We have another exciting product test for you - we are looking for 40 Mumsnetters who don't already have a Wii at home but would like to take part in "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo.

Nintendo say they "are keen to offer Wiis to 40 MN families to encourage them to spend fun time together as a family as well as give them the opportunity to test out some great games". If you already have a Wii, please look out for the feedback thread for this project as Nintendo would like to hear your views too (in exchange for a prize draw Grin).

If you are selected for the test you'll be sent a Wii console, handsets and nunchucks for all the family plus the following games:

uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio
Mario Kart
Kirby's Epic Yarn, and
Just Dance Jnrs

We'd then like you to take part in 4 weekly challenges with the Wii. This will involve playing with one game per week and adding your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

The challenge will start week commencing 4 July and last for 4 weeks - so please only apply if you are able to add feedback every week in July.

Ideally we're looking for MNers in the UK with at least 2 children.

After the challenge is completed and you have added at least 4 lots of feedback you will be able to keep the console and games for your family to enjoy.

In addition, we will need 10 of the families selected to film themselves and their family playing with the Wii. These videos will be used on the Nintendo pages on Mumsnet in the autumn and possibly elsewhere (they will be hosted on YouTube). If you are willing to undertake the video element please indicate this on the form link below. You will be supplied with a FlipCam (which will need to be returned). You will be briefed on filming requirements but it shouldn't be too onerous.

To sign up please add your details here

Good luck and many thanks

MNHQ

Sad
ShatnersBassoon · 28/06/2011 14:25

Tiffany, I might not tell them actually! They'll think I've taken a leave of my senses if they come home one day to find me Wii-ing in the living room Grin

PippiLongBottom · 28/06/2011 14:26

I hope the other emails I am waiting for (my first year uni exam results) prove to be more joy filled. Or actually arrive come to think of it.

Ugh I am gutted. And stroppy like a teenager

SharonGless · 28/06/2011 14:30

Unless of course you sent the email to my other secret email account - hang on just let me check..... nope definitely not.
Sounds about right.
Got so excited at the thought of it and just wasted about 36 hours of my life hoping had won!
The preloved ones on game may be a good idea - joins Pippi and strops off to search the internet

SeenButNotHeard · 28/06/2011 14:31

Did you get an email or PM? - can't access my emails at the moment...

PippiLongBottom · 28/06/2011 14:34

Nada.

SeenButNotHeard · 28/06/2011 14:42

Trying not to be too disappointed.

Would really love to know how these things are decided - seems that some people got chosen even if they did not meet the wish list of at least two children.

I must be doing something wrong in my applications Sad

Hope you all have fun.

PippiLongBottom · 28/06/2011 14:45

I have three children. And a ps3 addicted husband. I so wanted it, to get him off his playstation. We have the most brand new up to date TV to have showcased it on.

Oh well 3dtv must equal much money, I'll just nip out and buy one.

BTW, I didn't mention the telly in the application.

Adair · 28/06/2011 14:49

We don't do any gaming/consoling here and I wrote something similar to Fennel in that I am not quite convinced about the merit of computer games. Perhaps they are looking for people who probably wouldn't buy one?

I feel guilty now - though have never won anything before!

Fennel · 28/06/2011 14:54

Yes Adair, I thought they might like a challenge, people who can be overwhelmed by the merits they didn't previously appreciate. Grin

I could use UnconvincedLuddite as my posting name on the thread. And then I might change it to ConvertedLuddite after a few weeks of realising how much better our family life is with a games console.

I think they might have just gone on quantity and ages of children though, we have 3 children of "wii" age, who are capable of giving quite thorough feedback on a video.

GypsyMoth · 28/06/2011 14:54

do we need to buy the wheel required for mario cart separately??

SeenButNotHeard · 28/06/2011 14:57

Oh Adair please don't feel guilty - I really am not trying to make anyone feel bad.

I am just genuinely interested in how these things get decided.

I also need to get a life and not spend any time convincing myself that I might get picked for these things Sad

Shock

we were selected Shock

dc will be over the flipping MOON

i have namechanged for this topic now. but i guess mnhq must have checked out posts to make sure people were telling the truth about not having any consoles?

its something i have previously discussed quite a bit, i tend to think consoles encourage children to be passive consumers of entertainment and i prefer mine to create their own tbh. but dc have been ON and ON at me for a console of some sort and i am considering caving in, and i know wiis are said to be more interactive than many, so i suppose i am their target market with this test.

WiiDram · 28/06/2011 15:11

oh btw that wasn't meant as an accusation that those not selected were all fibbing, not at all.

i was just interested cos i bet they had blardy thousands of applications Grin and i find we are quite unusual for having no ds/x box/ps/wii these days.

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 28/06/2011 15:14

Yes, we were winners, and we don't have any consoles at present. I can't remember what I wrote, something about getting the boys off the bloody sofa I expect.

PippiLongBottom · 28/06/2011 15:35

I wrote that I wanted to get DH off his ps3 and let the children play something together.

ProfYaffle · 28/06/2011 15:52

I put that dh likes gaming but on his pc, not on a console which has previously caused problems between us as it's such a solitary occupation. I said that as a result I've been wary of buying consoles for the dc but having seen bil's wii I thought it seemed more sociable than I'd previously thought.

I always assumed that MNHQ took all the applications that met the criteria (correct no of kids plus right 'outlook' for the survey in question) then they'd choose randomly from that pool.

Could be wrong though.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 28/06/2011 15:53

wow we were winners too! Shock I never win anything!

Agree re target audience: we don't have any consoles at all and we have 2 dds so we're ripe for the picking I suppose.

Am very pleased. We've had a very rough time recently and this will help cheer the dds up Smile

PippiLongBottom · 28/06/2011 15:59

No, they picked from people that only had one child too.

TheProvincialLady · 28/06/2011 16:12

Can I just say......wooo hoooo!

jasper1980 · 28/06/2011 16:18

Sadoh well. I got tomato seeds so maybe I tried another product test to soonEnvy well done to all who were pickedSmile

TheProvincialLady · 28/06/2011 16:26

I wrote that my DH is very unsure about games consoles in general (and we don't currently have anything) so it will be good to see whether he converts. But if he doesn't, who cares...the DC and I will have fun anyway. A thousand thanks.

stanausauruswrecks · 28/06/2011 16:33

Thank you!!!! I have always said you were my favourite MNHQer, Ann Grin DS is going to bust a blood vessel when he finds out!! GrinGrinGrin

IHeartKingThistle · 28/06/2011 16:57

Thank you so much!!! I remembered this morning that I'd started a thread a few months back criticising Nintendo's ad campaign for the DS. I thought that had scuppered it for sure!
