Oh bollocks. I've just signed up to a series of kids activity sessions. I'm 37 and I don't have kids

I'm a member of a martial arts club that do adult and children's classes.

They sent an email yesterday with different summer offers.

One of their offers was six activity sessions (martial arts based sessions and more general social sessions) over July and August. The activities are: A craft afternoon, A movie evening, A sparring workshop, A small-group training session, and A trip to a local adventure playground.

I thought it looked great and so I signed up.

Then I forwarded onto a friend who pointed out that it's for children to keep them entertained over the six weeks holidays. It's not intended for 37 year-old, professional, child-free women.

In my defense (geddit) - I've done loads of non-martial arts stuff with the women's class including craft evenings, book groups, trips out etc. Plus, I kind of forget that the club does children's classes because I'm never there when the kids are going in or out. So, I'm telling myself it was an easy mistake to make.

I need to ring the club and tell them I want to cancel but I feel like such a bloody twat.

I can't lie and tell them I booked it for a child who's changed their mind. They know I don't have a child. Bollocks.

This is hilarious. But also as a childfree woman I think loads of stuff that exists for kids looks mint. My niece goes to brownish and I want to go to a club and learn stuff too!

You need Rebel Badge club in your life. Books are available on Amazon and club page on FB.

This is quite possibly the cutest post I’ve ever read! You sound adorable OP XX

When my DD was in primary, her class teacher gave reward points. There was a letter sent home which had to be signed and returned and teacher promised a reward point to any child who brought it back the next day. I said that surely I deserved the reward point as it was me who'd had to read/sign & get it sent in the next day. Teacher agreed and my name was duly put in the hat for the reward point prize draw at the end of the week. I won. DD got to choose my prize, I got a gold plastic trophy, loved it!

On a trip to London in my early 20s I met up with some friends at a cafe. I saw there was something called a babyccino on the menu, so ordered that thinking it was bargain at 50p. It came with a stirrer with a teddy bear on the top 🤣

A babyccino is just foamed milk for kids. Why would you want that?

Most of these are funny and easy to misunderstand. But a babyccino is for kids and everyone knows that.

Velodromer · 17/07/2023 10:27

Well quite. Clearly I didn’t.

TorviShieldMaiden · 17/07/2023 10:33

If you don’t have kids though I don’t know that you’d know about babyccinos though? Especially a few years ago.

Quite so.
If you don't have kids you may not twig there's things specifically meant for them. Babies don't have hot drinks, so it's not totally obvious from the name that this is something for toddlers and preschoolers rather than maybe a small size adult beverage.
Likewise not being clued up about exactly when the school holidays are - now we're out the other side as our DC is grown up we don't always realise.

I survived the shame of Friday's class - no-one said anything.

I went to small group training this morning and at the end of the session the trainer gave me a "Today I Did My Best" certificate that they usually give out to a couple of kids each time in the children's classes. He said he thought I might appreciate it.

So, yeah, everyone knows.

Same for a baby Guinness. A baby might go in the pub and order one by accident

Your post made me giggle.
I once signed up for digital photography classes even though I didn't own a camera. I wanted to see if I would enjoy them and get a bit of advice before buying one. Everyone else had "flashy" cameras & I arrived with my trusty samsung mobile phone lol.

Backstreets · 17/07/2023 12:44

These stories are hilarious!

Reminded me of the year we (parents, me (14) and my sister (12)) went on holiday, and my dad went out to the pub one evening and met a bloke who was talking about how he had a "wee pony". Ended with the man saying to my dad "Sure bring your daughters round tomorrow and they can have a wee ride on the pony".

We got there the next day and the pony was tiny. Like, proper small pony. Clearly the man had assumed that my sister and I were about 6 years old. No one wanted to say anything, so I was placed onto the pony (thankfully I was quite skinny and light) and the man dutifully walked it around the field while I tried to stop my feet trailing on the ground, and my sister laughed her legs off!

LivMumsnet · 31/08/2023 10:40

Aaaw, @HighKicking , we're so happy for you that you got your special certificate. Star Here's a further accolade for you to boast about in the ball pool next time you're at adult soft play...

After lots of nominations from your fellow toddlers MNers, we're now moving your thread over to Classics so that MNers can enjoy tales of age inappropriate fancy dress contests and teeny tiny pony rides forever more.

Celebratory babyccinos all round!

Oh wow, thank you @LivMumsnet

What a lovely and unexpected turn of events.

I've been smiling reading back through these posts today.

I was a bit of a laughing stock for a while. But it wore off. Once all the members had heard about my mistake, and all the instructors had made some kind of joke or remark, where else is there to go?
