Multiple award winner Jim Parsons, who's best known for playing Sheldon Cooper in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, is in town to talk about his new film HOME.

Jim's going to be answering your questions direct to camera so now's your chance to get them down and line 'em up here. We'll select the best of the bunch and see what he has to say about The Big Bang Theory, HOME and all things quirky.

In his latest film, Jim will feature as the voice of Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet who lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people. An unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip (Rihanna) takes him on a series of comic adventures, and while he changes her planet and she changes his world, they discover the true meaning of the word HOME.

HOME will be released in cinemas across the UK on Friday 20th March 2015.

I know mumsnet gets some pretty big hitters but this is the first time I've cheered out loud - Jim Parsons!!!

We have lots of discussions in our house about which character is most like us. (I think I'm mostly a Leonard with a bit of Bernadette thrown in even if my boyfriend thinks I'm Sheldon with a bit of Penny) - which combination is close to the real you?

Also if you leave London during your UK trip you should come to Manchester - there's a road called Lord Sheldon Way and someone has put stickers of your face on the sign! Makes me smile every time I see it!

Bomother · 18/02/2015 07:46

Hi Jim, another house of Big Bang fans here and we particularly love Sheldon.
E4 (the channel that airs TBBT) seem to faff arounf with the program scheduling (which would surely be abhorrent to Sheldon himself!) by showing half a series and then taking a break. Even though we have series link set to record it fails sometimes. So my question is, to maintain the consistancy of the viewing could you please send me a signed boxset of TBBT?
Maybe a tad cheeky but if you don't ask....
Thanks Jim!

QuietNinjaTardis · 18/02/2015 08:29

Alicelidl it's got to be a Tardis surely? especially if David tennants doctor is in it

Jim, if you watch doctor who, who is your favourite doctor? If you dont watch doctor who then why the hell not?

Rumours · 18/02/2015 09:38

Hi Jim, huge TBBT fans in my house. Both my boys have high functioning autism and yours is the only 'normal' character! You are their favouriteSmile .

Why don't TBBT acknowledge that Sheldon is on the ASD spectrum?

Ps we can't wait to go and see Home, my eldest boy says it's going to be my birthday treatGrin

SomewhereIBelong · 18/02/2015 09:40

Are you - like Sheldon- a fan of sci-fi? Star Wars or Star Trek? Firefly or Battlestar Galactica?

p.s. my girls loved Sheldon's crossover into iCarly!!

SomewhereIBelong · 18/02/2015 11:30

Oh, and another Big bang one - in the event of the Zombie Apocalypse, which friend would you sacrifice first ...

(p.s. I would keep Bernadette - she'd wup them)

AliceLidl · 18/02/2015 11:49

QuietNinja well the TARDIS would be the more practical choice, and you'd be travelling in time and space and could go anywhere you wanted to go. And the addition of a Doctor would make even more perfect. I can't deny that.

But a Terminator. Imagine the use you could get out of a Terminator. Think of all those first world problems owning one would solve for AIBU.

Parking idiots would take one look at your Terminator and clear off sharpish, leaving you with a free parking space.

Pushy people in supermarkets would be leaving the aisles to you and your Terminator, you wouldn't have to queue with them at the checkout, and your Terminator would be also be pushing your trolley and carrying your bags.

People not replying to your child's birthday party invite would RSVP very quickly once you sent the Terminator round to ask them if their kids were coming or not. Although the downside of that is you might have Myleene Klass complaining that when she was young people didn't send Terminators, they sent unicorns.

And you wouldn't need to worry about neighbour disputes because all your neighbours would have mysteriously abandoned their homes once the Terminator had had a word about their trampoline being too close to your fence and their late night DIY noise keeping your dog awake.

I honestly can't see a downside to owning your own Terminator.

AliceLidl · 18/02/2015 11:55

And my own personal AIBU solver.

The people not cleaning up after their dogs on the streets we use for the school run.

Those people would be getting a visit that would see them scrubbing the streets with their own toothbrushes if they neglected to clean up ever again.

Skynet can't become self-aware soon enough for me Grin

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 18/02/2015 13:18

firstly, you are a very funny and talented man. I usually swerve the multi-season American sitcom, but tbbt makes me proper LOL

secondly, what the hell do you do to your skin. I'm only a couple of years older than you and I look like a haunted tree

thirdly, if anyone under this username comes on here and fawns shamelessly, IT ISN'T ME I'VE BEEN HACKED BY MY DAUGHTERS

honest

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 18/02/2015 13:25

this is off the point, but I think the women in tbbt are quite brilliant

they don't talk about boys! they get funny lines! they're not just there as a Sensible Female for Interesting/Funny/Daft Male to bounce off (which is very much a thing currently ime)

it's one of the few things on telly that doesn't make me and my baby feminist 11yo groan and roll our eyes

Huge fans of TBBT here as well.

My question, how do you manage to keep such a straight face when doing "Fun with flags". Does it take you many takes when you film it?

I just love when Amy became a regular on Fun with Flags. Hilarious!

Looking forward to going to see Home as well.

CookieLady · 18/02/2015 16:10

Another huge fan here.

What was it like working with Jack Black in The Big Year? Do you feel yhe roles offered to you have been limited by how successfully you brung to life the character of Sheldin Cooper?

Looking forward to seeing Home.

CookieLady · 18/02/2015 16:12

So sorry for typos! the *bring Blush

Honeydragon · 18/02/2015 17:28

I can't wait to see Home. I saw the trailer at the Cinema and the dc and I were "Hell Yeah, we're going". Hugely annoyed me that the voice was familiar, I had to google it when I got home.

My question is Big Bang Theory character related, so out of Sheldon, Leonard and Howard. Which one for Shag, Marry and Avoid? Grin

NorksAreMessy · 18/02/2015 18:16

Welcome to the UK Mr Parsons an thank you for giving the world Sheldon Cooper.
We absolutely love your physical comedy, both with your face (especially the no-teeth smile) and the way you use your whole body to just be amazingly FUNNY. How much if that is scripted, and how much do you get free reign to just go for it?

Fanjango · 18/02/2015 18:52

Huge Big Bang fans here, the kids all love it and you've made them smile even when off school ill, so thanks for that Grin
My question is, I know some shows incorporate some of the actors mannerisms and wonder if some of his catchphrases are based on phrases you yourself use.

FoxgloveFairy · 18/02/2015 21:42

Hello Jim. Haven't read all the 5 pages here, so apologies if I am asking something that has been asked already! Lot of sitcom actors, when it's as long running and popular as Big Bang Theory, seem to get typecast. Does this concern you? is the answer to take parts that are very different to Sheldon? Another fan here, obviously! Smile

rockinmum · 18/02/2015 22:20

Did you continue researching your family tree after Who Do You Think You Are? and more importantly who's side are you on for the new Batman vs Superman film?

MeowImaCatfish · 18/02/2015 22:50

Sheldon, buddy (elf cartoon thingy) and oh all seem to have the same personality and general 'Sheldon-ness'. Does that reflect at all on your usual personality etc? Me, Dm and DP love TBBT. Our favourite episode is the one in the ball pit. :)

Butterflywings168 · 18/02/2015 22:55

Hi Jim Smile and everyone. A couple of posters asked about (and it always comes up) a diagnosis of autism or Asperger's for Sheldon. I'm sure I've read elsewhere that the BBT writers stated Sheldon is not intended to have this diagnosis. I like this; I think people should be allowed to be quirky without this rush to slap a label on them that there seems to be these days.
I introduced a flatmate to BBT and she is converted - she observed 'it's about difference', which is very true. All the characters have their quirks. I love that. I can't think of one of the characters that doesn't have an issue - Raj's social anxiety, Leonard lacks self-esteem due to his toxic mother, Amy is also pretty insecure, Penny's (albeit mild) alcohol problem, Jim suffers from depression, etc...and far from rushing in to medicalise and diagnose, it's all no big deal, they're just people, in all their richness and humanity.
I especially enjoyed the Raj and Lucy storyline, as someone who used to be very socially anxious (still am a bit, am like OMG I AM TALKING TO JIM PARSONS HE IS FAMOUS OMG Blush right now).
Sorry, that was a ramble Blush
So what do you think? Was it the right decision not to label Sheldon?

Honeydragon · 18/02/2015 23:49

(Btw, for sake of full disclosure, my question is because I need help with my own choices. I struggle to choose between the guys every time we play this game. The girls are easy shag Penny, avoid Bernadette and marry Amy).

imjustahead · 19/02/2015 10:14

Jim,

my daughter and i adore you.

On mumsnet we reminisce alot about our childhoods.

.what British comedy did you get to watch when you were growing up.

thankyou x

SomewhereIBelong · 19/02/2015 10:20

Bazinga - OMG how funny was the ballpit scene - was it fun to do? or is it one of those things that looks fun to do as an adult but really isn't?

ragged · 19/02/2015 11:06

question from my 13 yr old daughter:
Most of the audience of the BBT view Sheldon as a slightly autistic, very socially awkward and very self-important nerd. As the actor who plays Sheldon, how do you personally view him?
