What is your post-apocalyptic occupation?

AIBU to ask you what your post-apocalyptic occupation would be?

With all the recent news about the shortage of skilled workers - HGV drivers, farm labourers, and today there are news about an emergency visa scheme considered for abattoir workers, I started wondering what would I do if the modern society suddenly fell back into - well, not Dark Ages exactly - but, say, mid-late 19th century ways of living.

And realised that I actually have very little in terms of real-life tradeable skills. In a world without computers, my other skills are worth zero to the community, and I would probably immediately fall to the bottom of the newly established social order.

What about you?

Do we get to bring children with us? DD is too little atm to be useful but I reckon if you wait a few years she will be a very good Xena type warrior?

I hope so. Mine is a beast. She'd love a good zombie apocalypse.

I think a lot of these DHs with skills (if they don't make it onto the breeding program) should be put to work in the school, teaching the youngsters. Mine has taught martial arts, it sounds like we have plumbers, builders, engineers. Better they teach while we hunt and gather so we can quickly get to the next stage of development.

I can grow veg. But I'm kept alive with pharmaceuticals so probably wouldn't be growing veg for long?

I can sew, knit, crochet, cook, and bake with varying levels of skill.

Im pretty good at risk management and disaster planning and mitigation. Although the worst would have happened but I could continuity plan our defence 😂
I could also provide counselling support on the side.

On the other hand I was taught martial arts as a kid/boxed as an adult so I might be able to pass on my knowledge to future generations to fight the zombies and I'm very good at fire making.

DH is an engineer so would be V useful at making tools, machinery out of nothing etc.

I always figured I'd wait out the initial apocalypse then lead a bunch of rabble misfits to survival, setting up some kind of homestead on one of the ww2 airfields round here with all those lovely bunkers.

Failing that, somewhere in the Zombie horde maybe?

What I do now- nurse but obviously it would be back to basics.

And I would fight. I'm always having warrior dreams.
