Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Day 61 with us now and still no sign of pups (why aren't they called piglets btw???)

She's doing well, bigger every day! Feeling the babies moving around as well which is bizarre! 😂

The exact same thing happened to me a few years ago OP. Pet shop swore blind they were all girls in the enclosure when we called back to let them know, I wonder how many others had ended up in the same situation from a rogue male in there somewhere! Anyway, she had 3 babies. Ended up keeping 2 and a family member took the 3rd 😁

Oh my gosh I need to place mark for this! We have house bunnies and always stare longingly at the piggies in the pet shop! Yours are so cute

And I'm delighted that people are! I was a bit freaked out when we realised but strangely this thread has cheered me up, made me see the good side of the situation and calmed my nerves about the whole thing a bit 🥰

I think it probably happens quite a bit, the pet shop didn't seem hugely surprised 🙄

I've told myself I'm not keeping any of the new babies... but I had my other girl in for a check up this week and my vet is convinced that the moment I lay eyes on them, I'll be keeping all of them. She said she might as well just put them on my file now because she knows what I'm like 🙈😂

This happened to us years ago. Our New Guinea pig had three babies. She was fine and they were.. we let one and the pet shop took the other two back to sell.

You certainly had some good advice (before complete strangers started bookmarking and going 'ooooh, babies' :-D :-D )

She looks a bit like a furry pear! Can’t wait to see the baby pics.

The babies are just the cutest, why not add a few more to the herd?

I love it when Mama calls them and they all stick their heads underneath to "hide" 💕

I know! Slap a little sticker on her butt and she could be some round, hairy, exotic fruit 😂
