To feel "posh"

Have recently bought my DC towelling shorts from Boden for our holiday.. I feel like a bit of a posho which is weird, I know 😂

So what I want to know is, what thing did you buy for your children that made you feel "posh" or even, what have you bought your DC that your parents would have never dreamed of buying for you?

Lighthearted.

Goodness me victorialudorum and threatmatrix, You know what posh really is? Manners. And the self awareness to ease a social situation with grace and humour!
And Boden!
And lovely lovely trips to liberty and foyles and fortnums with your mum .

Ifeelsuchafool · 23/07/2021 23:42

@Caritas, I'm sure but I did do a little double take! Grin

whyMrsRobinson · 23/07/2021 23:43

Omg, and garlic bread!

@madmomma

Donkeys years ago when I was a skint, depressed teen single mum, I was on income support and was fully breastfeeding dd. I got milk vouchers for her, which I didn't need for formula, so I used to get the milk, pour it all into a hot bath and pretend I was cleopatra. I felt incredibly posh until the nasty guy living downstairs turned my water off 😁. Gotta take that posh feeling from wherever you can get it 😂. Nowadays I feel hugely posh putting the heating on, buying petrol or nice fruit without worrying, getting socks from m&s.. It's that feeling of being able to meet needs that feels posh to me. I hope it always feels posh, and I hope everyone here enjoys every little bit of poshness they can get.
Awww so pleased for you and long may your posh moments last. This thread is heartwarming.

@irresistibleoverwhelm My dad refers to salad as 'rabbit food' and once refused a cheese sarnie as he could see evidence of two kinds of cheddarGrin

He refers to me and my pals as 'Young folk' (I'm in my 40's) and was we're 'Add our heid' for spending money on gigs and candles.

He's spent a fortune on theatre tickets and meals out for us but always has steak pie followed by trifle. I adore the man.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 24/07/2021 00:02

@irresistibleoverwhelm He is. But very unposh. With his 2 types of cheddar

Superdry is the best for winter coats. Only in the sale though. Posh people only buy cheap. They save their money for ski chalets etc.
Or cake.
I like cake.
Posh cake.
Or peach melbas.
Etc.

What are those things in Harry Potter that suck all the joy and life out of people? There's a few of them lurking around on this thread and, oddly, not one of them - with their knowledge of 'what's posh and what's not- seems to share any sense of putting others at ease and neither sneering at nor 'correcting' the apparent errors of others. How unpleasant. No manners at all. Tsk.

borntobequiet · 24/07/2021 07:45

posh sex article!

Just wondering what this might be.

Dementors. And you're not wrong.

Definitely a few Valerie Jones types on this thread… what would Saint Jilly say?

Bangolads · 24/07/2021 08:07

@MySecretHistory I think you may have seriously missed the point of this post 😅 I think the Op asked about things that make them feel posh not whether they are posh or not. It’s very obviously light hearted and I doubt whether the OP thought that’s the Biden shirts we’re sending her into the pages of Tatler and Times rich list 🤦🏼‍♀️

RandomHomoSapien · 24/07/2021 08:40

@VictoriaLudorum

This is the saddest post I have ever read here.
Actually your response to this thread is the saddest post I ever seen on here. Are you always so utterly joyless Confused

Oh and look up the word ‘lighthearted’. You won’t feel so sad then.

Spudlet · 24/07/2021 08:41

Ooooh I’ve thought of another one - living where I do. I grew up in an ex-manufacturing town which was suffering economically - we were ok, although we struggled a bit financially, at times. But there was and still is quite a bit of deprivation.

I now live in an ex-council house which is certainly not posh BUT it’s an ex-council house that was built for agricultural workers. So there are open fields at the front and back as we’re just a row of houses out on the road into a lovely village. We can walk straight out of our front gate onto one lovely footpath, or out of the back onto another. DS is growing up to think that seeing hares, deer, owls, foxes, tractors and combine harvesters out of his bedroom window is perfectly normal. I would have killed for that as a kid - I’ve never enjoyed living in a town. We can walk across the fields into our lovely village with a great shop, independent coffee shop, lovely old pub and DS’s tiny school.

It doesn’t make me feel ‘posh’ as such, but I definitely feel like I did something right to have landed here Smile Although I do feel a little bit posh when I put my neoprene wellies on to walk my working gundog - hoping they survive the onslaught of the new working gundog in training, who has taken a shine to them with his pointy little puppy teeth 🤨

post did make me chuckle though 😂
