To feel "posh"

leopardprintpants · 22/07/2021 19:48

Have recently bought my DC towelling shorts from Boden for our holiday.. I feel like a bit of a posho which is weird, I know 😂

So what I want to know is, what thing did you buy for your children that made you feel "posh" or even, what have you bought your DC that your parents would have never dreamed of buying for you?

Lighthearted.

My kid got a ride on one of those kiddy rides you get at shopping centres the other day. Two rides, in fact!! Super posh.

I get the P.o.P coat obsession - there is one that has been worn by three of my children and two of their cousins and still looks decent so if you have others to pass it on to is definitely worth it. I get their emails and trawl whenever there are sales and put stuff aside for when it fits.

I feel posh when I use my neat rectangular insulated bags at Waitrose. Also wearing ironed clothes Grin

Miliao · 22/07/2021 21:01

How is reading a book and eating cake posh?!! I’m not even sure it’s extravagant!

littlejalapeno · 22/07/2021 21:03

I got a posh smoothie maker and make smug smoothies and ice lollies for the PFT. There’s probably vitamins in coco pops, but at least he gets some fruit and hidden veg in him

We bought a house on a fair chunk of land this year and it has a little cottage down by the gate. I asked our plumber to check something at the "gate cottage" as we call it and felt a bit posh at that moment. Except I'm not and I live in Northern Ireland so this house cost less than our very first home counties 2 up 2 down is worth now.

Generally I rarely feel posh.

Essentialironingwater · 22/07/2021 21:07

Oh also when we buy wine "for the cellar" (except we are usually in Lidl or availing of another supermarket deal...)

Neondisco · 22/07/2021 21:10

@MySecretHistory

Anyone who uses the word posh is not. You are safe. Enjoy your shorts (look at Vilebrequin or Orlebar Brown for posh)
Obviously missed the light hearted bit....

A prep and boarding school education ... we didn't really mean to!
(and it's only been possible with bursaries, which our children have thoroughly earned by their contributions at school)
Our eldest seems fairly well grounded though (she's just finished), and hoping that the youngest will understand the real world as well as the one he's been living in.

I used to buy my DD a beautiful traditional party dress every year from JoJo Maman when she was little. That felt pretty posh...most of the time it was Asda and Primark!

Is it worth it, can you recommend one? Melting right now....[/quote]
Delonghi Pinguino. I think it's worth it but you can only really use it effectively in one room. It's on wheels so you can move it. Weve had it on all afternoon and it's just made our big living space habitable. Otherwise it would be more like 28c. Standing in front of it is glorious though.

So I think it's worth it but we've had it about 2 days. Got it next day from AO. It needs somewhere to vent like most of the standing units. It's not quiet but it's not loud. DS is currently asleep in travel cot in same room. Temp has been about 24c all day whilst it's been on. Otherwise we would be at about 30c.

It's not the most environmentally friendly but it's unlikely to be used on a regular basis.

On the basis that I was almost crying last night it was so hot, it's worth it.

DS (2.5) calls it windy robot!

Taking my kids for lunch with my sister and they chose mussels and calamari. Didn't eat a pizza, curry or Chinese till I was 18.

Of course it is when you could use the library and go home for a drink.

Anyway OP even opening the Boden catalogue makes you posh.

I have a man who cleans my oven once a year......he does a great job but it's a massive extravagance!

Thought I'd done well paying for the DC to fly business class alongside me and DH. I soon realised that the old money crew shove the DC in economy, with or without the nanny.
No regrets though, and it has instilled in my DC a love of leg room.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 22/07/2021 21:31

Buying some of my food shopping from Marks and Spencer instead of Tesco, ditto school uniforms.

Oh bugger off! If this is the saddest thread you've ever read, you clearly live a very sheltered life

I tried to but David punched me! Grin

We spend a lot on extra-curricular clubs for our kids - sports mainly. It's because my children love sports and have lists of extra ones they want to do (I drive them around to all of these clubs like a mad woman each week). I don't have the nerve to add up what we're spending on them, it's probably horrendous. I think doing that these days it's considered posh to be able to do that.

My Mum is really gutted that we send our kids to these clubs. In a recent argument she told us we shouldn't be able to afford it. Also said we shouldn't have any money left at the end of the month to be able to save...??? She was from a poorer background and resents it a bit. However, we actually live very frugally and spend very little in other areas so we can afford to do this.
