longer!.

  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

ALways use them for fruit and veg and keeping really well

  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

Definitely include a wine rack,

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, but the freezer icing up is a bit of a pain not quite sure why will call samsung and ask I think. I have a pic on my phone so I can bore people with the beauty of it whenever I can!

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I am still in love with it! I love the space and flexibility it. The water filter and ice maker is definitely the best feature. The huge vegetable drawers are also a godsend with all the fruit and vegetables we have.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
I do occasionally if I have big bottles/cartons of juice, but on the whole I leave them as they are. There is quite a lot of space already so there is no need.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Yes I do. I keep the kids yoghurts, Frubes, ham and cheese in the Pantry section. I haven't changed the temperature.

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

Definitely. The fruit and veg are lasting longer than usual. Also I can see all the items in there a lot better. I am throwing a lot less out now. I don't use the drawers for anything else.

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

As mentioned by others, the freezer does seems to ice up and bit, so that needs to be looked at. Wine rack would be a useful addition, as well as a egg holder. You could have a removable one so people who didn't use it could take it out. Also a small shelf to stand the glass on when you dispense water or ice. The manual is dire and needs to be vastly improved. Poor quality instructions for a high-spec fridge is not right. And more space for cans.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would. Aesthetically it looks superb and the space and design is exceptional. It is perfect for families and has lots of great features.

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?
Still very, very happy with it. The best thing is the sheer amount of space (fridge particularly) and the deep storage in the doors - brilliant for dressings/preserves etc. We have used pretty much all of the features (I think!) but probably not as well as we should - see comments below re: CoolSelect pantry & humidity controlled drawers.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
With the amount of space there is, we have not had to re-configure the shelves, apart from the slidy shelf. This is permanently back to allow us to store 2l containers of drinks (they are just a smidge too tall to fit in the doors) and wine.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
Erm, not as intended I'm sure... there is enough space for our cheeses on the top shelf (where it is easier to access without pulling the drawer out); so I'm afraid the drawer is full of flatbreads and tortillas on one side and beer bottles on the other! As such, we haven't tried changing the temp. I'm sure this drawer will be v useful at Christmas and for other parties for large puddings/platters.

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
Ours are crammed full of stuff, and yes, veg in particular seems to last extremely well. I'm not sure if I really understand what particular products should be stored at high or low humidity though - a bit more detail in the manual would have been useful. We use one for fruits and one for veg, no room for anything else, with herbs and overflow going into the CoolSelect pantry.

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
Faster water dispenser - the flow of water is very slow; and could do with being more angled out.
Better ice dispenser - the ice tends to spit over the kitchen floor.
Heavier doors - the fridge doors need quite a lot of force for them to close - on my old fridge I used to be able to just nudge the door then walk off and they would close, wheras now they close to within an inch or two but no further without another push.
A wine rack please!
I'd love it if the freezer was a frost free one - I assumed that at this price point it would be, but there is now a lot of ice crystals in there and on my food.
That sounds like a long list of faults but overall I really love the Samsung - this is just minor niggles and 'nice-to-haves'.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I'd happily recommend the Samsung to friends - I've been doing quite a good job already! I think it is a solidly built, with well thought-out internal storage (particlarly the fridge). The chilled water and ice maker is also brilliant. However, the price tag is way above what I would usually spend (it costs more than my last car!), and suspect that this would be a barrier for most of my friends too.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I still love it! Theres so much space, the lighting is wonderful - especially the light up water dispenser thingy at night . I also love the can rack in the door as it frees up space in the fridge for other things. I havent quite got the hang of the humidty control thing yet, or the buttons to the side of the bottom tray - I store different things in the drawer but I'm always a bit unsure which button to press Blush. Love the little pocket inside the freezer door aswell for storing ice lollies. The flexible shelving is good too but thats question 2....

  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

They're brilliant. We have quite a few bottles in our fridge and in the old fridge we would have to lie them down. This quite often caused things to leak. With this fridge we can move the shelves around so that everything fits in!

  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

See question 1, I havent quite got the hang of that yet. Not even really sure when I'd need to use it. All of the food I've had in there has been fine though so I'm either doing something right or, it doesnt really make any difference?

  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

Yes, fruit is being kept noticeably longer by keeping it in there. Tomatoes too. Havent noticed too much with anything else. I havent stored anything else in there other than fruit and veg as theres so much room in the rest of the fridge that I dont need to!

  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

I would love a wine rack! Would also like a drainage pipe or something on the ice/water dispenser so that the tray at the bottom didnt need to be emptied. I also think that the doors could shut better, they have been left open before and we havent noticed until the alarm sounded. You have to actually push them completely closed rather than them having a swing-shut type design. Also as previously mentioned, the sides of the fridge/freezer are quite unsightly, would be much better if they were stainless steel too.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely! It's an amazing beast, looks wonderful and does the job well.

Thank you again MN and Samsung!

Still love the ridge freezer, the novelty has not warn off yet and I still smile when I walk in to the room and see it. I use all the features that I'm aware of. I love the freezer despite my initial reservations. The whole family use the chilled water and ice feature every day. We all drink more water now
  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?
I don't really move the shleves about now, I arranged them to suit me and haven't felt the need to change them yet. Probably will when we have a party to cater for, or at Christams
  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?
I store lots of things in the pantry, it's very useful. The main disadvantage being that the fridge looks empty despite that fact that I've just been shopping and their is food hidden in there! I don't change the temperature very often, only when I remember
  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?
Fruit and veg seems to stay fresh for longer, I think, although my dh thinks I'm just convincing myself of that. I only use those drawers for fruit and veg
  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?
Another poster mentioned how brilliant it would be to be able to get chilled sparkling water and I too think that is a great idea. More places to store large bottles of wine would be useful too
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would and I do, everyone who comes to our house is taken to 'meet' the new fridge freezer. I am actually proud of it! All my friends and family seem to like it and tell me how lucky I am. It looks smart, it stores masses of food and provides chilled water and ice....what's not to like!

Still love the fridge freezer, love the water & ice and the space. I would prefer a wine rack had been included. As stated before the manual is really bad.

  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

I put the shelf up to store tall things like bottles of juice!.

  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

No clear instructions on how to use it, I use it for wine!.

  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

Yes definitely, much fresher for longer

  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

Definitely include a wine rack, also I find the depth of the freezer a bit tricky when trying to find stuff.

Yes I would.

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I still love it! The ice and water feature is the most useful I think - all cold drinks at our house now come with ice - I love the fact that there's a choice of cubed or crushed! The space is brilliant too - I've got a lot more frozen goods now than I could have with my old fridge freezer.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

I haven't configured the shelves to any particular layout. I should probably do this, but given there's so much space in the fridge, it doesn't really seem necessary to move things around.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

I use it occasionally, but I'm still not entirely sure what should go into it and how I should adjust the temperature of it.

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

The vegetables and fruit do appear to stay fresher in the drawers. We also use the drawers for other items too, if we need the space.

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

There should be better storage for wine bottles, tall cartons, milk cartons etc. The space in the doors isn't enough and it's not high enough either, which means that a number of bottles and cartons are lying down on the shelves which isn't ideal. Some kind of built in rack would be great. Also, a drain mechanism beneath the water dispenser to catch overflow/splashes and allow them to drain away.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd definitely recommend it. Family and friends have heard all about it and come over to look at it. All my colleagues are very envious! It's an incredible product and I'm so grateful that we have it in our kitchen!

1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

Still very pleased with it - there have been no unpleasant surprises. Features I like best: the water and ice, the flip-up shelf on the left, the deep storage in the doors, and the general sense of spacious awesomeness. And we like the can rack, too (DP particularly likes it, for some reason). Oh, and the temperature controls - very reassuring somehow.

2. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

Yes, I like them, and we use the one on the upper left shelf frequently in order to store backup large cartons of milk, juice, bottles of wine etc. I love being able to fit things in standing up as we could never do that with our old fridge, and it means you don't get leaks and spills. We're hosting the big family Christmas dinner this year for the first time, which would not have been possible if we didn't have the fridge, and I expect we will use the flip-up shelves a lot.

3. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

I use it, but I am annoyed with myself for not having gotten the most out of it so far because I haven't retained the info from the manual about it. All the food in there (deli stuff) seems to be fine, but I need to re-read the manual and start using it properly.

I think the fault here is in how you're communicating the information to users; the manual is dismal to look at and sort of puts me off. The info on the fridge itself isn't sufficient to give me a feeling of fully understanding it (deli/fresh/chilled ... I don't think most people think of their groceries in these terms, and I'm not sure what the difference is).

4. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

We just use them for fruit and veg (mostly veg, as we tend to keep fruit out on the counter) and yes, we've noticed an enormous difference in the life of what we buy. It's really good. I keep salad-type things in the left side and carrots, potatoes, broccoli etc on the right. Hadn't thought of storing onions there too, not sure why, but I will start. I'm clearly still not used to having such a lot of room :)

5. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

Completely agree that the manual needs a proper overhaul, well-written text and four-colour presentation. It needn't be long or excessively detailed. It just needs to be attractive so that people want to read it. I do think you should invest in getting this right (and pay for a proper copy-edit on the text), because if customers don't feel inclined to read it they will just muddle along not using things properly (as I have done Grin), and may well end up blaming the appliance for their own failure to get the most out of it. Which will impact on what they say about it to other people.

Also agree that a quick, clear, accessible run-down of all the things about the fridge that might need maintaining or checking should be included. It would be really useful.

And yes, the ice dispenser could be a little less scary. I love it, but it's really damn loud.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Broadly speaking, I would, providing they were comfortable spending that amount of money. It has absolutely enhanced our lives.

The only thing that would make me hesitate in speaking up for it is the energy efficiency; I think someone said further back on this thread that it's not the highest rating, and that actually made me feel kind of guilty. I'm completely useless about green issues, but even so, I do always consider the number of A's in the rating to be an important factor in my decision-making when I buy an appliance. It may be just a reflex, but it's there in my head.

  1. What do you think of your fridge freezer now that you've had it for a while? Which features do you find particularly useful and why? Are there any features that you haven't used? If so, why not?

I'm still very happy with it. I particularly like the variable shelving inside the fridge. We haven't used the ice as much as I expected, which is largely because we had to throw away the first batch which was made before we flushed the filter properly, so it tasted horrid. I still instincively get water from the tap rather than the fridge, although that is slowly changing. We haven't had reason to use the pantry yet, which, as it occupies the full width of the fridgen and so needs both doors open to access, I would only use if I actually needed it. Also, I haven't made full use of the doors yet, as the door shelves all broke on our last fridge so I am wary of overloading them. The door shelves are very big, but for me that means more weight and more chance of damaging them. Having said that, they look robust, and I am getting braver about putting heavier items in the door shelves. If I am honest, the fact that the fridge is in the utility room rather than the kitchen means that it hasn't been used as much as I anticipated.

  1. Do you like the flexible shelving options or not? Do you find that you change their configuration around much or not?

Yes, the flexible shelving is one of my favourite features. I have made some changes to accommodate additional bottles. I found that some bottles fell over if left in the door, so tend to use the fact that there's still loads of space in the body of the fridge and keep bottles in there, rather than in the door.

  1. Do you use the CoolSelect Pantry? If so, do you change the temperature on it much? If you don't use it, why not?

Not yet used, as mentioned above, as I haven't needed it. Also issue of having to open both doors means that I will only use this when other options have been exhausted, or if I really needed the temperature differential.

  1. Have you noticed any difference in how well your fruit and vegetables keep when you store them in the humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers? Do you use these drawers for anything else as well/instead of fruit and veg?

I have found that everything keeps longer in this fridge, including fruit and veg. However, our old fridge was pretty useless at holding its temperature. But it's fair to say that I have been very pleased to find fruit and veg keeping so well. Even grapes which seem to normally go off very quickly are keeping well here. I still have absolutely no idea how to actually make use of the humidity control, or what the significance of it is.

  1. Can you think of any features/settings etc that could improve your fridge freezer? If so, what?

Can I just say that I like the can holder and wouldn't want the wine rack that others have mentioned! I would have appreciated the pizza holder if that had existed as per the manual. An egg rack would be useful too. A more effective child lock would be useful. I would also be more inclined to use the water dispenser if it was easier to fill bottles without soaking my feet! And to echo others' comments, the manual is not really up to the job - poor quality printing and descriptions that don't match the product.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend your Samsung fridge freezer to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, most definitely. I like the three door style, with the wide fridge. I also find the freezer easy to access. Overall I have been very pleased with the design, and especially by the true cold of the fridge and freezer.

Other comments:
My DH has commented that the freezer makes a loud clonk as it closes, as the inner drawer comes to a halt before the outer door; I can't say I had noticed until he pointed this out.
