What's the most PFB embarrassing moment you've had?

I remember mine and physically cringe. DS1 is very bright, learned to walk and talk early and had a good vocabulary. So bright and developmentally at the top end (younger DS slower on all counts but both totally normal) but not exceptional.

Being shown round a lovely nursery and I said on more than one occasion how he was "really very smart" and that the doctor had said how clever he was (local GP had said she's very good speech wise and health visitor had said similar.

I cringe so hard every time I think about it. He goes to that nursery and whenever I see the head who showed us around I just think about how much of a wanker I must have seemed 😭😫😆

@drspouse

Was that because you thought the baby's ears were at the sides??
No, just so the bump was covered from all angles 😂
mermaidtales · 07/09/2021 00:12

I am ill in bed with covid and this thread is cheering me up no end! Laughing out loud, keep them coming Grin

Cbd333 · 07/09/2021 09:37

I took my 3 week old to A&E because she hadn't done a poo for five days.

Ahhhhhbisto · 07/09/2021 10:51

I rushed to the gp surgery because I thought my pfb intestines were poking out through her belly button.....it was sucked on breadstick that had fallen through the top of her vest 😂

drspouse · 07/09/2021 13:13

Did you not look under the vest??!

Ahhhhhbisto · 07/09/2021 13:27

@drspouse

Did you not look under the vest??!
Yes, it was discovered during a nappy change but i didn't want to touch it! Genuinely thought it was her insides poking outBlush

@choli

Once I was holding her on my shoulder in a shop and the lady behind me started crying, she said she'd never seen such a beautiful baby. I'd say that happened alright Wink
I totally believe it. I had a female colleague of an age approaching retirement clutch her heart and exclaim that PFB DS resembled the baby Jesus Confused and her friend agree. Even I thought that was going a bit far.

I was convinced my mum had kidnapped 6mo DS.

We were out in town shopping, and I wanted to go into Paperchase to see if SIL was working that day. It was tight to manoeuvre the pram, so my mum took it and went off. Turns out SIL wasn't working that day, so I wasn't in there for long, and when I came out, my mum wasn't there. I spent all of 20 seconds really panicking, before she strolled out of the shop next door. The relief!

My mum has no history whatsoever of kidnapping, I have no idea why I was so scared.

Tbf, we did the cooled boiled water and cotton wool on instruction from NICU nurses. It was mandatory and they had bottles and bottles of sterile water.

With PFB, I took her for walks for every nap to get her fresh air. I had read somewhere that they needed uninterrupted sleep cycles of 1 hour so I set a stopwatch and went marching out, twice a day every day, rain and shine, an hour at a time.

She also did French at nursery as a 2yo. There was a "French class bear" that came home and we had to do a diary. I wrote it up entirely in French and got my dad who is a professional translator to help. The teacher stopped sending the bear home after that Hmm

SecretUnassumingFoghorn · 09/09/2021 18:15

Pretty standard reaction tbh??? I took my 3 week old to A&E because she hadn't done a poo for five days.

That is truly incroyable! Smile

I fed my PFB baby her first piece of apple whilst sitting in my GP waiting room. Didn’t have an appointment, just sat there ready to rush her in if necessary.

😂😂

Cbd333 · 09/09/2021 23:54

@SecretUnassumingFoghorn I guess it is, but I felt so unbelievably embarrassed when I had to say 'my baby hasn't done a poo for five days' and then repeat it loudly as the A&E booking in clerk couldn't hear me. Then while we were in the waiting area it seemed as everyone else literally had limbs hanging off.

The worst bit was, when we were eventually seen she did a massssive poo the second I lay her down on the examination bed 🙈

SecretUnassumingFoghorn · 10/09/2021 07:51

@Cbd333 you did the right thing though, you did exactly what they tell you to do if it's been that long xx

Is it?! Mine used to go a week at a time without pooing and the doctor said it was fine until it got to 10 days (I think, I remember thinking it was excessively high anyway) and made me out to be a panicked first time mum Hmm

SecretUnassumingFoghorn · 11/09/2021 08:02

@BeHappyAndSmile if they're under a month old yes. Afterwards it depends on if they're breast or bottle fed.

Oh my god I wish I'd been told that! At 3 weeks he was in hospital for something else and I mentioned it to the nurse who gave a little suppository. Worked like a charm. But she was the only person who paid attention and did something! I do think medical professionals brush over a lot of stuff if it's a first child.

HelloHummingbird · 11/09/2021 08:15

In my sleep deprived state and still on all the induction and EMCS and epidural drugs I kept calling my DD by my cats name 😂😂😂 and it's not an average name either it's a name of a condiment!

MrsCatE · 12/09/2021 00:00

@HelloHummingbird that’s hysterical! I’m thinking Sriracha? Nope. Ketchup? Mustard?

Justletmelogon · 12/09/2021 08:15

@HelloHummingbird

It's a good job you didn't have twins Lee and Perrins Grin

HelloHummingbird · 12/09/2021 10:42

@MrsCatE I know 😂 the midwives and fellow ward sufferers must have definitely decided I was mad! Obviously can't divulge Dcat's name but it would have been a bit Hmm at the midnight and 3am feed in the dark on the ward 😂😂😂
@Justletmelogon I know haha! 😂

@PyongyangKipperbang

My favourite MN PFB will always be the lady who admitted to parking up outside A&E when weaning her PFB and feeding him a brand new food. This was so if the child had a reaction she could get him right in for help.

Funny and yet very sweet and shows the lengths we go to for our little ones (I would include the baby shampoo story in that too!).

This is one of the reasons why (in Islam) there is numerous hadiths on why a mother is more precious/ important than a father. “Paradise lies at the feet of your mother”.

A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).

coldseacoldears · 24/09/2021 11:12

This thread is brilliant, I have so many PFB moments but not limited to first, I was bonkers for months with both my kids. Maybe even worse for the second one because she didn't sleep and already had a toddler so sleep deprivation was awful.
Did the feeding diary for both. They definitely start you off in hospital with this so I assumed everyone did it and it was normal. Did it for a few weeks with PFB until I realised she fed every 3 hours like clockwork. Did the diary for many months with second, I couldn't remember which breast and how long in between otherwise.

floweroverload · 24/09/2021 11:17

My worst moment was when I took no2 child to drs as both dh and I were convinced she had dwarfism which they hadn't diagnosed at birth. Lovely very patient dr measured her head and said she was within normal size for her age and come back in a few months if we were worried. She was just small with a big forehead.
Took her back another time because she had a wonky bum crack. Also totally normal.
I was bonkers and clearly very anxious mother.
