Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Babies are incredibly skinny at birth and then turn into eating machines to plump out.

Interesting! I've been trying to handle her as little as possible because she's still a bit skittish around us having only been here a couple of months, but I might give it a go tomorrow and see what I can feel!

Both those sites (and PPs!) do say to not disturb her too much prior anyway.

Hurry up, baby piggies! I need cheering up

Franklin2000 · 17/02/2024 08:55

I don’t have piggies so no idea how I’ve ended up on this thread but oh my goodness I’ve read it all and I’m so invested now! All the pictures of baby pigs and chonky pigs 😍. The thread has made me all warm and cosy so I’m settling in for updates. Full support over here op!!

I was looking for this photo on my phone yesterday but couldn't find it, and today it popped up on my fb memories. This is my fave photo of Coco 💛

This thread has been on my watchlist for days and I’ve been eagerly anticipating the new arrivals too 😍😍

So many lovely piggies on here ❤️

annonymousse · 17/02/2024 12:29

I'm checking daily for baby pictures.

We had gp's as kids. They were called Shandy and Milly-Molly-Mandy. We supplied the whole street with all their babies. Back in the 70's we just let them get on with it and ended up with a herd of gps's.

This thread has me toying with the idea of getting some piggies again. They were such lovable little creatures. Not sure DH would be persuaded 🤔

Please come soon Babies! I've had a bereavement and would appreciate something to make me smile. 🐹(closest to a GP)

Placemarking as getting guinea pigs at school soon! Any tips massively appreciated 🐹

Skiphopbump · 17/02/2024 13:11

@Dontsparethehorses my
childrens primary school had GPs and it ended in disaster and they decided against ever having class pets again.

JDJT · 17/02/2024 13:43

I'm surprised any school has enough space for a guinea pig enclosure! They take up a rather large amount of room. I was a C&C cage fan - I'm pleased to see that 20 years later they are so popular and most people now keep their piggies in them!

Make sure you keep the males and females well separated unless you intend to use them as a biology lesson!

VerityUnreasonble · 17/02/2024 13:48

Ahh surely they must be here soon!

InAPickle12345 · 17/02/2024 13:51

No piggies overnight 😫

Had to disturb Mum to Be to clear out the cage so snapped a couple of terrible photos - she is huge! I don't think the photos actually portray how enormous she is. Babies moving are now visible when looking at her.

Had a very quick feel for the pelvis and it really does seem like it's at least 2 fingers apart. Now, I'm no expert and my fingers are small so I really don't know

Whoever said pregnant piggies look like pears is spot on 😂

CoffeeWithCheese · 17/02/2024 14:17

Placemarking blatantly! I'll admit - I never quite saw the point of guinea pigs until I got suckered into them as pets by the kids... now have four who live in my WFH office and they're flipping cuties.

ZebraPensAreLife · 17/02/2024 14:23

She surely can’t get much bigger!

Do you have any idea how many babies might be in there?

Anjea · 17/02/2024 14:27

I reckon they're coming out today

Soubriquet · 17/02/2024 14:35

Jesus she’s huge!!

Riapia · 17/02/2024 14:35

Beautiful momma ❤️❤️

Can I ask why it was such a disaster?
