Beautiful signs of aging

Crows feet!

I love them. I think they make any face instantly more beautiful.

What are your favourite most beautiful signs of aging?

I'm a very feminist 🦕 yet I don't see the problem with the comment about young children being tiring and that does show on your face.
As women do the bulk of childcare still of course it's right to assume that in that context women are going to show that stress and once that stress is alleviated they will look different. My DH is the SAHP at the moment and he definitely looks more knackered when the kids have been ill or playing up.

Also feminism isn't about Women being like Men if women want to talk about this and men don't then women should be able to talk about it.

Liking clothing and looking nice doesn't make anyone less of a feminist, clothing is a form of expression.

Thinking women shouldn't age and that beauty is only for the young now that is something to get annoyed about!

Anyway I've thought of another my nails have started to develop ridges they remind me of my DGrandmother and painting her nails for her, it's a lovely memory. I hope my grandchildren we are a long way off of any of the DC having kids paint my nails one day and remember me in a similar way.

KoreyBay18 · 18/10/2021 13:32

OK this one isn't aging related but on the topic of things society views as ugly but which is actually objectively beautiful...

Stretch marks?! I'm so done with hating mine. I'm carrying extra weight which I'm working hard to get rid of, and don't like the look of my flab, but the stretch marks themselves are actually beautiful and I won't be told otherwise.

Nowadays there is very much an attitude that beauty is solely about smooth, line-free skin (look at even young women using fillers) so I've loved reading all the positivity on this thread. I think the crinkles around my eyes when I smile & laugh are lovely; give me a softer look.

whatisthisinhere · 18/10/2021 13:41

Crows feet are beautiful, as are the lines that form on cheeks coming down from the eyes when people smile. Some people get those crinkle lines near their nose which look so cute.

whatisthisinhere · 18/10/2021 13:47

When I was younger, I had so many hang ups about my face and body, hated my hair, hated my smile. I used to practice smiling in a mirror, just so I wouldn't look "ugly" in photos. I don't know if I think I look better as i age, or I'm just more appreciative of a life free of abuse and making better choices - hence having a stress free life as a result

whatisthisinhere · 18/10/2021 13:50

I don't even think it's as a result of being free of the worries of raising children, since I have three sons with autism, two who will require life long care. It's got a lot to do with being single.

EssexLioness · 18/10/2021 13:52

What a lovely idea for a post! I quite like my crows feet, and love my husband’s as I think it makes him look friendlier/ happier when he smiles. I am early 40s and got a light scattering of greys, but I have one small streak of white right at the front on one side which I think looks quite cute. Btw my hairdresser calls grey hairs ‘sparkles’ which I think is quite sweet

Lookingoutside · 18/10/2021 20:02

My smile is much bigger and there’s light in my eyes. I noticed on some photos from this weekend.

Darklane · 18/10/2021 20:27

My snow white, platinum, shoulder length hair that has lost all its frizziest ( when it was red) to become smooth & wavy. Hardly have to bother with troublesome upkeep.
No body hair, well hardly any, never have to shave legs or armpits.
My eyes have always been turquoise, funny shade that was never noticeable, but now they really show up as my skin & hair has lightened.
Young men! They’ll stop & chat now, like they would to their mum, friendly, in shops & places as they don’t have to worry that I’ll think they’re on the make. People are just so much nicer to you.

woodhill · 18/10/2021 20:34

Yes, I've got used to my grey hair and feel more confident than when younger

Also doing some You Tube fitness regularly has really helped

Great thread OP

brittleheadgirl · 18/10/2021 20:57

@woodhill oooo any recommendations? I'd love to get a bit fitter as I hit my 50s but wouldn't know where to start when looking on YouTube etc!

7catsisnotenough · 18/10/2021 21:07

@brittleheadgirl please would you share which colour depositing products you use? There seem to be such mixed reviews everywhere!

brittleheadgirl · 18/10/2021 21:26

It's this one from Superdrug, £4.99 but usually on some sort of two for £8 offer so I always stock up!
A bottle lasts me a while as I don't use it every wash and often just use a little with my normal conditioner.

I'd be interested if there are any other decent ones? Although I'm rigid about cruelty free, so sadly this limits my choices!

@Ionlydomassiveones

"Some women really lighten up once the worry and anxiety of raising children is over. Nothing more lovely than a relaxed face and an easy laugh"

Absolutely 💯%

Plus by some miracle my oily pimply skin in my Teens has blossomed to a lovely supple smooth skin in my 40's...

Lovely Thread OP

I love my freckly, slightly weathered face. I’ve got Celtic skin so usually have a bit of colour or rosy cheeks. I only really need to wear a base (Bare Minerals), from January to April.

I like Pahla B but she may not be your cup of tea. Especially for the over 50s😀

Echobelly · 18/10/2021 22:06

I like my crow's feet too!

I'm generally finding it quite interesting seeing signs of getting older, not sad about it at all (mid 40s)

7catsisnotenough · 18/10/2021 23:14

@brittleheadgirl thanks for the recommendation! The ones I've seen have been up around the £15 mark, John Frieda and the like, and they all seem to have very mixed reviews. I don't have have an enormous number of greys but they seem to like to grow in little patches which isn't exactly how I had anticipated going grey gracefully 🤣 I'm off to Superdrug tomorrow 👍🏼👍🏼

7catsisnotenough · 18/10/2021 23:18

@brittleheadgirl - I just looked and it's currently on offer for £3.32, I'm going to stock up!!!

SocksAndTheCity · 19/10/2021 00:07

I like my crows feet and also my cheekbones, which I can now see as my face is more angular. My hair has thinned a little too, which is a relief as it was so thick and coarse when I was younger I couldn't do anything with it and it stuck out like a bush (I can blow dry it quite well by myself now!)

I also like my round belly, because I can crook my arm around it when I'm in bed and it's very comforting. I never had much of a shape before but I've got more of a waist and hips now as I've gained a little weight (I'm actually a pound heavier now than I was when I first signed up for WeightWatchers some twenty years ago - I'm 48 now - and I honestly don't know how as I remember being appalled by how huge I felt at the time) and my body feels strong, healthy and feminine.

Most of all I can wear whatever I like and not give a shit because everything feels fabulous (it may not look it, but I no longer care what anyone else thinks) Smile

PickAChew · 19/10/2021 00:11

Big chunky silver streaks in my dark hair.

QuestionNumberOne · 19/10/2021 00:16

flowers this is essentially a feminist thread because it’s elegantly and easily pushing back against the prevalent societal concept that female ageing = unacceptable.

surely only a numbnut would miss that

Darklane · 19/10/2021 00:21

I really can’t understand these celebrities who go in for umpty face lifts, fillers, Botox etc. Some of them end up looking completely unrecognisable from their younger selves. You wonder what their children, if they have them, think.

AnnieSnap · 19/10/2021 01:03

I love my white hair. I had it cropped very short to grow in the grey in my late 50s (really couldn’t be bothered doing it slowly to keep it longer). I’m 62 now and it’s properly white, not grey (a bit of salt and pepper at the very back). I don’t love the texture (because that changes with age too), but I accept it. I’m not a fan of the wrinkles around my eyes. I had Botox a couple of times and liked it, but I’m retired, on a lower income and can’t justify it on an ongoing basis, so it’s good to hear that some people find them attractive 🙂
