To feel "posh"

Have recently bought my DC towelling shorts from Boden for our holiday.. I feel like a bit of a posho which is weird, I know 😂

So what I want to know is, what thing did you buy for your children that made you feel "posh" or even, what have you bought your DC that your parents would have never dreamed of buying for you?

Lighthearted.

Private school.

@FuckingHateRats

I regularly take my these kids into a bookshop, buy us all a new book and then decamp in the nearest coffee shop for hot drinks and cake, and to read our new books.

My mum thinks this is the epitome of extravagance 🤣🤣

My grandaughter's favourite treat, book to till to coffee and cake with no need to even leave the shop. She now refers to it as the Central Perk of her Summer stay, she's getting far too grown up!
Lemonmelonsun · 22/07/2021 22:09

Oh the coat with the velvet collar 😍😍❤️❤️ swooning... And patent shoes!

Shodan · 22/07/2021 22:09

We bought ds2 an old style, blue velvet? Silver Cross pram from ebay. It was like taking Little Lord Fauntleroy out for his daily perambulation ( so long as you didn't see us wrestling it out of the boot of the Ford Focus) It was a thing of absolute beauty and much admired by older women who told us of their fond memories of their children's prams.

I love the idea of taking the dc for a new book and then to a coffee shop. I think I'll do that with ds2 this summer.

Lemonmelonsun · 22/07/2021 22:10

Shodan, yes!! I had one... How lovley..

ribbonsred · 22/07/2021 22:10

Took kids to supermarket for a quick, easy picnic... whatever they wanted. Five year old chose pomegranate seeds, olives and jumbo prawns.

YellowBellyCat · 22/07/2021 22:10

@Mrsmadevans

I don't think Boden is posh TBH
Boden is unaffordable for a lot of people….whether that makes it “posh” or not is subjective but I’m sure many would consider it posh.
Sleeperagent · 22/07/2021 22:11

When I first started earning I used to go downtown and shop. Sometimes instead of taking the 10 min bus ride home I used to take a black cab. It made me feel really posh, like sex and the city, but with topshop and river island

Getting my car valeted at my house.

Amd at the moment, our air conditioned house.

Sat in my air conditioned home reading this. It's amazing isn't it. All my friends want to sleep over because of the heatwave wish house was big enough! 😍

Ooh loads of stuff, scampi in a cafe, even going to a cafe just on a whim. Letting the kids have a second drink at said cafe. Monsoon daytime clothes, anything at all from Laura Ashley, Mr Frostie, A la carte kitchen.

LoveSummerNotIcecream · 22/07/2021 22:14

I’ve just been to Waitrose at the end of the day to buy the yellow sticker items. I took a le cruset canvas bag that a friend gave me I felt very posh!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 22/07/2021 22:15

I felt posh when then one year old DD ate a load of olives when we were out visiting. Just assumed she wouldn't like them as wasn't part of our normal diet!

Caritas · 22/07/2021 22:15

Love this thread! I’m married to an Etonian, so I suppose that counts as ‘posh’, but we both work in relatively lower paid NHS jobs (our joint income doesn’t exceed £50,000), but we recently bought our first house, and we like to treat 3 month old DS to clothes from Boden, Petit Bateau, and Blue Almonds etc.

Picklesbaby · 22/07/2021 22:15

Also M&S school uniform this time (20% off!)
Matching joules coat& lunchbox
My stuff growing up was from bargain bin at Asda

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/07/2021 22:16

I bought the Cath Kidston cowboy print baby change bag when DS was born. Came with a matching padded changing mat and bottle pouch. Happy, happy days...

We bought a family membership to David Lloyds last year. Whenever my 3 yr old asks "are we going to David Lloyds today mummy?" I feel incredibly posh.

Then we turn up to a carpark full of audis, BMWs, jags and Volvos in our 8 year old SEAT and I remember that in the grand scheme of things, we're really not 😂

Maggiesfarm · 22/07/2021 22:17

@Waxonwaxoff0

DS has a Burberry shirt for when we go out somewhere nice. Perhaps a bit nouveau riche rather than posh though!
Definitely not posh! Chavvy. Burberry has never recovered from the plethora of scarves, caps and even jackets in their print, worn by young lads walking around in groups with pitbulls.

This sounds amazing! Thanks for the idea.

Definitely the david Lloyd membership.

Shopping at Booths.

I remember when DD was born mentioning to DH that I'd like her to learn the harp at some point (not sure why, but I thought it sounded lovely). He looked at me like I had 2 heads and said "don't be ridiculous, she'll learn the recorder like all the other kids!"

I also remember being on holiday and eating at a beach restaurant where they had a basic meal deal type thing for the kids where the dessert was ice cream. Kids were playing in the sand so shouted over to DD to ask what flavour of ice cream she'd like and she replied "hmm, either salted caramel or pistachio please!" at which point the guy say next to us was pissing himself (choices were vanilla or choc if I remember rightly).

I do however need to ask about towelling swimming shorts - they sound like a terrible idea.... would they not get wet and heavy and potentially fall down, whether they are Boden or not?!

I have three Le Creuset bags and I feel SO POSH when I use them. In Aldi, haha.

I was invited a few years back to a seaside picnic and for some reason one woman decided to judge people by their carrier bags!!! She considered herself top of the tree with Waitrose, among the Sainsburys, Tesco, Aldi etc. of the lesser families. When I turned up she was very sniffy, my bag was somewhere unknown to her thus inferior until someone else took great delight in explaining to her what Whole Foods was. It was simply something I'd picked up in the US.

No idea.. they're packed in a very un-posh Aldi bag for life ready for our week in a caravan 😂😂 they're not to get wet, just to go over a wet swimsuit (if they even go in the sea that is 😂)

There's some unpleasant, sneery posts on here.

Years ago, my now DH was working out in New York and I went out to visit him. I remember striding through Heathrow, straight from work in my suit with a little wheely suitcase, on my way to catch the red-eye to JFK, just thinking I was IT. 😆
