We have a very exciting product test for you...We've been asked by Samsung to find 30 Mumsnetters to try out their new G-Series American-style fridge freezer (average selling price £1,800) in their home and give feedback on Talk. Everyone who is selected to take part and adds their feedback will get to keep the fridge freezer forever!

This is what Samsung says about the product: "With the new G-Series three door American-style fridge freezer, you will get lots more storage space thanks to thin wall insulation technology. You also get the benefit of some really clever features, all designed to make your life easier. A plumbed dispenser gives you chilled and filtered ice and water on tap, foldable shelves mean you can fit all your food and drink in irrespective of their size, shape, width or breadth, and FreshSafe Vegetable drawers give you the best humidity levels to preserve vitamins and nutrients in any fruits and vegetables you?re storing. Even better is the CoolSelect Pantry which acts as a mini fridge within a fridge. It?s an independently controlled drawer which can be set to three different temperatures, so you can be sure you are storing your food at the right temperature."

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in mainland UK
  • Be willing to provide two lots of feedback (once when the fridge freezer has just been delivered and again after a couple of months) which will appear on MN and may be used for marketing by Samsung (they will link to the feedback thread from their website - you can namechange for the feedback if you like)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with Samsung) for delivery
  • Have space, electricity and a cold water supply (for ice and water dispenser) for a fridge freezer this size in your kitchen (or wherever it would live) - click here for more information on dimensions etc

If you are selected to take part, the fridge freezer will be delivered free of charge but Samsung aren't able to remove any old appliances so you would need to arrange for any existing fridge freezer occupying the space to be removed yourself.

You will get to keep the new fridge freezer once the product test is finished - so long as you add at least 2 lots of feedback on Mumsnet. Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the fridge freezer, the flexibility of the storage space inside it, any features you particularly like etc.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

I'm going to wait until I've spoken to Samsung. I'm sure they'll tell us if we need to sort anything from our side.

TheRealMBJ · 15/07/2011 17:44

Just got the call! Yay. It is coming on Thursday. GrinGrinGrin

But in my excitement I neglected to ask about the damn plumbing. Doh.

My cold water source is 2m away in the middle of the room. My dishwasher is currently plumbed into it. It is accessible under the floor boards. Would this be a problem?

MadameBoo · 15/07/2011 21:25

I had my call today :o. But no 'site survey' questions. I asked lots anyway and she wasn't able to answer some of them - but said not to worry as all would be fine. Anyway, Thursday is D-day here too. So bloomin' excited!

TherealMBJ I think that they will be coming prepared for any eventuality.

TheRealMBJ · 15/07/2011 21:27

She did ask me about access to the kitchen though. I'm sure they will come prepared too actually. I can't bloody wait!

MadameBoo · 15/07/2011 21:29

I think we probably spoke to the same lady! She said she was calling to arrange delivery - and I did ask her about connecting it to the water supply, she then said 'oh, do you want installation as well then' and I said yes and she said that was no problem. I got the impression she didn't know it was a competition prize - did you?

TheRealMBJ · 15/07/2011 21:39

Yes, I did. It seemed as if she thought I'd just bought it. She probably works in a call-centre and is given the absolute minimum amount of information.

WhippedCream · 15/07/2011 22:05

still not heard... ... ooh thursday is fridge blast-off day for some of you! how lovely.

DeepPurple · 15/07/2011 22:13

I got my call today. They offered me Thursday but I'm away. They are coming a week on Tuesday instead. Excited!

Tequilamockinbird · 16/07/2011 10:13

Still no call here, getting excited now though Grin

MadameBoo · 16/07/2011 19:18

Did they ask you about plumbing Purple? My friend says that when she bought her big fridge (also a samsung) - they just came and dumped it outside her house. Hmm

DirtyMartini · 16/07/2011 19:59

Mm, I think I'm gonna continue to assume we need a plumber's involvement. I cannot imagine that the delivery guys will be ready or able to actually take up bits of floor or whatever.

But I knew when I entered that if we got one of the fridges we would prob have to pay something to sort the plumbing bit, so that is OK.

Possibly won't be such an issue for people with a less stupid kitchen layout than ours though :)

MadameBoo · 16/07/2011 23:13

Ours is pretty stupid but we have thought of a couple of solutions so it should be ok :)

TheRealMBJ · 16/07/2011 23:18

Ours is fine really. It's just attaching the fridge to the water source that will be slightly more complex.

Nowhere in the survey did itnsay that the water source had to be ready and waiting though. Just asked whether there is a cold water source within 4m. I assumed that is because the length of tubing is 4m but that they would send someone with to attach the whole thng.

NewGirlHelenMN could you clarify for us please?

TheRealMBJ · 16/07/2011 23:19

On Monday, obv, when you are back at work Grin

Pekkala · 16/07/2011 23:20

no call for me yet.
Which is probably good as DP is currently stomping around the kitchen humphing as we have to shift the dishwasher to make space near the water supply. A small price to pay, methinks.

There is the manual for it here:
downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201103/20110319085334393/DA99-03403A_v0.0.pdf

There was some conflicting measurements on the tech specs page of the website re: depth. This is what's in the manual:
The width is 908mm
The depth is 614+87=701; plus handles (which I think take it to the 712mm shown on the tech specs page)

MadameBoo · 16/07/2011 23:22

Do you think they pop in to MNtalk at weekends, just for fun though. I mean, we all do don't we? :o

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/07/2011 23:24

I haven't had a call yet - will have to speak to them and see if we need a plumbers involvement. I think a load of work will need to be done - like ripping up floorboards or something.

TheRealMBJ · 16/07/2011 23:32

Yes, we'll need some floor boards ripped up (Probably)

leelo · 17/07/2011 00:00

haven't been called by samsung yet. nervous about delivery as afraid they'll bring it not get it to fit or say you have no water supply. all this and my DH is complaining as our half destructed kitchen will need to be moved about to accomodate this amazing prize. he's such a killjoy.

Al0uiseG · 17/07/2011 09:04

Oh Mumsnet, you should have picked me, I have an alcove waiting with a power supply and water supply hose ready to be connected. No plumber needed, no flooring to be ripped up.

fishie · 17/07/2011 10:40

yes my dh doing lots of toothsucking too. Amazing how they'll look a gift fridge in the mouth isn't it. i am expecting them to plumb it in.

said · 17/07/2011 12:03

Hmm, see, I too have a builder and plumber ready and waiting, free wall and exposed floorboards already. No kitchen to move around. Did mn listen? Well, did they? Did they?

TheRealMBJ · 17/07/2011 13:45

Ah,well you see, I too have already exposed floorboards. But that is because DH has continued to postpone doing the flooring for months and months Grin

Al0uiseG · 17/07/2011 15:39

Every cloud has a silver lining then MBJ :o

Pekkala · 17/07/2011 19:02

DP has stopped humphing and we now have a fridge freezer shaped hole right next to a ready and waiting cold water pipe connector thingy.
And the walls are painted. And there are new worktops. And new lino ready to be laid in the next day or two. So this product test is bloody brilliant as it's got us off our arses and actually doing stuff we've said we were 'going to get round to' for the past 2 years.
