Oh bollocks. I've just signed up to a series of kids activity sessions. I'm 37 and I don't have kids

I'm a member of a martial arts club that do adult and children's classes.

They sent an email yesterday with different summer offers.

One of their offers was six activity sessions (martial arts based sessions and more general social sessions) over July and August. The activities are: A craft afternoon, A movie evening, A sparring workshop, A small-group training session, and A trip to a local adventure playground.

I thought it looked great and so I signed up.

Then I forwarded onto a friend who pointed out that it's for children to keep them entertained over the six weeks holidays. It's not intended for 37 year-old, professional, child-free women.

In my defense (geddit) - I've done loads of non-martial arts stuff with the women's class including craft evenings, book groups, trips out etc. Plus, I kind of forget that the club does children's classes because I'm never there when the kids are going in or out. So, I'm telling myself it was an easy mistake to make.

I need to ring the club and tell them I want to cancel but I feel like such a bloody twat.

I can't lie and tell them I booked it for a child who's changed their mind. They know I don't have a child. Bollocks.

Yes please @RoseBucket You can say I took your credit card without you knowing, and now I'm grounded.

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee Nice idea. But not workable, sadly. It was on the "Events" page and there was only one event there.

😂@RoseBucket

Were there other course options available, could you say you clicked on the wrong one and only realise now you've signed up to the kids class?

Or yeah, get your mum to call and cancel for you lol!

Ilikejamtarts · 13/07/2023 12:39

😂😂

PuttingDownRoots · 13/07/2023 12:39

Was there no age group listed?

Definitely invent a niece or nephew then claim you got your dates wrong

I signed up for a children's craft session once, due to the nature of it I didn't assume it was just for children...I didn't find out until I got there and they got me my own table to do it on. I still cringe about it now 😂

😂😂😂

Nope. Only one "Event" on the page. Even in that event, the different offers are all for kids. So no wrong clicking from me.

Go, but channel the Catherine Tate Bunty the majorette character.

StillWantingADog · 13/07/2023 12:42

This has made my day!
sorry OP I’m sure they’ll see the funny side

No. I guess they didn't feel the need to expressly explain that it was for children because its so bleeding obvious.

This thread has made me laugh out loud, thank you ladies ❤️😂
Brightened up my shitty day at work!

IveHadItUpToHere · 13/07/2023 12:44

Thanks for the laugh OP.
Maybe they'll suggest keeping your money and running an adults' one too 😃

Carryonkeepinggoing · 13/07/2023 12:47

It’s actually good feedback for them OP - they need to add the accepted age range somewhere on it or they’ll be getting sign ups from adults or children too young too. You really won’t be the only one who didn’t find it obvious, even if it feels like an unimaginably silly mistake now.

RaquelGarcia · 13/07/2023 12:47

I signed up for a karaoke night on holiday once, when I arrived, yes it was a children's karaoke contest. Nonetheless when they called my name I got up and sang, though sadly I did not win.

RoseBucket · 13/07/2023 12:49

@HighKicking absolutely! You’ll be grounded for a month, I’ll spin a right tale, they would feel so sorry for you I’m sure an immediate refund would be given 👍

I think you should brazen it out and go. Release your inner child 😂

Newgirls · 13/07/2023 12:58

Omg sounds amazing - can we come too? Tired stressed adults need this more than kids

Floraltears · 13/07/2023 12:58

😂😂 this made me laugh! But don’t worry, I used to run a kids club and had adults sign up thinking it was for adults, so you won’t be the first.

but don’t say it was for a child that changed their mind as you might not get a refund.

you’ll cheer up their day once you’ve confessed 😁

Coronationstation · 13/07/2023 12:59

Brilliant!! Might they appreciate some adult help at these sessions??

PatrickGammon · 13/07/2023 13:00

This sounds exactly like the sort if thing I would do OP 😁

Sod it, dont cancel. Just turn up as if you hadn't realised it's for kids. They may let you help out as a volunteer instead and that way you still get to participate in the fun.

P.s. if I saw adventure playground I'd be all over it but then I'm a very childlike 37 year old 🙈

BearLoves · 13/07/2023 13:01

I organised a group of us to go to a village fete (in the deepest darkest depths of Cornwall) where they’d advertised a fancy dress competition with judging at the end of the fete. Me and 8 others turned up (via hired minibus) in full scale fancy dress to realise it was just for the kids. We had to stay till the end because we’d spent so much on it but the locals totally ignored our fancy dress efforts come judging. It was 16 years ago and I can still see their faces as we walked into the village pub and then my mates’ faces too.

TheOrigRights · 13/07/2023 13:02

I booked a kiddy manicure & polish instead of a proper adult one once. I was drawn to the price and how long it took. I arrived and she was like "errrr where's the kid?".

Luckily she did have time to fit me in for a proper adult one.

Unicorntearsofgin · 13/07/2023 13:04

This has really cheered up OP. I think the best thing is to embrace your inner child by attending and keep us all posted.

Sallyh87 · 13/07/2023 13:04

I once entered a childrens fun run, my husband was doing a half marathon and there was an additional 1 mile fun run, I thought why not and signed up. I got as far as going to the sign in desk on the day got my number etc. Got a very strange look from the desk lady (which I thought was because I was a bit fat and she didn’t think I could run a mile 😂).

Went to the start line and realised it was just a large group of 5 - 10 year olds. I did not run, mostly because I was afraid I’d come last 😄.
