Honest question. Is this site a religious site?

It seems to me there's a large amount of Christian posts. I've also noticed a fair amount of disapproval for other religions.

I am an atheist. I don't really want to be part of a christian site posing as a parenting site.

So is this actually a Christian place?

Hmph. I don't think you're taking this seriously.

onebatmother · 28/01/2009 21:50

dice. It's dice, if it's only one.

"atheism is just as indefensible a position as belief in God, because there is no proof either way."

Well, no. Because the rational approach (ie the default position) is to say that God does not exist, because the idea that God does exist requires a leap of faith.

Someone show her that believing in something is less rational than not, in the absence of proof?

I've got to go out and get drunk harvest souls for the Atheist Project. Objective: Absolute Anomie

Fuck. I just realized that I'm totally wrong about dice, which may also mean that God exists.

fuck
fuck
fuck

UnquietDad · 28/01/2009 21:52

When someone says "We had this conversation before and I explained to you" that's when I tend to roll my eyes. Having put an unconvincing argument is not the same thing as having "explained" something. I'm not suddenly going to throw my hands up and say "Gosh! What a fool I am! You;re so right!"

pointydog · 28/01/2009 21:53

what os you mean, it's dice if there's only one?

UnquietDad · 28/01/2009 21:53

and onebat: sorry but it's one die, two dice. As if I'd have got that wrong [rolleyes]

pointydog · 28/01/2009 21:54

aha! Yes. Now you have proven yourself to be totally wrong in every belief you held dear.

This is like some kind of surreal Berkeley and Hume well-mannered Oxbridge spat. Except it is not being held in any gleaming spires, but at the checkout counter in Waitrose fighting over whether to have Mr Kipling's Fondant Fancies or a Duchy of Cornwall Cracker.

Both of which are clearly the realm of the Skelmersdale levitators.

pointydog · 28/01/2009 21:58

Are you implying that God is a fondant fancy?

UnquietDad · 28/01/2009 21:58

The point of my die scenario is this.

You can have a die with six sides, six different numbers on and therefore six answers to the question, and a one in six chance of getting any one.

Or: you can have a die with a 1 on five of the sides and a 6 on the remaining one. There are only two outcomes - 1 and 6, or "yes" and "no", if you like - but it is indefensible and wrong to claim that you're as likely to get one as the other.

pointydog · 28/01/2009 21:58

could you roll it and see if it lands cream side up in a dark room?

I am having a terrible time understanding the die theories.

And cote is always so patient

ruty · 28/01/2009 21:59

oh my. We haven't started to delve into the theological paradox that is a fondant fancy. Jesus would probably say they are the chosen snack of the tax collectors....

onebatmother · 28/01/2009 21:59

Oh poor poor wilf. YOu are doing exceptionally well if you're not actually weeping.

I'M GOING OUT NOW! kinell, I'm hip.

UnquietDad · 28/01/2009 22:00

I wish I'd never started this biscuit thing.

Blessed are the cheese crackers.

pointydog · 28/01/2009 22:00

IorekByrnison · 28/01/2009 22:00

ruty · 28/01/2009 22:01
