Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Also placemarking for the baby pics, but in the meantime I'll show you one of my 2 male pigs (brothers) that I adopted a few years ago who are both gone now but this thread is making me miss them!

We have three girls. This is the alpha! I would heartily recommend guinea pigs as pets.

Lucky you! We had guinea pigs for years and lots of litters, some accidental! Our vet got the sexes wrong once and we ended up with a bit of incest, but the baby piggies were an absolute delight and no health problems! Apparently it happens all the time in the wild. Warning ,having baby piggies around can be addictive.

I love the photos of very pregnant pigs!! When I was on my last antenatal thread with DS3 and everyone was getting into the last month and totally fed up/over it I found some pregnant guinea pig photos on the internet and posted them to make everyone feel better. It really works

Oh was that the one that escaped at Hatton Country World? I used to absolutely love it there. Brilliant little place.

Here you go :) Not the best pic, and only one piggie it it then. We'd do things differently if we ever made another - eg the cutouts on the side wouldn't be high enough for active bouncy pigs, so all ours have been more sedate, older rescues. The bottom layer used to be fleece, now it's all aubiose and hay. We often just fill the whole of the top run with hay, which they like 😁

And yes @InAPickle12345 we have 3 piggies - the pics I posted earlier are all abysinnians. Sadly the smaller ginger/white one passed away towards the end of last year and the large ginger/white one a month ago. Both were simply old and they are much missed :( But those were cute pics! Now we have two more piggies, but I don't have great photos of the new arrivals yet. I've added one of them here in their 'floor den' but you can't really see them that well. The black and white one at the back is blurry because she was zooming all over the place when we were trying to take pictures!

I've never had a guinea pig, or even known any, but enjoying this thread and learning about them. What sweet little characters in all your photos.

My photos are so old they aren't even digital!
This was Misty (she was a really beautiful half Peruvian, half Abyssinian). I think the dad of the litter was my Solid Silver Agouti. I had her in a temporary cage in my room so I could keep a close eye. I heard her grunting at night which woke me, and I was lucky enough to witness the whole thing. I think i recall she had 2 boys and 2 girls. I kept the grey girl and called her Ruby💗

How much work would more piggies create? You are having to change the bedding / clean the cage already.

Bedding change once a week here, ours are on fleece. Honestly they are very little work but they need space. Most pet shop cages are too small
