Honest question. Is this site a religious site?

It seems to me there's a large amount of Christian posts. I've also noticed a fair amount of disapproval for other religions.

I am an atheist. I don't really want to be part of a christian site posing as a parenting site.

So is this actually a Christian place?

I'm a pagan. Apart from the odd ruck over me believing in make believe (or summat like that), no-one bats an eye, and many people support me.

Lulumama · 26/01/2009 18:10

well, everyone apart from you and me , riven

tootiredtothink · 26/01/2009 18:10

I have never seen disapproval of other religions here.

Where did you see this?

MissusLindt · 26/01/2009 18:10

I have a God question, from my nephew last month

What was Jesus's Granny called?

(Mary's Mum)

Nettee · 26/01/2009 18:11

only as religious as the individual posters posting here. There are Muslims and Jews and Liberal agnostics and atheists and Christians of most descriptions. There is lots of open debate and discussion in the religion topic and I read/post there a fair amount and haven't noticed much disapproval for other religions at all. Most of the subjects are not related to religion at all.

There is no overall guidence about what view anyone should be taking so you can't say this is a Christian place anymore than you can say it is a baby led weaning place

MissusLindt · 26/01/2009 18:11

and is an agnostic the same thing as an atheist?

twinsetandpearls · 26/01/2009 18:11

Mary's mum was called anne.

VampiresWalkin · 26/01/2009 18:12

I am always a bit @ how surprised I am when people mention going to church. I don't know any church goists in rl.

twinsetandpearls · 26/01/2009 18:12

Agnostic not sure, athiest no.

BCNS · 26/01/2009 18:12

@ OP as well.

part of the reason that I love MN is the fact that just about every type of person posts on here..I would never have thought anymore about it .. other than what a nice bunch

Sunshinesmith · 26/01/2009 18:12

yeah, thre are lots of extremist ones arround I wear a chastity belt!

SoMuchToBits · 26/01/2009 18:12

No, I don't think so Mme Lindt. An atheist definitely believes there is no god, while an agnostic doesn't have any firm religious beliefs one way or the other (I think that's right!)

tootiredtothink · 26/01/2009 18:12

Twinset, I bow to your knowledge .

Must engineer a conversation about that tomorrow so I look intellectual .

MissusLindt · 26/01/2009 18:13

Well done Twinset. My Dad asked his minister, a priest and then a Bishop before he got his answer. I told him he should have posted on MN

FAQtothefuture · 26/01/2009 18:13

you wait until Easter, all of us Christians will be out in force arguing with the Pagans about the origins of Easter........while everyone else will be discussing how many Easter Eggs their DC will get

(same with Christmas too hehe)

twinsetandpearls · 26/01/2009 18:13

St Anne

VampiresWalkin · 26/01/2009 18:13

I remember a thread going for a while that was all faiths merged and I was asking loads of questions to jews Twas good learnin

Blu · 26/01/2009 18:14

I would say there is quite a high proportion of christians on MN compared to the people in my RL, both social, family and work.

combustiblelemon · 26/01/2009 18:14

I do like lighting camdles, but they're usually Jo Malone or Diptyque.

twinsetandpearls · 26/01/2009 18:16

Really blu, I must mix in very Christian/religious circles.

LadyArden · 26/01/2009 18:16

I've never noticed this to be a Christian site- what's made you think it is?

I'm interested as there certainly is a bias in other respects, eg homebirth, private schools, more so than you would find in RL.

Nettee · 26/01/2009 18:17

Blu - maybe people are more open about their faith on Mumsnet than in real life? A bit of anonimity brings out all sorts of other things after all

TheThoughtPolice · 26/01/2009 18:17

same here Blu. I mix in heathen circles

follderol · 26/01/2009 18:19

Oh I've seen a lot of biases in my scoping around the boards. A lot of them. The Christian bit was just one of them, I think people are more self-aware of the others though.
