We pay a company to clean our bins once a month on bin day. I’m not usually home when they come, but I’m off work today And happened to be in the kitchen. I watched my next door neighbour wait until the cleaner left, take the house number sticker off my bin and put it on his, then swap our bin for his so he had the cleaned bin and I had a non-cleaned one.

He was back in his house before I had time to contain the dog and go outside but now DH is home, WIBU to go round and ask for my bin back??

DH says ordinary gloss paint.

EvilPea · 29/06/2021 13:22

If you'd had CCTV, this would have been gold

Well played, ours used to get regularly stolen... not by neighbours, i mean people would stop, chuck it in their van and fuck off with it.

Oldraver · 29/06/2021 13:22

@londonscalling

I don't think I would paint your house number on your bin in big letters. I'd be tempted to write it on somewhere discreet, in very small letters, with a Sharpie. That way you can catch your neighbour out if they do it again!
Always put the number in the bottom ad well
DailyMaui · 29/06/2021 13:32

"Are you sure you did not mistake the person for someone else? It's difficult to believe that a councillor would expose himself in this way. Maybe you hold a grudge against him because he's a Tory?"

Well HELLO councillor Bin Stealer. I've bin expecting you.

Thank you. I could "hear" the accent as I read those. Smile

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 29/06/2021 13:47

spray paint would do it.

Daube 'not for the take' in block capitals

fabulousathome · 29/06/2021 14:25

I used old nail varnish on mine. I used a colour I didn't really like! Most people have one of those, or one that's gone a bit sticky.

I painted the number on each side plus the top.

viques · 29/06/2021 14:25

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

Question for the room: what kind of paint do I need to use on this bin? Will any paint do the job?
I expect Farrow and Ball are working on this as we speak.

Neighbaby :a soft ochre like baby poo

Unwise Choices :a dark grey

Mariglove: a warm yellow

Heroic Endeavor : gold

SallyCinnabon · 29/06/2021 14:38

Spat my coffee out at this. Thanks, made my day with the comment

Omg the comments at the end, fantastic.

magicstar1 · 29/06/2021 15:04

I'm laughing at @OchonAgusOchonOh .... I'm in Dublin and thought oooh a bin cleaner is a great idea. I must be getting notions Grin

cabingirl · 29/06/2021 15:06

You should paint your numbers exactly under the bin stickers - it will be a nice surprise for him next time he tries to peel the stickers off!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 29/06/2021 15:07

But then people might think they are Tories 😱

a1poshpaws · 29/06/2021 15:11

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

DH is home WITH THE BIN. Victory is ours!

Apparently he made a half hearted attempt to argue that ‘wheelie bins are council property not personal property’ but apparently DH asked whether that meant he was allowed to steal our cleaned bin and he said ‘its not stealing, it’s not your bin!’ Hmm

When they were standing outside, DH was asking them to remove their bag of rubbish from the bin so he could take it back. Binstealers wife said DH was being petty and to just leave the bins how they were. DH said he’d be happy to, but she needed to pay us the £9 for the bin cleaning or come over with her marigolds and get scrubbing Grin

I love that man I do. He’s extremely pleased with himself and I’ve not seen him this cock sure for years!

Your husband is Ace. I just wish you'd had that video of the CF for the local FB group first!
Mix56 · 29/06/2021 15:18

Could you get a local Tagger to paint your bin ? it would be just the thing to wind up Councillor Bin Thief.
Your DH is a legend !
At the very least get some vibrant neon pink or green, something loud !

S0upertrooper · 29/06/2021 15:27

Get a local artist to depict a tug of war scene between Mr Jackieweavers and Tory MP ForBinSnatching, painted on the side of your (ver clean) wheelie. Worth every penny.

LizB62A · 29/06/2021 15:35

Honestly, I'd report him to the local council - cheeky git !

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2021 15:52

You definitely are!
MrsMackesy · 29/06/2021 16:06

My pleasure, @Congressdingo

Binstealer's wife said DH was being petty
As opposed to her husband, a petty thief?

My own personal choice for OP's bin would be a giant Margaret Thatcher sticker, with her mouth opening when you lift the lid. It would go perfectly with his commemorative plate.

Small talk at the next dinner/pampas grass growers party they attend: I have bin a councillor, I wheelie enjoyed it, but I have bin sacked.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 29/06/2021 16:47

I think I'd go for a campaign picture of NDNDirtyBin, pasted on, with a huge red X across it (not obliterating the features mind you!) and then highly varnished. Nice and big and clear. That would do it for me.

Love this thread. Still laughing at the thought of your face as you watched him doing it.

Booboospud · 29/06/2021 17:35

I need to know how this goes 😂😂 please update us 😂

Carpedimum · 29/06/2021 17:35

One of my favourite MN posts ever! I’m vicariously enjoying this sweet, sweet, victory over the Thatcher-hag loving Tory councillor. Bravo husbeast!

openallflowers · 29/06/2021 17:38

What a CF! Tell him to pay up or you'll post this on Facebook and name him. Bloody hell
